Extracts from this publication may be reproduced, provided Connexions Leicester City is acknowledged as the source. Connexions Leicester City can accept no responsibility for any interpretation or action based on the information. 1 Connexions Leicester City February 2020 Participation categories DfE require Local Authorities to count and report destinations data in a format to reflect the Raising of the Participation Age (RPA) statutory guidance which now includes young people up to age 18.This report categorises destinations to include those outcomes that ‘Meet the Duty to Participate’. Participation is defined as those young people who are in: ·Full time study in a school, college or with a training provider ·Full time work or volunteering (20 hours or more) combined with part time education or training ·An apprenticeship or traineeship Participation also inlcudes those age 16 or 17 serving a custodial sentence. Not Participating includes employment without study, NEET (not in education, employment or training) and those whose current destination is unknown because they cannot be contacted or have refused to disclose what they are doing. Temporary Break From Learning includes illness, pregnancy and teenage parents. Working Towards includes those who are in re-engagement provision, or have a start date agreed for Participation. Participating 5.2% 2018 Not participating Participation 94.8% Participating 7.1% 2019 Not Participating Participation 92.9% From a total 2019 cohort of 240, 17 student (7.1%) were not participating by November 1st. Education: Includes school sixth form, sixth form college, further education college, part-time education, home study and juvenile offenders age 16/17 in a custodial institution. Employment with study: Employment that provides training or is combined with part time study that leads to a regulated qualification that can be found on Ofqual's Register of Regulated Qualifications. Employment without training: Employment that does not provide any training leading to a regulated qualification, employment with other training but not leading to a regulated qualification, temporary employment and part-time employment. NEET: Includes those undertaking voluntary work, being available to the labour market, young carers, teenage parents, illness, pregnancy, unlikely to be economically active. Other: Includes asylum seekers without citizenship, moved out of contact, no response, refused to disclose activity. Training - foundation learning: Skills Funding Agency (SFA)/Education Funding Agency (EFA) funded training. There are, in the partnership, 71 schools across 11 local authorities. These include schools that Ofsted has judged to be good or outstanding. The university provides training through the postgraduate route and School Direct. All trainees follow a programme to gain qualified teacher status (QTS) and a postgraduate certificate in education (PGCE) that the university awards. At the time of stage 1 of the inspection, there were 68 trainees in total. The university is an accredited 11–16 provider with post-16 enhancement, providing training in mathematics and physical education (PE).

Gartree High School is one of five high schools within Leicestershire built with a form of construction known as “Intergrid”. This building method dates back from the late 1950’s and has been assessed by the Building Research Establishment as providing a lifespan of approximately 50 years. Therefore the school is approaching the end of its lifespan and is in need of replacement. This application seeks to obtain planning permission for a replacement high school building, together with a new sports hall, alteration to playing field/sports pitch configuration, and the creation of a new parking area and an access road. Description of Proposal 2. The application site is located to the south of Oadby, on the southern side of Ridgeway and Howdon Road within the urban area. To the north of Ridgeway are residential properties looking onto the site. Along Howdon Road lies Devonshire Court, a elderly persons care home. Gartree is the middle of three adjoining campuses, with The Beauchamp College (14-19 year olds) to the east, and Brocks Hill Primary School (4-10 year olds) to the west. To the south of the sites is the open countryside (including land identified in the Green Wedge).

    RUSHEY MEAD ACADEMY NEWSLETTER Issue number 14 Friday 24th May 2019 Together We Make A Positive Difference 7 for 7 book challenge quiz Four top readers in Year 7 travelled to Bosworth Academy with Mrs Hamlet to take part in the 7 for 7 Book Challenge Quiz, presented by Creative Learning Services. There were five other schools participating, and although we did not win, the students performed very well and thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to test their book and general knowledge. Well done to all of the students involved - Divpreet, Shruthiy, Dnega and Maryam. Author visit - Alex Wheatle Alex Wheatle, winner of The Guardian Children’s Fiction Prize and MBE for services to literature, visited our library to talk to groups of students from years 8 to 10. He told them all about his challenging childhood circumstances, growing up in the care system, and how it led to his involvement in the Brixton riots in 1981 and the life-changing moment he discovered the power of reading. Students found inspiration in his tale, with comments such as: “Today I understood the importance of reading.” “I use to hate books until I read Alex Wheatle (‘Crongton Knights’).” “Today was interesting and inspiring. It makes me want to read. It makes me want to do something in my future.” “Interesting and reassuring. It doesn’t matter what your story is – it’s never too late to start doing what you love.” All students who attended were gifted books which they got signed by the author; they then enjoyed participating in a writing activity led by Alex.
