Por Jean-Michel MAES* RESUMEN Este catálogo presenta las 9 especies de Coleoptera Eucinetoidea (1 Eucinetidae, 1 Clambidae, 7 Scirtidae) y las 9 especies de Dascilloidea (3 Dascillidae, 6 Rhipiceridae) reportadas de Nicaragua. ABSTRACT This catalogue presents the 9 species of Coleoptera Eucinetoidea (1 Eucinetidae, 1 Clambidae, 7 Scirtidae) and the 9 species of Dascilloidea (3 Dascillidae, 6 Rhipiceridae) presently known from Nicaragua. file:///C|/My%20Documents/REVISTA/REV%2025/25%20Eucinetoidea.htm (1 of 5) [10/11/2002 05:50:39 p.m.] Rev * Museo Entomológico, A.P. 527, León, Nicaragua.

Received: 9 October 2020; Accepted: 28 October 2020; Published: 30 October 2020 Simple Summary: Several wood-associated insects are inadvertently introduced every year within wood-packaging materials used in international trade. These insects can cause impressive economic and ecological damage in the invaded environment. Thus, several countries use traps baited with pheromones and plant volatiles at ports of entry and surrounding natural areas to intercept incoming exotic species soon after their arrival and thereby reduce the likelihood of their establishment. In this study, we investigated the performance of eight trap colors in attracting jewel beetles and bark and ambrosia beetles to test if the trap colors currently used in survey programs worldwide are the most efficient for trapping these potential forest pests. In addition, we tested whether trap colors can be exploited to minimize inadvertent removal of their natural enemies.

  • GALLARDO, P.: Relationship Between Insect Damage and Chlorophyll Content in Mediterranean Oak Species
Cárdenas – Gallardo: Relationship between insect damage and chlorophyll content in Mediterranean oak species - 477 - RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN INSECT DAMAGE AND CHLOROPHYLL CONTENT IN MEDITERRANEAN OAK SPECIES CÁRDENAS, A. M.* ‒ GALLARDO, P. Dpto. de Zoología, Edificio Darwin, Campus Rabanales, E-14071, University of Córdoba, Córdoba, Spain (tel: +34 957 218604) *Corresponding author e-mail: [email protected] (Received 10th Jun 2016; accepted 23rd Jul 2016) Abstract. Considering that the damage caused by phytophagous insects can alter the chlorophyll content of plants, we established the hypothesis that variations in chlorophyll concentration could be applied to assess stress caused by these kind of harmful agents. In this paper, relationship between insect damage and the chlorophyll content of sclerophyllous oak species (Quercus suber and Q. ilex) is investigated. The survey was carried out in Hornachuelos Natural Park (southern Iberian Peninsula). For each plant species, a comparative study of chlorophyll concentration on healthy leaves was performed among a control group of harmless trees and other groups affected by one of the following damaging insects: woodborers, chewing and gall-formers. Results relative to Q. ilex indicated that only damage by gall-formers had a significant effect on average chlorophyll content of healthy leaves. As regard Q. suber, differences in chlorophyll content were only significant when injuries were caused by the woodborer Coraebus florentinus. In conclusion, insect damage could influence the chlorophyll content of the holm and cork oaks, but the effect varies depending on the plant species and the type of harmful agent. Keywords: environmental assessment, oak forests, Quercus ilex, Quercus suber, photosynthesis Introduction Several herbivorous insects are associated with Quercus species (Romanyk and Cadahía, 1992) and, depending on the way of affecting the plant, can be classified as woodborers, carpophagous and folivorous (chewing insects and galls-formers).

  • Inventory and Review of Quantitative Models for Spread of Plant Pests for Use in Pest Risk Assessment for the EU Territory1
EFSA supporting publication 2015:EN-795 EXTERNAL SCIENTIFIC REPORT Inventory and review of quantitative models for spread of plant pests for use in pest risk assessment for the EU territory1 NERC Centre for Ecology and Hydrology 2 Maclean Building, Benson Lane, Crowmarsh Gifford, Wallingford, OX10 8BB, UK ABSTRACT This report considers the prospects for increasing the use of quantitative models for plant pest spread and dispersal in EFSA Plant Health risk assessments. The agreed major aims were to provide an overview of current modelling approaches and their strengths and weaknesses for risk assessment, and to develop and test a system for risk assessors to select appropriate models for application. First, we conducted an extensive literature review, based on protocols developed for systematic reviews. The review located 468 models for plant pest spread and dispersal and these were entered into a searchable and secure Electronic Model Inventory database. A cluster analysis on how these models were formulated allowed us to identify eight distinct major modelling strategies that were differentiated by the types of pests they were used for and the ways in which they were parameterised and analysed. These strategies varied in their strengths and weaknesses, meaning that no single approach was the most useful for all elements of risk assessment. Therefore we developed a Decision Support Scheme (DSS) to guide model selection. The DSS identifies the most appropriate strategies by weighing up the goals of risk assessment and constraints imposed by lack of data or expertise. Searching and filtering the Electronic Model Inventory then allows the assessor to locate specific models within those strategies that can be applied.

All three are distinguished from their congeners in new or modified keys and illustrated with color photographs of the respective dorsal habitus and male genitalia. Key words: Coleoptera, Buprestidae, Coraebosoma, Lumawigia, Philippscelus, new species, Philippines, Leyte, keys Introduction This paper, our first collaborative work on the Philippine Coraebini Bedel, 1921 (Coleoptera: Buprestidae: Agrilinae), represents the eighth contribution to the modern understanding of that regional fauna (Bellamy 1990a, 1990b, 1991a, 1991b, 1998, 2005; Ohmomo 2002). New taxa from the genera Coraebosoma Obenberger, 1923, Lumawigia Bellamy, 2005 and Philippscelus Bellamy, 2005 are available for description now, while other new Philippine species of Coraebini are accumulating for future descriptive papers. Although listed alphabetically above, these three genera will be discussed in a systematic sequence (see Kubáň, et al., 2001) below.

  • New Records of Buprestidae (Coleoptera) from Israel with Description of a New Species
ISRAEL JOURNAL OF ENTOMOLOGY, Vol. 34, 2004, pp. 109-152 New records of Buprestidae (Coleoptera) from Israel with description of a new species MARK VOLKOVITSH Zoological Institute, Russian Academy of Sciences, 199034 St. Petersburg, Russia ABSTRACT In two expeditions to Israel (in 1994 and 1996), 123 species of Buprestidae (Coleoptera), including one with two subspecies, were collected. Data col- lected, general distribution, and known larval host plants are given for each species. Fifteen Buprestidae species, and new hosts for four species, are recorded from Israel for the first time, including three new host associations for species that already had other known hosts. Xantheremia (Xantheremia) freidbergi is described as a new species. Acmaeodera (Palaeotethya) macchabaea Abeille de Perrin is resurrected from synonymy with A. rubro- maculata sensu Volkovitsh 1986, in part, and two new synonyms, A. pharsaea Obenbberger and A. houskai Obenberger, are established for this species. Acmaeoderella sefrensis Pic is a new status for Acmaeodera rufo- marginata var. sefrensis Pic, and two new synonyms are established for it: A. rufomarginata var. stramineipennis Chobaut and A. virgulata var. lucasi Théry. Acmaeodera miribella Obenberger is a new subspecies of Acmaeo- derella elegans (Harold) n. comb., and Acmaeodera eucera Obenberger is its synonym. Acmaeoderella adspersula arabica Cobos is elevated to species status. Lectotypes are designated for A. rufomarginata var. sefrensis, A. rufomarginata var. stramineipennis, and A. virgulata var. lucasi. INTRODUCTION The study of buprestid fauna of Israel has been relatively poor. Bodenheimer (1937) listed 84 species. There are only a few publications on Israeli buprestids in the 20th century that either summarize data collected (Obenberger, 1946; Niehuis, 1996) or are devoted to buprestid fauna of certain localities (Chikatunov et al., 1999; Volkovitsh et al., 2000).
