For the seventh consecutive year, the CFL will host a trio of regional combines ahead of the CFL Combine. Following the Western Regional Combine in Edmonton, Montréal will host the Eastern Regional Combine on March 13 at the Scitec Sports Dome in Baie-D’Urfé, and Toronto will host the Ontario Regional Combine on March 21 at the Goldring Centre for High Performance Sport and at Varsity Stadium. The CFL, with input from all teams, will then invite additional players from the regional combines to the national event in Toronto depending on player performance. Last year, 13 players from regional combines were extended an invitation to the CFL Combine, and 12 of those players were selected in the 2018 CFL Draft. The top players eligible for the upcoming 2019 CFL Draft, as ranked collectively by the teams and the league office, are invited to attend the CFL Combine presented by New Era. This year, the CFL Combine presented by New Era will take place from March 22-24 at the Goldring Centre for High Performance Sport and Varsity Stadium in Toronto. The players will undergo medical examinations, performance, strength and speed tests, on-field football drills and team interviews over the three-day combine in front of general managers, coaches and scouts from all teams. Regional Combine Players drafted in the 2018 CFL Draft Last year’s regional combines accumulated an additional 13 invites to the CFL Combine, with 12 of them selected in the 2018 CFL Draft including: Marco Dubois, a receiver from Laval University (Eastern Regional), was selected in the second round, 13th overall, by the Ottawa REDBLACKS. Eric Mezzalira, a linebacker from McMaster University (Ontario Regional), was selected in the second round, 17th overall, by the Calgary Stampeders. Jordan Beaulieu, a defensive back from Western University (Ontario Regional), was selected in the third round, 24th overall, by the Edmonton Eskimos. Tanner Green, a running back from Concordia University (Western Regional), was selected in the fourth round, 32nd overall, by the Edmonton Eskimos. Arnaud Gendron-Dumouchel, an offensive lineman for University of Montréal (Eastern Regional), was selected in the fourth round, 33rd overall, by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Justin Buren, a receiver from Simon Fraser University (Western Regional), was selected in the fifth round, 37th overall, by the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. Paul Kozachuk, a linebacker from the University of Toronto (Ontario Regional), was selected in the sixth round, 46th overall, by the Montréal Alouettes. Khadim Mbaye, a linebacker from the University of Ottawa (Eastern Regional), was selected in the seventh round, 52nd overall, by the Montréal Alouettes. Harry McMaster, a receiver from Western University (Ontario Regional), was selected in the seventh round, 53rd overall, by the Edmonton Eskimos.     ED MEAGHER ARENA UNVEILING NOVEMBER 2013 NEWS RELEASE RENOVATED ED MEAGHER ARENA UNVEILED CONCORDIA STINGERS HIT THE ICE NHL STYLE Montreal, November 20, 2013 — Not only are the Concordia Stingers back on home ice after the reopening of the Ed Meagher Arena, they’re now competing on a brand new rink surface that conforms to National Hockey League specifications. The modernized arena features the latest and most cutting-edge technology on the market today — an eco-friendly carbon dioxide (CO2) ice refrigeration system. The technology, developed in Quebec, means the arena can operate 11 months a year, compared to seven using the former ammonia system. In addition to a new ice surface and boards, fans will appreciate the new heating system; the burning of natural gas has been replaced by recycled heat generated by the new refrigeration system. The renovations – made possible by a joint investment of $7.75 million from the Government of Quebec and Concordia — involved an expansion of 2,500 sq. ft. The new space boasts larger changing rooms, an equipment storage room, and two new changing rooms for soccer and rugby players. Other renovations include window replacements and a new ventilation and dehumidification system. ABOUT THE ED MEAGHER ARENA AND ITS ATHLETES The Ed Meagher Arena plays host to approximately 40 Stingers men’s and women’s hockey games a year. The Concordia hockey players proudly represent the university at an elite level competing against some of the best teams in North America. Over the years, many talented athletes — including Olympians and NHLers — have developed their skills as members of the Stingers or its founding institutions’ teams.

    FREE Circulation TheHighlander 5,000 Thursday 15 March 2012 | Issue 23 Haliburton County’s Independent Newspaper MNR battle lines drawn Petition against changes to Clear Lake reserve making its way to Minister of Natural Resoures and MPP By George Farrell Talk has turned into action after a recent public meeting to address concerns over the MNR’s proposal for the Clear Lake Conservation Reserve. As a result of the Saturday, March 10 meeting held at a packed West Guilford Recreation Centre, a petition with 112 signatures will be sent to local MPP Laurie Scott, the Minister of Natural Resources Michael Gravelle and his Deputy Minister. Back on February 9, the MNR announced in a Preliminary Managements Statement that they were expanding the 1,307 hectare Clear Lake Conservation Reserve and creating more restrictions for the use of the area. These restrictions included: prohibiting the use of existing logging trails for motorized recreational use, prohibiting the use of cached boats and canoes on remote lakes, prohibiting the grooming of existing trails for skiing and snow shoeing and effectively prohibiting trail maintenance for most of the remaining users. On February 12, three days after that announcement, the MNR called an open house meeting for February 16 at the Stanhope Firefighters Community Centre. Due to the short notice, a small group of landowners and users attended the Ten-year-old Glen Bagg contemplates life and granite.     Calgary-Laval rematch headlines 52nd ArcelorMittal Dofasco Vanier Cup Nov 21, 2016 By Alexander Cole, U Sports Correspondent After 13 exciting weeks of U Sports football, the 52nd ArcelorMittal Dofasco Vanier Cup, which will be held on Nov. 26 at Tim Hortons Field in Hamilton, Ont., will come down to a match between the Université de Laval Rouge et Or and the University of Calgary Dinos. The Rouge et Or, who will be appearing in their tenth Vanier Cup match since 1999, were a force to be reckoned with all season, finishing with a record of 7-1. The team was ranked first in the nation by the U Sports top 10, and placed second in the RSEQ conference, just behind their rivals, the Université de Montréal Carabins. Throughout their playoff run, Laval has demonstrated why they are one of the best teams in the nation. In the RSEQ semifinals, the Rouge et Or made quick work of the Concordia Stingers, with a 39-14 victory. The following week, the team narrowly edged the Carabins 20-17 in the Dunsmore Cup championship, thanks to a last minute trick play which saw quarterback Hugo Richard catch the game-winning touchdown. In their most recent contest on Saturday, the Rouge et Or blew out the Laurier Golden Hawks in the Uteck bowl. The Golden Hawks, who were coming off a thrilling comeback victory against the Western Mustangs in the Yates Cup, were no match for the No.1-ranked Rouge et Or, dismantling Laurier 36-6 with Richard passing for two touchdowns and rushing for one.
