Carl Alan Awards 2010 the Oscars of the World of Dance
Carl Alan Awards 2010 The Oscars of the World of Dance The Carl-Alan Awards were first introduced in 1953 by Eric Morley and were named after the joint Chairmen of Mecca Carl Heimann and Alan Fairley. The International Dance Teachers' Association was proud to present the 2010 Carl Alan Awards on Sunday 7th February, in conjunction with the IDTA President’s Dinner and Dance. The IDTA were pleased that all three sections of the awards were presented: Freestyle Theatre Ballroom, Latin & Sequence There are five categories of awards in each section. Performer's Award Teacher's Award Competitive Coach/Choreography Award Outstanding Services to Dance Award Lifetime Achievement Award All recognised dance associations or societies were invited to make nominations in all categories and each member body of the British Dance Council or Theatre Dance Council International was invited to send a delegate to represent them on each of the selection committees. The IDTA remained independent in the selection process. From the many nominations received, the selection committees were asked to short-list up to three nominees in each category. To be nominated for a Carl Alan Award by your peers reflects the nominee's considerable contribution to the world of dance. IDTA would like to congratulate all the nominees; unfortunately there can only be one winner in each category. The IDTA would like to thank Mr Sam Kane and Miss Linda Lusardi for hosting the evening and presenting the Carl Alan Awards. ~~~o0o~~~ Performer's Award From the many nominations received, the selection committee short-listed the following nominees: Freestyle Performer's Award Arron Fowler Eilidh McCall Joanne McPhee Winner: Joanne McPhee Joanne has been involved in competitive dancing since the age of 10. -

FRONT COVER: Kirdyapkin races through the Brandenburg Gate on his way to becoming 50k World Champion. PHOTO: by Jeff Salvage ALSO: Scott Davis makes a huge breakthrough in Switzerland. Editorial People all over the world love race walking. It started here, and now reaches into every continent. I often find myself in contact with people in far-off exotic locations. I’ve just recently returned from racing in Switzerland and France. Faces become familiar from race to race abroad, and people eventually introduce themselves and over time become friends. Many readers have told me how they have made long- term friends at overseas events. Several people at the Swiss event turned up six days later at the French event 500 miles away, and supported each other just because they had that one common link. Race Walking is treated slightly differently within each country, but walkers have a huge respect for each other whether they are Olympians or just fitness walkers. UK walkers race abroad in many countries each year, and welcome overseas walkers to events here. This magazine is now sent to readers in twenty different countries, and growing... People queuing behind me at the post office each month really hate me, as I have so many international magazines to send, one-by-one! On my holiday I found the source of the River Danube and ceremoniously set one of my old trainers floating down it. An hour later, the other one was set floating down the River Rhine. (Please don’t litter!) You can’t just throw away something that has brought you so much enjoyment! Am I crazy? Aren’t all race walkers.. -

Warner Leisure Hotels Crown First Official Strictly Come Dancing Break Winners Submitted By: Pr-Sending-Enterprises Monday, 15 March 2010
Warner Leisure Hotels crown first official Strictly Come Dancing break winners Submitted by: pr-sending-enterprises Monday, 15 March 2010 Warner Leisure Hotels has announced that a couple from Abingdon has been crowned the winners of its first official Strictly Come Dancing holiday breaks. Amanda McCabe and Julian Siret were presented with an engraved glass glitter ball trophy by stars of the BBC TV show Darren Bennett and Lilia Kopylova after winning the final of the event held at the Warner Leisure Hotels' Cricket St Thomas hotel in Somerset. The couple, who began dancing only three years ago, won over the audience of more than 400 guests by performing an "absolutely superb" waltz to the song "To You I'm Born Again". Referring to the difference in height between 6ft 3ins Julian and Amanda, 5ft 2ins, Darren praised the couple for "going out there and moving beautifully". He added: "It is really refreshing to see some real quality dancing, and great movement." Fellow judge Ryan McShane, who provided dance instruction during the three-night UK Breaks (http://www.warnerleisurehotels.co.uk/short-breaks/uk-break.aspx) at the Cricket St Thomas hotel near Chard, said: "That was absolutely superb. This couple have a height difference but I just think you moved so well together." Lilia, also a judge, commended the couple for their "great achievement" and "very neat" footwork. The victory, in which they beat eight other couples in a vote by the audience, was all the more remarkable after their first entry in a competition two years ago ended in calamity. -
