  • Ed Meagher Arena Unveiling
ED MEAGHER ARENA UNVEILING NOVEMBER 2013 NEWS RELEASE RENOVATED ED MEAGHER ARENA UNVEILED CONCORDIA STINGERS HIT THE ICE NHL STYLE Montreal, November 20, 2013 — Not only are the Concordia Stingers back on home ice after the reopening of the Ed Meagher Arena, they’re now competing on a brand new rink surface that conforms to National Hockey League specifications. The modernized arena features the latest and most cutting-edge technology on the market today — an eco-friendly carbon dioxide (CO2) ice refrigeration system. The technology, developed in Quebec, means the arena can operate 11 months a year, compared to seven using the former ammonia system. In addition to a new ice surface and boards, fans will appreciate the new heating system; the burning of natural gas has been replaced by recycled heat generated by the new refrigeration system. The renovations – made possible by a joint investment of $7.75 million from the Government of Quebec and Concordia — involved an expansion of 2,500 sq. ft. The new space boasts larger changing rooms, an equipment storage room, and two new changing rooms for soccer and rugby players. Other renovations include window replacements and a new ventilation and dehumidification system. ABOUT THE ED MEAGHER ARENA AND ITS ATHLETES The Ed Meagher Arena plays host to approximately 40 Stingers men’s and women’s hockey games a year. The Concordia hockey players proudly represent the university at an elite level competing against some of the best teams in North America. Over the years, many talented athletes — including Olympians and NHLers — have developed their skills as members of the Stingers or its founding institutions’ teams.

15 oct 2014 – Times & Transcript Aigles Bleus hockey teAm hAs long, winning trAdition Eddie St. Pierre LOOKING BACK The Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus teams have given hockey fans in Metro Moncton a lot to cheer about over the years. The induction of the 1982 and 1995 Aigles Bleus teams into the Moncton Sports Wall of Fame on Saturday, Oct. 25, at the Capitol Theatre will complete the list of the four teams into the shrine that won the Canadian university sports men’s hockey championships. The Aigles Bleus captured the national title in 1981, 1982, 1990 and 1995. The 1981-82 team was inducted to the wall in 1987 and the 1989-90 club in 2011.Meanwhile, the 1980-81 and 1981-82 teams are also honoured members of the New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame (2004). In 1981, goals by Francois Bessette, his first with nine seconds left in the third period and second into an empty net at 19:59, gave the Jean Perron-coached Aigles Bleus a 4-2 win over the Dave King-coached Saskatchewan Huskies at Calgary. After Bessette’s goal broke the tie, King requested a stick measurement. The stick, which would have nullified the goal had it been illegal, was determined to be legal and the Huskies were penalized. Bessette then scored his second goal.Jean Sansfacon (6:08) and Michel Bechard (14:54) gave UdeM a 2-1 first period lead. The second period was scoreless, thanks to the sharp goaltending of Benoit Fortier, who faced 40 shots.Bob Dougall of the Huskies faced 33.

Women’s Basketball History 2018-2019 Season Record: 9-15 (4th in the OUA West) Playoff Record: 1-1 (lost to Lakehead in OUA West semi-final) The Gryphons entered the 2018/19 season ready to build on a strong previous year in which they earned home court advantage for the opening round of the OUA playoffs. The 2018-19 campaign proved to be a challenging year as Guelph endured a slew of injuries to key players, but the Gryphons, buoyed by the play of OUA All-Star Burke Bechard team highs of 15.8 ppg and 8.5 rpg), veteran guards Skyla Minaker and Sarah Holmes, forward Ivana Vujadinovic, and a cast of young players getting extended minutes because of the injuries, found their legs late in the season. Guelph recaptured its identity by ramping up the defence to finish the season with wins in three of the last four games. The roll continued in the OUA West quarter-final as the Gryphons got 20 points from Bechard to knock of the Windsor Lancers 62-59 on the road. Guelph then travelled to Thunder Bay to take on the Lakehead Thunderwolves in the OUA West semi-final but the hosts eliminated the resilient Gryphons with a tough 79-71 win.
