Before the FEDERAL COMMUNICATIONS COMMISSION Washington, D.C. 20554 In the Matter of ) ) Expanding Flexible Use in Mid-Band Spectrum ) GN Docket No. 17-183 Between 3.7 and 24 GHz ) REPLY COMMENTS OF THE SATELLITE INDUSTRY ASSOCIATION Tom Stroup President Satellite Industry Association 1200 18th Street N.W., Suite 1001 Washington, D.C. 20036 (202) 503-1560 November 15, 2017 SUMMARY To borrow a phrase from Mark Twain, reports of the death of C-band satellite service are greatly exaggerated. The record here contains ample evidence that C-band fixed-satellite service (“FSS”) networks provide services essential to the overall communications infrastructure, ranging from their pivotal role in delivering video and audio programming enjoyed by virtually all U.S. consumers to their use for lifeline connectivity in areas that lack any terrestrial alternatives. By themselves, C-band space and earth stations represent an investment of billions of dollars, and they support other industries that are major contributors to the country’s economy, as well as government agency operations critical to national security and public safety. To maintain these integral and necessary services, the Commission must maintain policies that enable flexible, efficient, high-quality satellite offerings in response to customer demand. Certain terrestrial interests ignore the record evidence and attempt to perpetuate several myths regarding the intensity and importance of satellites’ use of C-band spectrum, particularly with respect to the 3.7-4.2 GHz downlink portion. The Commission must not be swayed by these exercises in wishful thinking. First, there is the pervasive myth that C-band spectrum is currently underutilized.

If 2020 was the summer where everyone stayed home, 2021 will be the one where people can’t wait to get back out. With Memorial Day Weekend approaching, what are country radio’s programmers seeing as the singles for this season? “I think three are shaping up to be summer soundtracks with Luke Bryan’s ‘Waves’ front and center,” says Audacy Country Format Captain Tim Roberts. “It’s a super-chill track that captures summer and fun beautifully.” Also on Roberts’ summer fun list: Brian Kelley’s “Beach Cowboy,” “which I think is where a lot of brains drift toward daydreaming about summer beach fun,” and Old Dominion’s new “I Was on a Boat That Day.” (Continued on page 4) COUNTRY INSIDER TOP 5: WGAR’s “Wazz & Carletta” Look Back On Morning Show Pairing Ahead Of First Anniversary. • 'Titanium' | David Guetta (Feat. Sia)
‘Titanium’ David Guetta (feat. Sia) ‘Titanium’ | David Guetta (feat. Sia) ‘Titanium’ was a number one hit for French DJ and music producer David Guetta, featuring vocals from Australian singer Sia. Initially released digitally as one of four promotional singles for the album Nothing but the Beat in August 2011, the hit was o!cially released as the fourth single from the album in December of that same year. ‘Titanium’ was well received in many of the top music markets worldwide, achieving number 1s in four countries and top 10s in an incredible twenty "ve countries across the globe. #e single was met with positive reviews, with many claiming it to be the show stopper of the album thanks to Sia’s collaboration on lyrics and phenomenal vocal performance. Described as “epic and energising”, ‘Titanium’ was musically likened to the works of Coldplay and Sia’s vocal was compared to that of Fergie. Many reviewers raved about Sia’s delivery of the song’s hook, stating that ‘Titanium’ was by far the “most intriguing hook-up” of Guetta’s "$h studio album. #e single was certi"ed 3 x Platinum in the UK with sales just short of two million copies, and 2 x Platinum in the US with four million records sold. Guetta’s album Nothing But !e Beat topped the album charts in the DJ’s home nation of France, as well as Australia, Belgium, Germany, Spain and Switzerland. While some reviewers felt it was lacking somewhat in comparison to his earlier works, the album was well-received by many with tracks ‘Night of Your Life’ and ‘Titanium’ being highlighted as the strongest on the release.
