Unveiled by New York State Governor George E. Pataki in 2001, this program has catapulted the state into a posi- tion as an international leader in high-technology in just a few short years. Overseen by Empire State Development, the state’s economic development organization, the program’s five high-tech clusters are working to join government and private resources with the research strengths of the state’s universities to develop scientific knowledge, new cures and life-saving medicines, and job opportunities for this generation and the next.
