Mission statement: Since being founded in 1993, Addiction Research and Theory has been the leading outlet for research and theoretical contributions that view addictive behaviour as arising from psychological processes within the individual

and the social context in which the behaviour takes place as much as from the biological effects of the psychoactive substance or activity involved. This cross-disciplinary journal examines addictive behaviours from a variety of perspectives and methods of inquiry. Disciplines represented in the journal include Anthropology, Economics, Epidemiology, Medicine, Sociology, Psychology and History, but high quality contributions from other relevant areas will also be considered. The journal publishes articles on all aspects of addiction, placing particular value on contributions that explore creatively new avenues of inquiry. Submissions to Addiction Research and Theory are peer reviewed and published if they are both good of their kind and are within the journals focus.

Articles include theoretical, philosophical and political essays, research papers, state-of-the-science reviews, and descriptions of how to apply research on addictive behaviours to evidence-based clinical practice.

Mission statement: Addiction Science & Clinical Practice provides a forum for clinically relevant research and perspectives that contribute to improving the quality of care for people with unhealthy alcohol, tobacco, or other drug use and addictive behaviors across a spectrum of clinical settings. Addiction Science & Clinical Practice was previously published by NIDA and the journal's back content can be viewed here. Addiction Science & Clinical Practice accepts articles of clinical relevance related to the prevention and treatment of unhealthy alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use across the spectrum of clinical settings. Topics of interest address issues related to the following:

the spectrum of unhealthy use of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs among the range of affected persons (e.g., not limited by age, race/ethnicity, gender, or sexual orientation); the array of clinical prevention and treatment practices (from health messages, to identification and early intervention, to more extensive interventions including counseling and pharmacotherapy and other management strategies); and identification and management of medical, psychiatric, social, and other health consequences of substance use. Addiction Science & Clinical Practice is particularly interested in articles that address how to improve the quality of care for people with unhealthy substance use and related conditions as described in the (US) Institute of Medicine report, Improving the Quality of Healthcare for Mental Health and Substance Use Conditions (Washington, DC: National Academies

Press, 2006). Such articles address the quality of care and of health services. Although the journal also welcomes submissions that address these conditions in addiction speciality-treatment settings, the journal is particularly interested in including articles that address unhealthy use outside these settings, including experience with novel models of care and outcomes, and outcomes of research-practice collaborations. Although Addiction Science & Clinical Practice is generally not an outlet for basic science research, we will accept basic science research manuscripts that have clearly described potential clinical relevance and are accessible to audiences outside a narrow laboratory research field.

Mission statement: Addictive Behaviors is an international publishing research on substance abuse. The journal specifically focuses on studies related to the abuse of alcohol, drugs, and nicotine. Articles represent interdisciplinary endeavors with research in such fields as psychology, psychiatry, epidemiology, medicine, pharmacology, and neuroscience. While theoretical orientations are diverse, the emphasis of the journal is

primarily empirical. That is, sound experimental design combined with valid, reliable assessment and evaluation procedures are a requisite for acceptance. Uncontrolled clinical demonstrations and case studies are not accepted for publication. Priority is given to research that evaluates behavioural and/or pharmacological treatment or prevention interventions. In addition, studies of the functional relationships between substance use and any one of a combination of social, emotional, cognitive, environmental, and attitudinal factors are encouraged. Studies that clearly contribute to current knowledge of the etiology, prevention, and/or treatment of substance abuse are given priority. Research on the epidemiology of substance use is also published as well as a limited number of reviews.

Submission Notes: Instructions to authors are included in each issue of the journal. Manuscripts must adhere to the instructions on references, preparation of tables and figures, abstracts, and manuscripts format as described in the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (5th ed.). All manuscripts must be submitted online via the Elsevier Author Gateway page at http://www.elsubmit.com/esubmit/addbeh. research on all aspects of the actions or effects of alcohol on the nervous system or on other organ systems. Emphasis is given to studies into the causes and consequences of alcohol abuse and alcoholism, and biomedical

aspects of diagnosis, etiology, treatment or prevention of alcohol-related health effects. Intended for both research scientists and practicing clinicians, the journal publishes original research on the neurobiological, neurobehavioral,

and pathophysiological processes associated with alcohol drinking, alcohol abuse, alcohol-seeking behavior, tolerance, dependence, withdrawal, protracted abstinence, and relapse. In addition, the journal reports studies on

the effects alcohol on brain mechanisms of neuroplasticity over the life span, biological factors associated with

adolescent alcohol abuse, pharmacotherapeutic strategies in the treatment of alcoholism, biological and biochemical markers of alcohol abuse and alcoholism, pathological effects of uncontrolled drinking, biomedical

and molecular factors in the effects on liver, immune system, and other organ systems, and biomedical aspects of

fetal alcohol spectrum disorder including mechanisms of damage, diagnosis and early detection, treatment, and prevention. Articles are published from all levels of biomedical inquiry, including the following: molecular and

cellular studies of alcohol's actions in vitro and in vivo; animal model studies of genetic, pharmacological, behavioral, developmental or pathophysiological aspects of alcohol; human studies of genetic, behavioral,

cognitive, neuroimaging, or pathological aspects of alcohol drinking; clinical studies of diagnosis (including dual diagnosis), treatment, prevention, and epidemiology

Submission Notes: Alcohol subscribes to the tenets of The Farmington Consensus. Submission of a paper to the journal will be taken

as evidence that the authors have complied with the tenets set forth in the Consensus. All submitted material will be subject to peer review. Alcohol considers three types of manuscripts for publication: - Original research articles

are full-length reports of the authors' original research addressing topics consistent with the Aims and Scope of the journal. Submissions outside the scope of the journal, or incomplete or fragmentary submissions, will not be

considered. - Rapid communications are original, high-quality manuscripts that describe new data of high impact and major importance to the field. These contributions are typically short (e.g., 4 journal pages), and will be peer-

reviewed by at least one expert in the field of the research and an Editor, and will be either accepted with minimal or no revisions or rejected. Publication of accepted rapid communications will be expedited. - Invited review

articles will be considered for publication, upon invitation from the Editor-in-Chief, as full-length papers or mini-

reviews. These contributions will be peer-reviewed. Contact the Editor-in-Chief concerning the suitability of a topic for an invited review.

Editors: Nancy K. Mello (formerly Warren K. Bickel)

Assistant/Regional Editors:

Mission statement: Experimental and Clinical Psychopharmacology publishes advances in translational and interdisciplinary research on psychopharmacology and drug abuse. The scope of research in these areas continues to expand, and to

benefit from collaborations across a broad range of disciplines, including behavioral science, brain imaging, genetics, neuroendocrinology, neuroscience and pharmacology. One goal of the journal is to encourage increased

attention to biologic factors that may influence both the pharmacodynamic and pharmacokinetic effects of drugs. Recent research has shown the importance of examining the effects of gender and menstrual/estrous cycle phase http://www.parint.org/database.cfm Page 31 of 82 PARINT 13-04-09 12:12 PM

Recent research has shown the importance of examining the effects of gender and menstrual/estrous cycle phase on the effects of abused drugs, as well as responses to medications for the treatment of drug abuse and the

alleviation of pain. The journal publishes original reports on the development and evaluation of new pharmacotherapies, the influence of genetics and hormones on responses to abused drugs and treatment

medications, the pharmacological management of pain, and brain imaging studies of the neural correlates of drug effects. The journal will focus on clinical laboratory studies and controlled clinical medication trials as well as basic preclinical experiments on psychopharmacology and drug abuse. The journal also will include comprehensive and

integrative reviews of advances in research on psychopharmacology. These reviews should provide a broad perspective on a particular area of research or trace the development of critical concepts and experimental

approaches. Each year, the journal will recognize young investigators who are recipients of the Young Psychopharmacologist Award or the Best Dissertation Award, as well as mid-career and senior scientists who receive the Brady-Schuster Award from APA Division 28, Psychopharmacology and Substance Abuse. Awardees

will be invited to submit a review paper based on their award-winning research. The journal may occasionally

publish innovations in psychopharmacology that report a novel method, measure or result. Commentary on the nature and implications of the innovation may be invited. The overall goal is to provide a forum for innovative

clinical and preclinical research that advances our understanding of the behavioral and biological determinants of the effects of drugs.

JSAT is directed toward treatment practitioners from all disciplines (medicine, nursing,

Mission statement: Tobacco Control aims to study: 1) the nature and consequences of tobacco use worldwide; 2) the effect of tobacco use on health, the economy, the environment and society; 3) the efforts of the health community and health advocates to prevent and control tobacco use; and 4) the activities of the tobacco industry and its allies to promote tobacco use. Tobacco Controlprovides a forum for research, analysis, commentary, and debate on policies, programs, and strategies that are likely to further the objectives of a comprehensive tobacco control policy. In http://www.parint.org/database.cfm Page 77 of 82 PARINT 13-04-09 12:12 PM

papers submitted for review, the introduction should indicate why the research reported or issues discussed are

important in terms of controlling tobacco use, and the discussion section should include an analysis of how the research reported contributes to tobacco control objectives. Papers firmly anchored to a strategic policy and

programme context are more likely to be accepted for publication. The journal seeks to reach an international readership. Authors should consider whether their submission addresses issues or themes likely to be of interest to researchers working in other nations. Overly parochial issues, which contain few lessons for tobacco control policy outside a paper's local context, are unlikely to be given high priority.

Submission Notes: Full instructions are available online at http://tobaccocontrol.bmj.com/ifora. Articles must be submitted electronically http://submit-tc.bmj.com. Authors retain copyright but are required to grant Tobacco Control an exclusive licence to publish. The BMJ follows guidelines on editorial independence produced by the World

The articles that are published include original research articles, clinical experiences, the results of applications of new treatments (e.g., psychotherapy or social rehabilitation), scientific reviews, information about meetings and congresses, discussions about specific problems, and official documents.
