INTRODUCTION TO THE HOLY WEEK

Today begins the most holy week of the Christian year. The church all over the world in silence and deep prayer begins the Journey to Jerusalem together with Jesus. The foremost character of this week is deep contemplation and silence I would say THE SACRED SILENCE. Many times this week we kneel down, bow and even prostrate in silence to understand the mysteries of the Holy Week. I earnestly request all of you to enter in to these mysteries with deep prayer, silence and contemplation. Please do make an extra effort to join together to worship as a parish family. I invite you all to join to worship on Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter vigil.

PALM SUNDAY

We will celebrate the Palm Sunday with blessings of the palm and a small procession in to the church, which reminds us of Jesus solemn entry in to Jerusalem temple to begin his passion. The narration of the passion of Jesus will call us to focus our attention to him alone this week. Let us make our journey with Jesus carrying our own pains, disappointments and deaths with us to the . For some, the pain is personal. For others, a loved one may be suffer- ing-even dying. For others, the year has brought personal and profes- sional disappointments. Some may have experienced all sorts of deaths-from the loss of a loved one to the death of a marriage or dream. Carry all that to the Lord. It’s your passion.

HOLY THURSDAY

In this holy day we celebrate three important gifts from Jesus. They are the commandment of love and service, the and gift of priesthood. Today’s mass is also called the Mass of the Lords supper. Why is this mass different from every other mass this week? The tabernacle is empty; the oils brought from the chrism mass at the cathedral will be presented; the washing of the feet; there is a procession of the Blessed Sacrament and the stripping of the altar to remind us of the passion. Please do find some time to spend in silent prayer in front of the Eucha- ristic Lord. The alter of reposition is a reminder of Gethsemane where Jesus called his disciples to pray with him.

April 9, 2017

GOOD FRIDAY

According to the church’s ancient tradition, the sacraments are not celebrated today or tomorrow. The altar is kept bare, without cloths, candles and flowers or cross. Today’s liturgy consists of three parts: passion readings, veneration of the cross and the communion service. We continue our Triduum, journey. Yesterday’s liturgy concluded in si- lence and today we pick up where we left off in silence. Today’s cele- bration proclaims the passion and the victory. We do not venerate solely the cross itself, but also what it means to us.

HOLY SATURDAY

On Holy Saturday the church waits at the Lord’s Tomb, medi- tating on his suffering and death. The Altar is left bare, the sac- rifice of the Mass is not celebrated. Only after the solemn vigil during the night, held in anticipation of the resurrection, does the Easter celebration begin, with a spirit of joy that overflows in to the following period of fifty days.

EASTER VIGIL

This vigil is called the mother of all vigils. The great Easter vigil has four parts: the service of light, liturgy of the word, liturgy of baptism and the liturgy of the Eucharist. This celebration overflowing with word, symbol and ceremony.

I hope and pray that each and every one of us will experience a spiritual renewal and joy in this most holy time of the year. I assure you all my love and prayers in this Holy Week in every Easter Mass.

Happy Easter!

Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” Matthew 19:14 Children’s Liturgy of the Word takes place during the 10:15 a.m. Sunday Mass. This program is designed for chil- dren ages three through eight (third grade). Children’s Liturgy of the Word brings the Gospel to the children at their level of understanding. Through appropriately adapted Scripture texts, music, prayer, and activities that reinforce the Gospel message, the children have an opportunity to celebrate their faith in a way that is joyful and relevant to their own young lives. The children are escorted out of mass by the program catechists after the Opening Prayer and return to mass during the Preparation of Gifts. O divine Jesus, Incarnate Son of God, for our salvation you consented to be born in a stable, to spend your whole life amid poverty, trials, and misery, and to die surrounded by sufferings on the Cross.

At the hour of my death, please tell your Father, Father, forgive them.

Tell your Mother, Behold your child. Tell my soul, This day you shall be with me in paradise.

My God, my God do not forsake me in that hour.

I thirst, yes, my soul thirsts for you who are the fountain of living waters.

My life passes away like a shadow; in a short while everything will be accomplished.

Therefore, my adored Saviour, from this moment and for all eternity, into your hands I commend my spirit.

Lord Jesus, receive my soul.

Prayer of Mercy

Most dear Jesus, filled with sorrow during the agony in the garden, covered with a sweat of blood while praying, have mercy on us, O Lord.

Most dear Jesus, delivered into the hands of the wicked by a kiss, bound like a robber, and aban- doned by your disciples, have mercy on us, O Lord.

Most dear Jesus, condemned to death by an unjust Council, taken as an evildoer before Pilate, and ridiculed by the wicked Herod, have mercy on us, O Lord.

Most dear Jesus, publicly shorn of your garments, and most cruelly scourged at the pillar, have mercy on us, O Lord.

Most dear Jesus, crowned with thorns, beaten and blindfolded, clothed in rich purple, and mocked, have mercy on us, O Lord.

Most dear Jesus, likened to the infamous Barabbas, rejected by your people, and unjustly sentenced to death, have mercy on us, O Lord.

Most dear Jesus, burdened with the weight of the Cross and led to the place of execution like a lamb to the slaughter, have mercy on us, O Lord.

Most dear Jesus, reckoned with the wicked, blasphemed, and derided, and given gall to drink to miti- gate your pain, have mercy on us, O Lord. St. Anthony of Padua, High Ridge, MO

Prayer of Mercy (continued)

Most dear Jesus, dying on the Cross in the presence of Mary, pierced with a lance that drew blood and water from your side, have mercy on us, O Lord.

Most dear Jesus, taken down and placed in the arms of your Sorrowful Mother, have mercy on us, O Lord.

Most dear Jesus, horribly bruised and marked with five wounds, anointed for burial and placed in a tomb, have mercy on us, O Lord.

My Jesus, I thank you for dying on the Cross for my sins. Have mercy on us, O Lord.

Amen.

Prayer Before a Look down upon me, good and gentle Jesus while before Your face I humbly kneel and, With burning soul, pray and beseech You to fix deep in my heart lively sentiments Of faith, hope, and charity; true contrition for my sins, and a firm purpose of amend- ment.

While I contemplate, with great love and tender pity, Your five most precious wounds, Pondering over them within me and calling to mind the words which David, your prophet, said to You, my Jesus;

“They have pierced My hands and My feet, they have numbered all My bones.”

Amen.

Holy Thursday Adoration
