IIL Conditions & Fees Conditions & Fees 2020/2021 1 Admissions 1.1 An enrolment form completed and signed by both parents, or the holder of parental authority, must be sent to the Director. If the applicant is over the age of 18 the form must also be signed by the applicant him/herself. 1.2 By signing the enrolment form, the parents or holder of parental authority, and the pupil over the age of 18, accept and agree unconditionally to the terms of enrolment, rules and regulations, and the present Conditions & Fees, including all appendages, in particular those relative to Privacy Policy and Data Protection published on the official school website (www.iil.ch/en/document-en/). The following papers must be submitted with all applications: • a recent photograph (passport format) • a copy of the birth certificate • a copy of the passport or identity card • an extract of the court order relative to parental authority, where relevant • school reports (previous and current years) • an exeat issued by the last school attended (French and AGEP schools only) 1.3 After the application has been reviewed by the Director, parents will be informed of the acceptance or refusal of their child’s admission. 1.4 A CHF 1 000.– non-reimbursable fee is required to confirm enrolment. Should an application be refused, the fee will be reimbursed. However, if the enrolment is cancelled or the pupil is not present on the first day of class, no reimbursement will be granted. 1.5 An advance payment of CHF 2 000.– for fees and other costs is due at least four months before the arrival of a pupil. Should payment not be received, the child will be placed on a waiting list. 1.6 20% of the yearly fee will be due on cancellation of enrolment after 15th June, if this occurs before the first day of the school year. The advance payment of CHF 2 000.– deducted. Cancellations must be addressed to the Director in writing. Institut International de Lancy – Conditions & Fees – 2020/2021 2 2 Re-enrolment 2.1 Pupils must be re-enrolled for each School year. A re-enrolment form must be filled in online and digitally signed by the holder(s) of parental authority, and by pupils over the age of 18, by 17th February 2020 (N.B. Conditions and Fees/Article 3. Enrolment on a yearly basis). 2.2 The re-enrolment fee of CHF 900.– is due by 4th March 2020. Confirmation of re-enrolment will only be final once the School has received the re-enrolment form digitally signed by the holder(s) of parental authority, together with the re- enrolment fee. Children will not be guaranteed a place if these conditions are not fulfilled within the deadlines. The above amount will be deducted from fees and other costs for the first term of the next academic year. 2.3 In the event of cancellation of re-enrolment after 4th March 2020, no reimbursement of the fee will be granted. Cancellation after 15th June but before the first day of the academic year, will entail payment of 20% of the yearly fee. The re-enrolment fee will be deducted from this amount. Cancellations must be addressed to the Director in writing. 2.4 The School reserves the right to refuse a request for re-enrolment. Notification of refusal will be sent to parents, the holder of parental authority and pupils over the age of 18, within 30 days after the date of the e-signature, the re-enrolment fee will be reimbursed. 3 Enrolment on a yearly basis 3.1 Enrolment or re-enrolment is for one academic year (26th August 2020 to 25th June 2021). 3.2 By signing the enrolment or re-enrolment form, the signatory(ies) agrees to pay the tuition fees for the first or current term. 3.3 Cancellation of enrolment or re-enrolment on or after the first day of the academic year will entail payment of school fees for the current term. 3.4 In the event of an extended absence, no reduction of fees will be granted. 3.5 Should a pupil leave the school during the year due to relocation, or should he/she be expelled, the total fees for the current term are due. Institut International de Lancy – Conditions & Fees – 2020/2021 3 4 Enrolment during the school year 4.1 For pupils arriving during the School year, the enrolment fee as well as tuition fees for the full current term, are due. Equally, tuition fees for the remaining term(s) of the School year are due. However, for pupils arriving during the second half of a term, 50% of the tuition fees for the current term are due. 4.2 If a pupil does not begin school on the foreseen date, fees are due for the term within which the date of entry falls. 5 Terms As regards billing, the academic year is divided into three terms. • 1st term Beginning of term in September to end of Christmas break • 2nd term Beginning of term in January to end of Easter break • 3rd term Beginning of term after Easter break to end of the School Year 6 Calendar and timetable 6.1 The 2020/2021 academic calendar listing school holiday periods and occasional holidays is published on the official website (www.iil.ch/en/calendar-en/). The calendar for 2021/2022 will be available from the end of December 2020. 6.2 Pupils are required to respect the dates of holidays and keep to their daily timetable as published on ENT. Individual timetables may be subject to change during the year. Institut International de Lancy – Conditions & Fees – 2020/2021 4 7 Tuition fees 7.1 Annual tuition fees are due during the first month of each term. 7.2 Tuition fees include four and a half days tuition, with the exception of “mornings only” for French section Maternelle children (5 mornings), IB/Lycée students (5 days). 7.3 Parents or the holder of parental authority who have more than one child in the School and who do not receive any educational grant from their employer are entitled to a 25 % discount on fees for a third child, and 50% for a fourth, provided all children are of the same family and attend the School at the same time (discount applicable on the lowest fee). 7.4 The following costs are not included in tuition fees: I Registration fees: CHF 1 000.–. II Books, stationery and digital resources* (compulsory advance payment: IIL START & Primary CHF 250.– / Secondary CHF 350.–). III Language lessons other than those included in the official curricula are billed on a pro rata basis depending on the number of participants. IV Class excursions. V Sports excursions*. VI Materials for Cinema-audiovisual and Art options (French Section), Art and Film (IB). VII Enrolment fees for examinations (e.g. Diplôme National du Brevet, French Baccalaureate, Checkpoint, IGCSE, International Baccalaureate). VIII Enrolment fees for language examinations (Trinity, YLE, IELTS, DELF PRIM, etc.), special assessments and exams (e.g. psychometric tests, entrance examinations for other schools, universities, etc.) and related costs (such as invigilation, dispatch of papers, etc.). Certain examinations or tests may be made compulsory by IIL and will be billed directly. IX Costs relating to special, individualised support for examinations. X Careers counselling, UCAS, university entrance fees. XI Translation of IIL reports from/to English or French. Service subject to availability of the competent staff and to the deadline required. The translation is provided for information purposes only and on no account replaces the original document. The fee is determined according to the quantity of text to be translated. XII A deposit of CHF 200.–, included on the bill for the first term, to cover any damages caused by students to equipment allocated by the school. The deposit will be refunded at the end of the academic year provided no damages have been incurred. * VAT 2.5 % or 7.7 % not included. Abstract With the emerging international competition for highly-skilled migrants, the determinants of their choice of residential location are of increasing importance. Besides job opportunities and the subjective evaluation of a location, two other factors determine the expected net return from migration: taxes and network effects. Yet, empirical research on the effects of these two factors and their interaction on highly-skilled migration is lacking. For several reasons, Switzerland provides a particularly interesting country study. Tax rates are primarily determined at the local level in Switzerland and thus enough variation exists in order to analyse their influence on migration. Furthermore, in contrast to other European countries, Switzerland has pursued a fairly liberal immigration policy and maintains a unique permit system, which became increasingly skills-focused: more than 35 per cent of all persons with a university degree are immigrants.
