Immediate Release GOLDEN HAWKS ONE GAME FROM LEAGUE VICTORY Waterloo Lutheran University GOLDEN HAWKS can become Ontario Intercollegiate Football Conference league champions for 1966 with a victory over Royal Military College REDMEN Saturday, Nov. 5 at Seagram Stadium at 1:00 p.m. The GOLDEN HAWKS lead the O.I.F.C. league with seven victories against no defeats. The REDMEN have a 1-4 won-lost record. The HAWKS moved closer to the league title last Saturday in Hamilton when they defeated the heavily favoured McMaster MARAUDERS 13-9. Tied for second spot in the league are McMaster and University of Ottawa. The GEE-GEES and the MARAUDERS play against each other this Saturday. The game at Seagram Stadium will be part of WLUs annual homecoming. The HAWKS have been successful in the three homecoming games in which they have played this year. Rick Bryant, from Burlington, the WLU GOLDEN HAWK football player injured in an exhibition game against the University of Alberta GOLDEN BEARS on Sept. 16 has returned to lectures at WLU after spending a month in University Hospital, Edmonton. - more - Golden Hawks...2 The following statistics indicate the GOLDEN HAWKS position to date after playing six O.I.F.C. league games. RUSHING 1739 592 PASSING 909 625 PUNTING Tom Allen punted 33 times total of 1346 yds. average 41 yds. Ken Will punted 6 times total of 288 yds. average 48 yds. The GOLDEN HAWKS are one of the 5 teams being considered to participate in the College Bowl game in Toronto on Nov. 19 for the Vanier Cup. With the football season less than three weeks from completion, basketball and hockey activities are increasing on campus. Howard Lockhart, rookie basketball coach, has cut his team down to sixteen members in preparation for the exhibition game at the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium on Sunday Nov. 6 at 1 0 15 p.m. when the HAWKS play the K-W Coronets prior to the Globetrotter game. Coach Lockhart feels that this years team will have more depth and height than last years championship team. The WLU GOLDEN HAWKS basketball team has gone 36 straight league games without a loss over the past three seasons. First home game will be Sat., Nov. 19 when the HAWKS host York University. Hockey coach Ted Maki, of the former K-W Dutchmen and Galt Terriers, has had the team working out in preparation for the first home game on Thursday Nov. 10 against the Ryerson RAMS. - 30 -.
