The proposed TGP is located approximately 330 km east north-east of Kalgoorlie, and 15 km west of the Plumridge Lakes Nature Reserve, on the western edge of the Great Victoria Desert (GVD) biogeographic region of Western Australia. -

Background Bellevue Gold Ltd (Bellevue Gold) is currently undertaking an exploration drilling program within mining tenement M3625 for the Bellevue Gold Project (the Project). The Project is located in the north-eastern Goldfields; approximately 40 km north of the township of Leinster in the Shire of Leonora. The Project is situated on and surrounded by pastoral lands and is located on Yakabindie cattle station. RPS was commissioned by Bellevue Gold to undertake a detailed flora and vegetation assessment over M3625 and part of M3624 to encompass the area where exploration drilling is currently underway and including the potential mining and associated infrastructure footprint (the proposed development area). The survey area, the proposed development area and the PoW 79431 area are shown in Figure A. RPS understands that the Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety (DMIRS) and the Department of Biodiversity Conservation and Attractions (DBCA) have requested additional information regarding the natural values of the PoW area, where in-fill drilling is proposed, in order to adequately assess the PoW application. -

DRAFT 25/10/90; plant list updated Oct. 1992; notes added June 2021. PRELIMINARY REPORT ON THE CONSERVATION VALUES OF OPEN COUNTRY PADDOCK, BOOLARDY STATION Allan H. Burbidge and J.K. Rolfe INTRODUCTION Boolardy Station is situated about 150 km north of Yalgoo and 140 km west-north-west of Cue, in the Shire of Murchison, Western Australia. Open Country Paddock (about 16 000 ha) is in the south-east corner of the station, at 27o05'S, 116o50'E. The most prominent named feature is Coolamooka Hill, near the eastern boundary of the paddock. There are no conservation reserves in this region, although there are some small reserves set aside for various other purposes. Previous biological data for the station consist of broad scale vegetation mapping and land system mapping. Beard (1976) mapped the entire Murchison region at 1: 1 000 000. The Open Country Paddock area was mapped as supporting mulga woodlands and shrublands. More detailed mapping of land system units for rangeland assessment purposes has been carried out more recently at a scale of 1: 40 000 (Payne and Curry in prep.). Seven land systems were identified in open Country Paddock (Fig. 1). Apart from these studies, no detailed biological survey work appears to have been done in the area. Open Country Paddock has been only lightly grazed by domestic stock because of the presence of Kite-leaf Poison (Gastrolobium laytonii) and a lack of fresh water. Botanical name Acacia eremaea C.R.P.Andrews, J. W. Austral. Nat. Hist. Soc. 1: 40 (1904) The botanical name is derived from the Greek eremaios (which, according to Sharr 1996 is a poetic form of eremos, desert) and alludes to the arid environment where this species grows. Common name Southern Snakewood. Characteristic features Small trees with rather twisted, gnarled trunks and branches and a dense crown. Phyllodes large, narrowly elliptic to elliptic-lanceolate, gradually tapered to an acuminate apex, sub-rigid, glaucous, obscurely multi-nerved (3 nerves more evident than the rest); pulvinus well-developed. Heads globular, many-flowered. Flowers 4- merous. Seeds large; aril poorly developed. Saline habitat. Description Habit. Spreading tall shrubs or small trees 2-5 m tall, with characteristically gnarled, twisted trunks and main branches and a dense crown 3-6 m wide which, on oldest trees, is confined to the upper 30% of the plants, young plants are rounded shrubs with the foliage extending to ground level. Bark. Grey and fibrous. Branchlets. Glabrous or tips sparsely appressed-hairy. Phyllodes. Narrowly elliptic to elliptic-lanceolate, broadest near or below the middle and gradually tapered towards the apex, 6-12 cm long, 6-17 mm wide, sub-rigid, erect, straight to slightly incurved, glabrous (or sparsely hairy at extreme base), glaucous; longitudinal nerves numerous, close together and indistinct (i.e. immersed within the lamina), typically 3 nerves slightly raised and more evident than the rest; apices acuminate with coarsely pungent points; pulvinus well-developed, orange. Heads. 2-4 within axil of phyllodes, globular, 7-8 mm diameter when fresh, light golden, 54-85-flowered; peduncles 5-10(-12) mm long, appressed-hairy or sometimes glabrous. -

In 1999 the District received a grant from the National Heritage Trust to survey the flora of its remnant vegetation. Much of this is on private property and the District Committee selected thirty three plots of remnant bushland on private farms to be included in flora survey. The present report is based on visits to these thirty three remnants that lie on 14 of the 23 farms in the district. The surveys are intended to provide information about the biodiversity of the various remnants with the aim of establishing the priority for preservation, by fencing, of the remnants and to determine the value of linking some of them by the planting of corridors of vegetation. At each site the local landholder(s) joined the survey and provided invaluable background information about the history of the remnants. The vegetation of this part of the northern wheatbelt is known to be very diverse. The Marchagee Nature Reserve, lying north west of the District, was surveyed between 1975 and 1977 (Dell et al. 1979). The area was covered by Beard in his vegetation mapping project (Beard 1976), and part of the south of the District was covered in a report on Koobabbie Farm in 1990 (Davies 1990). -

Email: [email protected] ABSTRACT A survey of the flora and floristic communities of the Weld Range, in the Murchison region of Western Australia, was undertaken using classification and ordination analysis of quadrat data. A total of 239 taxa (species, subspecies and varieties) and five hybrids of vascular plants were collected and identified from within the survey area. Of these, 229 taxa were native and 10 species were introduced. Eight priority species were located in this survey, six of these being new records for the Weld Range. Although no species endemic to the Weld Range were located in this survey, new populations of three priority listed taxa were identified which represent significant range extensions for these taxa of conservation significance. Eight floristic community types (six types, two of these subdivided into two subtypes each) were identified and described for the Weld Range, with the primary division in the classification separating a dolerite-associated floristic community from those on banded iron formation. Floristic communities occurring on BIF were found to be associated with topographic relief, underlying geology and soil chemistry. There did not appear to be any restricted communities within the landform, but some communities may be geographically restricted to the Weld Range. Because these communities on the Weld Range are so closely associated with topography and substrate, they are vulnerable to impact from mineral exploration and open cast mining. -

Heucke, Central Australian Camel Industry Association and R. Dance, Pastoral Division, Alice Springs BACKGROUND About 600,000 camels (Camelus dromedarius) are believed to inhabit the arid centre of Australia, mainly in South Australia, Western Australia and the Northern Territory. Most of these camels are feral. A small camel industry has developed, which harvests selected animals for domestic and export markets, primarily for meat. Camels can eat more than 80% of the common plant species found in Central Australia. Some plant species are actively sought by camels and may need to be protected. METHOD Observations of grazing preferences by camels were made periodically for up to 12 years on five cattle stations in Central Australia. Where camels were accustomed to the presence of humans, it was possible to observe their grazing preferences from a few metres. Radio transmitters were fitted on some camels for easy detection and observation at any time. These evaluations were used to establish a diet preference or palatability index for observed food plants. Table 1. MVG 16 - ACACIA SHRUBLANDS Acacia hillii, Tanami Desert, NT (Photo: D. Keith) Overview The overstorey of MVG 16 is dominated by multi-stemmed acacia shrubs. The most widespread species is Acacia aneura (mulga). Mulga vegetation takes on a variety of structural expressions and is consequently classified partly within MVG 16 where the overstorey is dominated by multi-stemmed shrubs, partly within MVG 6 in accordance with the Kyoto Protocol definition of forest cover in Australia (trees > 2 m tall and crown cover > 20%, foliage projective cover > 10%); and partly within MVG 13 where the woody dominants are predominantly single-stemmed, but with crown cover less than 20%. Occurs where annual rainfall is below 250mm in southern Australia and below 350mm in northern Australia (Hodgkinson 2002; Foulkes et al. 2014). Species composition varies along rainfall gradients, with substrate and rainfall seasonality (Beadle 1981; Johnson and Burrows 1994). Transitions into MVG 13 Acacia woodlands with higher rainfall and varying soil types. Is most commonly found on red earth soils (Hodgkinson 2002). Description of the native vegetation under application Vegetation Description The clearing permit application area has been broadly mapped as the following Beard vegetation associations: 202: Shrublands; mulga & Acacia quadrimarginea scrub; and 420: Shrublands; bowgada & jam scrub (GIS Database). A flora and fauna survey was conducted by Terratree Pty Ltd during July 2015 over an area of approximately 172.5 hectares, which includes the current clearing permit application area (Terratree, 2015).
