Words from the dean. The Nextstep career fair is a unique opportunity for students and potential employers to meet and get to know each other. We know that networks are key to finding good jobs, so I really encourage students to seize this opportunity. I am impressed by the professional organization by the Nextstep team, and by the engagement of local as well as non-local companies. The fact that employers put time and efforts into attending and actively par- ticipating in Nextstep tells me that they also find it useful.

Experiences from previous years show that the matchmaking between students and companies works well and that students make their first contact with future employers at Nextstep’s career fair. One of the school’s most important measure of success is the career trajectories of our students. It is therefore very valuable with such an event that can support the students getting a good start in their efforts of building their professional network. Nextstep is also a good example of entirely stu- dent-led projects fulfilling real purposes, which we put a lot of effort into promoting at the school.

My best advice for students attending the fair would be to go there with an open mind, to be yourself and believe in your abilities. Although you may feel nervous talking with your dream employ- er, you should not forget that he or she has come to this fair just to find someone like you.

MEET THE PROJECT MANAGERS Once again, we would like to welcome you to Nextstep. We hope that you are as ready as we are for the annual career fair and banquet. So, who are we? We are Paulina and Theodor, project managers for Nextstep’18 and both second-year students in the International Management program. We met for the first time last year when we were both working for Nextstep together in the compa- ny coordinator team. If you are unsure what Nextstep is about, it’s the annual career fair at Jönköping University arranged by students since 1994. Whereas local, national, and international companies exhibit during the day, with the purpose to present their business and attract the most talented students at the school. We find it extremely valuable for the students since we create a more natural environment to meet the com- panies in. Thanks to Nextstep, the students have the possibility to meet and interact with approximately 60 companies in just a couple of hours instead of browsing for information and answers to your questions online. In the past years, Nextstep has mainly focused on stu- dents from the International Business School. However, this year we have decided to put extra effort in attract- ing companies that are interested in students for the other schools as well such as School of Engineering and School of Communication here in Jönköping. Regarding our previous experience, we have listened to the opin- ions among students to find out what makes a company attractive to them. The most common answer is to have the possibility to grow within the company. Being aware of this, we hope to attract the most appropriate type of companies for the students this year. Having that said, we hope that you will enjoy this year’s fair and all the hard work put in by the entire team to ensure you the best experience possible.
