So much to learn! Have you checked out our list of classes? We have quite the variety: , crochet, quilt making, or garment . Great beginning classes to get you going: Crochet basics; Adjustable apron; Quick & easy lap quilt. Some classes are technique classes: Triangles make a garden; Hand embroidery on denim or on T-shirts. While other classes are project classes: Bees in a log quilt; Wiksten shift dress/top; Check out the stars quilt. And sometimes you just need a little help: Sewing help with Mel, Get to know your ; UFO with Pattie Macy. (Knitting help will return in April and knitting classes will return in May.) But we do more than classes in our classrooms… We have several Free Sew days each month. This offers the opportunity to work on your sewing projects while getting in some much needed socialization. For now, only 6 participants are allowed each day so it’s a very comfortable environment. (Preregistration is required.) We have a fridge and microwave available if you want to bring lunch, but encourage you to visit one of our great downtown eateries. The first Thursday evening of each month we host Free Slow ...this is for hand stitching...no machines allowed. Whether you applique, embroider, knit, or crochet, this is a great way act like you’re working on a project and get in some socializing. Preregistration is suggested but not required. The second and fourth Mondays are reserved for our Make A Difference (MAD) Monday community service projects. We provide the fabric and you sew the quilts. Currently we’re not sewing in the shop but are prepping quilt kits for you to sew at home. Volunteers welcome! We also provide a workspace for the Social Justice Sewing Academy. Founded in 2017, the Social Justice Sewing Academy (SJSA) is a youth education program that bridges artistic expression with activism to advocate for social justice. Through a series of hands-on workshops in schools, prisons and community centers across the country, SJSA empowers youth to use art as a vehicle for personal transformation and community cohesion and become agents of social change. Our classroom is used for volunteers to assemble the blocks created during these workshops into quilts and banners. Check our online calendar for the next SJSA community quilt building workshop. SJSA is also the recipient of our Cloth Carousel Gives Back donation for February. 1% of all product sales during the month will be donated to SJSA.
