As the day went on the Oct. 19-20 Michelob Cup, WRSC wind slowly increased to 7 to 9 knots. They include the Star in 1978 and 1979; 5.5 Metre in 1967, 1973 and 1983; International 50 Foot World Cup in 1989; Maxi in 1991 and the National E Scows in 1965, 1969, 1978, 1979 and 1983. -

International Soling Class 2021 European Championship Notice of Race
INTERNATIONAL SOLING CLASS 2021 EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP NOTICE OF RACE THE SOLING EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP 2021 will take place during the Semana Internacional de Vela Ciudad de Santander, Real Club Marítimo de Santander, Puertochico, Cantabria, Spain. From 16 to 19, June 2021 ORGANISING AUTHORITY The organising authority is the International Soling Class (ISA) in conjunction with the Real Club Maritimo Santander (RCMS) by delegation of Real Federación Española de Vela 1 RULES 1.1 The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing. 1.2 The prescriptions of the Spanish National Authority (RFEV) will not apply 1.3 The ISA Championship Rules will apply. 1.4 The following racing rules will be changed: 28.1, 31, 32, 31, 35, 42.3(c), 44.1, 60.1(a), 61.3, 62.2, 63.7, 66, A4, A11 and Race Signals AP and S. The changes will appear in full in the Sailing Instructions. 1.5 [NP][DP] COVID-19 Operational Protocol for the return to the official national, non-professional competitions (2020-2021 Season), available on the regatta web site. 1.6 Amendments to any of the rules applying to the regatta must be approved and signed by the ISA Liaison Officer appointed for the event. 1.7 In all rules governing this regatta: 1.7.1[NP] denotes that a breach of this rule will not be grounds for a protest by a boat. This changes RRS 60.1(a) 1.7.2 [SP] denotes a rule for which a standard penalty may be applied by the race committee or Technical Committee without a hearing or a discretionary penalty applied by the International Jury with a hearing. -

McCarthy, Commodore www.lmsrf.org LMSRF's web page for the past ten years was the organization's second generation web site and had grown very long in the tooth. Chuck Goes, whom some of you know from Belmont Yacht Club or from his Race Committee work, volunteered to help LMSRF build a new web site. Chuck’s day job is web hosting and design, along with computer consulting, at his company, Digital Interplay (contact Chuck at [email protected] or at 773.743.9843 if you are in need of help for your own business). We chose the platform of Joomla!, as this web site software allows our volunteers to make changes anywhere, anytime, without needing anything more than an internet connection. Users don’t need any special software to make updates and changes. The goals of the new web site are simple, to make it easier to navigate (check), make it easier to maintain by assigning committee chairs the pages they are responsible for maintaining (check, check), add a bit of fun with links to Maritime Museums and Lighthouses (check), but most importantly to make it easier for you to get what you need (big check). Examples of this last one are that you will find applications for Grants-In-Aid and the Hall of Fame on the web site, along with the requirements of both programs. With over 60 pages of information, we hope you find it informative, helpful and will help your club and/or foster your own sailing. -

Is it time to challenge the Status Quo? Is it time to challenge the Status Quo? By Hans Fogh It was with a lot of enthusiasm and excitement that I recently took part in the Soling North Americans at Etobicoke Yacht Club in Toronto. We had a great used Abbott boat which I purchased with my crew Roger Cheer and, together with my old friend John Kerr, we finished second to Bill and Joanne Abbott and Brad Boston. It was wonderful to see so many old friends, Stu Walker, Peter Hall and Phil Kerrigan, Charlie Camps, Matt Abbott and Bruce Clifford to name a few. I want to add too, that this regatta was well run, both on the water and shore activities were very well done and organized and the banquet was frankly one of the best ones we have ever experienced. After sailing in the Etchells 22 for several years it was great to be back in the Soling. Being a bit smaller than the Etchells, the Soling feels like a dingy and when Roger and John would move around I could feel it. The Soling turns faster, the sails are smaller and the self tacker makes it easier and, honestly, you don’t need a big crew. The Etchells is a Soling with training wheels; its size and under the waterline profile with its skeg makes it tough to maneuver and get up to speed. And getting ready to rig you need all sorts of help to get the mast through the deck and set up, and your crew, well they better be north for 285 Kg to be competitive. -
