Good of the League Marine Corps History On 27 Sept 1944, the American flag was raised over Peleliu, Palau Islands, at the 1st Marine Division Command Post. Although the flag raising symbolized that the island was secured, pockets of determined Japanese defenders continued to fight on. As late as 21 April 1947, 27 Japanese holdouts finally surrendered to the American naval commander on the scene. During World War II, Marines were given the opportunity to purchase packs of official photographs from various campaigns. News from The Bunker SOS Pancake Breakfast SOS/Pancake Breakfast- As you are well aware, Covid-19 has had an impact on the Detachment's fundraising ability. We missed our springtime spaghetti dinner, Mayfest at Smithville, Bayfest in Somers Point, our golf tournament and other events. We still have bills to pay as everyone does i.e. utilities, insurance, routine maintenance upkeep, etc. Normally at this time of year we would be planning our annual SOS/Pancake breakfast at the Bunker. However, since the Bunker is small and seating capacity is very limited to try to have the traditional breakfast, it just would not be feasible with all the current health guidelines. So we decided to have a "virtual breakfast" to hopefully raise a few dollars. Here's how it works. Think about what you would normally spend for our SOS/pancake breakfast, such as placemat ads $5 for a booster or $25 for a business card size ad, tickets for you and the family $8 each, gas to drive to the Bunker, purchase some 50/50 raffle tickets, as you can see it adds up quickly. We ask that you think about your usual annual breakfast cost and make a monetary donation to the Detachment.
