Ty Segall Shares Cover of the Dils' “Class War” Off Fudge Sandwich, New Covers Album, out October 26Th Via in the Red So October 16, 2018 For Immediate Release Ty Segall Shares Cover Of The Dils’ “Class War” Off Fudge Sandwich, New Covers Album, Out October 26th Via In The Red Solo Acoustic Tour Kicks Off Saturday (Fudge Sandwich cover art) As previously announced, Ty Segall is releasing a covers album called Fudge Sandwich on October 26th via In The Red and in the midst of a solo, acoustic tour (all dates are below). With Fudge Sandwich, Ty celebrates his disparate musical influences by covering some of his favorite songs from his record collection -- everything from John Lennon to Rudimentary Peni gets the Segall treatment. In some cases, the renditions remain fairly faithful to the original, while in others, he completely turns the song on its head. There's no better example of the latter than Ty's take on the 1977 punK rocK classic “Class War” by The Dils. Fronted by brothers Chip and Tony Kinman (who sadly passed away earlier this year), The Dils were often referred to as “California's The Clash” and their song “Class War” was one minute and forty three seconds of slash n' burn punK aggression. Ty has taken the song and turned it into a melancholic ballad that's no less impactful than the original, but in a totally different way. The song’s lyrics are as poignant today as they were forty years ago. Chip Kinman has given it his seal of approval and says, "Ty Segall answers questions that Tony and I never even thought to ask with his version of ‘Class War.’ I LOVE it!" In addition to the aforementioned John Lennon, Rudimentary Peni and The Dils, Fudge Sandwich feature covers of songs Ty loves by Amon Düül II, Sparks, War, Funkadelic, Gong, Grateful Dead, Neil Young, and Spencer Davis Group. Ty has had a very busy year. Drag City released his excellent Freedom’s Goblin this past January and Joy, his collaborative album with White Fence, in July. Last month saw the release of the GØGGS album, an entirely different beast, via In The Red. ESSAY BUYING A NEW CAR Helen Webb In late July 2018 the air conditioning quit in my 2003 Mercury Sable. In May when the oil was changed, I was told that car needed about $2,000 of repair work. My plan was to wait until September 18, 2018 and buy a new car. September 18 was the last day of a three year insurance penalty for a prior mishap. For several weeks I was able to park in the shade and to do my errands in the mornings. Then the August heat arrived. In the meantime I had talked with several people about what kind of car to buy. Honda Accord was the unanimous winner. Several neighbors offered to go car shopping with me as did Lisa, my daughter. Eighty-two year old women should not go car shopping alone. I made an appointment with a highly recommended Honda salesman and was late arriving as I had driven past the dealership and got lost trying to find my way back without having to make a left hand turn. The salesman warmly greeted Lisa and me. He wanted to know what kind of car I wanted: the size, the motor, the various accessories, the color, etc. All of which are important to most people but not me. I told him:”I want a dependable car that will start on the first try and one I can find in a parking lot.” Actually, I didn’t want a yellow, white nor black car. Soon he had a car for me to test drive.
