State Deputy Robert Kish Vol. 112 No. 6 June - July 2016 Post-Convention Page 1 Council 1785 Brother Knights of Oregon, Corvallis Thank You, Thank You, Thank You. I can’t say this enough. The State Convention April 29/30 and May 1, was absolutely fantastic. Being my State Chaplain last Convention as your Oregon State Deputy, I couldn’t ask for a better Fr. Theo Lange weekend to go out on. God is so good…as all you Bothers Knights of Council 15595 Oregon are too! For those who could not make it, you were missed. Mt. Angel Abbey I pretty much said everything that had to be said at the Convention and recognized everyone there as well. There isn’t too much more I could Imm. Past SD think of to write in this letter except to continually thank all of you who have worked so hard to make Oregon successful. Pat Rice State Deputy Council 6602 Bob Kish Please…“Keep Moving Forward”, with two months remaining in this Fraternal Year and my term as State Deputy, Oregon is really so close to Newberg making our goals and I know we can do it.

Then “Keep Moving Forward” the next Fraternal Year as well. The Oregon Knights of Columbus State Secretary is growing and increasing its charitable footprint year after year. We ALL need to continue this Sidney Thiel trend. Council 9137 Many Brother Knights have asked for the prayer I read at my closing of the Convention. How Sherwood appropriate is this for my last State Deputy letter to you too. This is a very powerful prayer and it could very easily become a Knights’ prayer. It perfectly describes what I have become the State Treasurer last decade as a State Officer, the Oregon State Deputy and as a Catholic Christian man. Francis Mohr God Bless you all. Council 0849 I’m part of the fellowship of the unashamed. I have the Holy Spirit power. The die has Baker City been cast. I have stepped over the line. The decision has been made - I’m a disciple of His. I won’t look back, let up, slow down, back away or be still. My past is redeemed, my present State Advocate makes sense, my future is secure. I’m finished and done with low living, sight walking, smooth knees, colorless dreams, tamed visions, worldly talking, cheap giving and dwarfed goals. I no Ron Boyce longer need preeminence, prosperity, position, promotions, plaudits or popularity. I don’t have Council 3591 to be right, first, tops, recognized, praised, regarded or rewarded. I now live by faith, lean in His Tigard presence, walk by patience, am uplifted by prayer and I labor with power. My face is set, my gait is fast, my goal is heaven, my road is narrow, my way rough, my companions are few, my State Warden Guide reliable and my mission clear. I cannot be bought, compromised, detoured, lured away, turned back, deluded or delayed. I will not flinch in the face of sacrifice, hesitate in the presence Steve Steele of the enemy, pander at the pool of popularity or meander in the maze of mediocrity. I won’t Council 6266 give up, shut up, let up, until I have stayed up, stored up, prayed up, paid up, and preached up Beaverton for the cause of Christ. I am a disciple of Jesus. I must go till he comes, give till I drop, preach till all know and work till He stops me. And, when He comes for His own, He will have no problem (See next page recognizing me. . . my banner will be clear! for Officers for (State Deputy remarks continue on the next page) FY 2016-2017) STATE DEPUTY Vol. 112 No. 5 June - July 2016 Page 2 REPORT CONTINUED (State Deputy remarks continued from previous page)

State Treasurer Ron Boyce LOOKING BACK AND TO THE FUTURE

Council 3591 (Submitted by DD3 David Saunders) Tigard The Oregon State Knights just completed their 108th State Convention on April 29/30 and May 1, 2016 in Salem Oregon. Those of you who attended I’m sure State Advocate will agree that it was truly an awe inspiring three days packed with information DD3 David Steve Steele Saunders for our Councils. Our Oregon Councils accomplished such tremendous Acts of Council 6266 Charity throughout this Fraternal Year - from many hours of work and the sheer number of dollars that was raised for charity. We also received inspiration from the words of Beaverton Sample, Cary, Bishop Smith and all the clergy who were present.

The highlight of inspiration was Fr. Theo Lange. What a man, what a priest and what a State Warden Knight! He is always so inspirational and he brought it all together again and again. Acts of Michael Rooke Charity as opportunitiesare all around us. And don’t forget to go to confession regularly. Council 9137 The final good news is - Fr. Theo will continue to be our State Chaplain this coming Fraternal Sherwood Year 2016-2017. Vol. 112 No. 5 June - July 2016 Page 3

State Chaplain Report

Thank you for another inspiring State Convention with a good representation of the Knights from around the State. This was Bob Kish’s last time at the helm and we look forward to Sid Thiel continuing the grace we are experiencing. Thank you, Bob, for giving your all for God, the Church and our families. Archbishop Sample has blessed me by assigning me as the State Chaplain for another year. So a heartfelt "thank you" to the Shepherd in Western Oregon. We also have some exciting news that Fr. Tom State Chaplain Unger, in Redmond, will be working with me as we continue to improve the Fr. Theodore Lange spiritual experience of the Knights. Fr. Tom and I will work together to serve you and the Knights in the State with all the Council chaplains. Thank you Fr. Tom for your S most generous priestly offering! T Were not our hearts burning within us! These words, which are from the disciples after encountering the A Risen Christ, can become our words as we open our hearts in the Jubilee of Mercy to the conversion Jesus is T inviting us to embrace. WE know from experience that conversion is a life-long experience or pilgrimage. The pilgrimage of life is symbolized in the pilgrimages we are taking during the Jubilee Year. I encourage you to E work with your to organize parish pilgrimages this summer to the Holy Doors: Cathedral (Portland or Baker), Grotto, Powel Butte Retreat Center, St. Sharbel Maronite Church (Portland), and Sacred Heart (Medford). C H Brothers, the theme for the year is “Always Forward, Siempre Adelante”. What an inspiration of the Holy Spirit! Yes brothers! We must always move forward and accomplish the mission that is ahead of us. Always A Forward! In Charity, Fraternity, Unity and Patriotism! Always Forward, Brothers. Where there is a will, there is P a way and we seek to do God’s most holy and loving will, thus we must find a way! Please seek to take the hard road and work together to open paths of life and light in a time of much death and darkness. As we all L work together, Brothers, we grow strong. One man is not to stand alone, rather many Knights united are strong. We then pray for the grace to desire to do God’s will and to become more and more focused on Jesus A and the mission of bringing life, light and love into our Parishes, Families and communities. I N Vivat Jesus,

Humbly Yours, Fr. Theo State Chaplain Vol. 112 No. 5 June - July 2016 Page 4

Sid Thiel Hello my Brother Knights. State Deputy Elect 2016-17 At the State Convention in Salem I was elected as your new State Deputy. I really appreciate the faith you have in me by giving me this honor and I will put all my effort into helping you during the coming year.

Whereas I was just elected State Deputy, my office isn’t official till July 1st and all questions and concerns should still go to our current State Deputy, Robert Kish.

I plan on trying to visit your Councils in August through October; this will be on a given weekend in your area and would very much like to see you there. More details will be coming later. These will be short visits to get to meet you and answer your questions and concerns.

We are very close to reaching our goal with Star Councils and Membership so do the best you can to support this effort and send our current Worthy State Deputy out on a very high note.

I am in the middle of planning the Summer meeting which will be on July 23 and 24. I will have more information coming out in the next 2 weeks, to allow you to prepare. I will have some interesting things happening at this summer meeting, so don’t miss it.

Again thank you for your support and let’s start building now for a successful year. Let’s make this summer the tops in recruiting new members.

Vivat Jesus

Sid Thiel State Secretary State Warden Report My Fellow Brothers, I hope all who attended the state convention in Salem had a wonderful time. I did, even though it may have looked like I was running around like a chicken with my head cut off! But it was my last one as State Warden so I can’t complain too much.

I would like to give a special shout out to Nick Guenther. He did an outstanding job helping all Steve Steele the state officers and making sure everything ran smoothly. Thank you to Council 5060 who State Warden put on a great Barn Dance themed dinner Friday night. The chicken was fabulous. I also would Advocate Elect like to thank Mike Woody for helping with scanning and being the “bouncer”. And to anyone else I may have missed, “Thank you.”

It has been an honor serving you as the State Warden for the past two years and I look forward to being the new State Advocate beginning July 1st.

Vivat Jesus,

Council 6266 Beaverton, supported by Council 3179 Gresham are planning an event on Saturday May 28, 2016. The event will be a procession. St. Cecilia’s Parish is having their first Corpus Christi Procession. The Knights of Councils 6266 and Council 3179 are reaching out to their Brother Knights and all the faithful to are inviting them to come process with them as Our Lord is carried through the streets of Beaverton starting from St. Cecilia’s Church. The procession is planned to begin immediately after the 8:00 a.m. Mass and starting around 9:00 a.m. It is requested that you attend Mass and then the Knights will form up in the proper order.

The route is approximately 1 mile through the streets of Beaverton around St. Cecilia's Church. There will be two stops or altars along the way, one at Veterans Park and the other at the Beaverton Library.

After the Procession, light refreshments of coffee, lemonade and donuts will be provided in the Activity Center. The Northeast meeting room at St. Cecilia’s has been reserved as a changing room for the Knights from 7:00 a.m. - noon.

The procession would really benefit from a contingent of Fourth Degree Knights in full regalia. In addition, there will be a need for Knights in Council shirts acting as monitors or chaperones directing the faithful along the route. The more the merrier!

The Corpus Christi Procession is being planned and sponsored by St. Cecilia's, however the event is open to all. I would encourage you to invite all Councils and Assemblies in addition to those in the metro area.

This is another great opportunity for our Brother Knights to come together to help each other by joining in support of our brother Council 6266 in Beaverton as well as stand to gather in support of our faith..

God Bless,

Virgin of Guadalupe, pray for us !!

Wow, what a great Convention!

Thanks to all who put in the extra effort to make our Convention run smoothly. Paul Crawford Council Director Awards were given to the Councils that turned in their reports and that is how the system works. We would like all Councils to get in the habit of turning in reports by the 15th of each month. Thanks to all Councils that are submitting now and a big thanks to all Councils that will be sending theirs in in the D future. O These three 4th Degree Knights met in Bend during R the 4th Degree Exemplification held in Bend on S’ April 16th this year. During a conversation, they discovered that they had all been Columbian Squires during the 1950’s in different cities and different Squire Circles.

R They learned that Paul Crawford was a Squire in E Canby, Bob Sheveland was a Squire in Gresham and Frank Krupicka was a Squire in Molalla. P

O They had competed against each other in Softball, track meets and basketball games and remembered those R days with great enthusiasm. They recounted how much fun they had and how formative in their lives the Squires were then and the Knights of Columbus is today. T Vivat Jesus

If you can smile when things go wrong, you have someone in mind to blame.

Ever stop to think and forget to start again? Vol. 112 No. 5 June - July 2016 Page 15 Update Your Beneficiaries Sometimes it is easy to overlook the simplest of things. Take, for example, the beneficiaries on your life insurance policies. If your policy was applied for

Jim Walton and issued several years ago, it may very well be that the person you originally selected as the beneficiary is no longer the person you would necessarily want to receive the policy proceeds. If you bought the policy when you were single, for example, you may have named your parents as beneficiaries. If you have since married, your policies should be updated to reflect your spouse as beneficiary. Maybe you’ve had children since, who are not named on the policies. Most people list a primary beneficiary, who is specifically designated as the first in priority to receive policy proceeds. We also encourage the naming of a contingent beneficiary, an alternate person designated to receive policy proceeds, usually in the event that the original beneficiary pre-deceases the insured. I routinely call all of my policyholders for annual review appointments, usually near the policy anniversary date of your policy – that is, the date it was originally issued. One of the matters that I’ll discuss during this review is the status of your beneficiary designations. If they need updating, and they often do, I can complete the paperwork during that appointment. I look forward to meeting with each of you to discuss your family’s needs. Insurance Check-Up for 2016 Where did 2015 go? It seems like it was summer yesterday and Thanksgiving was last week. I hope you and your family had a great finish to 2015. Now, the first quarter of 2016 has flown by. Hopefully, you’ve established a few goals for this year. I’ve learned a great tip regarding resolutions. First, write them down. It’s not too late if you haven’t already done this. Commit your goals to paper and post it someplace you will see it often. Writing down a goal is the first step towards achieving it. It may not make sense at first, but I’m sure you have heard stories of the success this simple task can bring. Whether your goal is to exercise more, give more to charity, read more or watch less television, you’re more likely to accomplish it if you write it down. Second, resolve to have an expert look at your finances. I recommend that you have a team of experts help you, and I would love to be the first you sit with. Let’s schedule some time to meet together, and I, your professional Knights of Columbus insurance agent, will provide an “insurance check-up” (at no cost!) that will evaluate any gaps in your family’s life insurance protection. Now might be the perfect time to fill those gaps, not later. Keep in mind that unlike many other products, you don’t just need money to obtain life insurance; you also need good health, and no one knows when your health could change. Did I mention my check-up is free of charge? When was the last time you received something for free that could provide value to you and your family for generations? Call me today. Vivat Jesus, Ron Boyce Oregon State Membership Director Vol. 112 No. 5 June - July 2016 Page 17 Pro-Life Director Report Worthy Grand Knights, Please share this with your council Pro Life Directors. Mike Rosetti Culture of During our last week’s 2016 Convention I was thinking of ways to generally improve our Culture Life of Life activities. More than anything we need to restore our ‘culture of life’ in our great state. Where life is being attacked and marginalized at every stage, we need to be the shining light - vocal leaders, rather than silent. No single one of us can stem the tide of what seems to be a real hate for life but in working together we can, by the grace of God, make a difference. So in an effort to be more active I ask every council to do the following: · Send in your monthly Culture of Life activity report (due on the 15th of the following month) even if you have no activities. This alone is worth 100 points. · Review prior to sending, even if you don’t think you had any activities. It might, at the very least, remind you of an activity that you forgot. · Physically review the activity report, perhaps at your Officers meetings, and identify any items that you could do that you are currently not doing. · Our greatest strength that our adversaries don’t have is prayer. Every Council should be praying the rosary, at least monthly, to end abortion. You will notice that this, points wise, is worth 200 pt./candidate (Part II/8). It will also give us the grace, strength and courage we all need to advance our cause for our most vulnerable of our brothers and sisters. Encourage every one of your Council members to participate. · Part III of the form affords us the opportunity to account for those pro-life items that we participate in but not listed in Part II. · If you have any ideas for additional activities that you would like to see on the report, submit them to me and I will submit for review for inclusion on the list.

Brothers, I know this takes time but please remember that our very lives are our most precious gift from God. Let’s do everything we can to protect this gift.

If you have any questions or need any clarification or help filling out reports, please call. If I don’t know the answer I will get it. I’m here to help.

Thank you brothers. God bless you. Vivat Jesus!

The Value of Membership Referrals As a professional insurance agent, one of the things I appreciate most is when one of my Brother Knight clients or his wife refers another member to me. This really is a great endorsement of the service I provided. It tells me that they were so pleased with what I Jim Walton helped them accomplish that they want me to help others achieve the same level of financial safety and security. When I meet with you, please pass along the names of those who might be able to benefit from the analysis that I provide. Similarly, there is no stronger membership recruiting tool than the referral. How many of us know an eligible Catholic male who is not a member of the Knights of Columbus? Do you have Catholic family or friends, local or not, who have yet to join? Most likely, they’ve never been asked and don’t know enough about the Order to seek out membership on their own. If you have names of potential members, please pass them along to me or your Grand Knight. Let us know if we can use your name when we contact the gentlemen in question. It is always much more effective to tell a candidate for membership that he was recommended by a current member, especially someone he knows. Don’t worry if the candidate is outside the area I serve or beyond the district of the local Councils, we can make sure we put these future members in touch with the right people in their communities. New members are the lifeblood of the Order. All the good deeds done by the Order are driven by the members. Over the past decade, Knights have given more than $1.5 billion to charity and provided in excess of 670 million hours of service. And our membership has merely scratched the surface in North America. Imagine the potential.

Betschart made a presentation at the Convention Saturday commending the Knights of Dr. George Vennes Columbus for their financial and spiritual support of Mt. Angel's Seminarians. He read a list U of Councils who are participating in the program. Unfortunately, not all participating Councils G were recognized. I sent him a copy of the State list to fill him in. My Council #12656 was one left out. We are supporting two Seminarians, currently studying in Rome and our checks are sent through the Archdiocesan H Vocation Office and I, like may others, did not notify Msgr Betschart. So, our Council was not recognized.. The answer to this problem is to notify Tamara at the Abbey when you are sending checks directly to the T Seminarian.. Msgr. determines who in the Seminary is in need of financial support and is reliant on this data.

S I know how he feels, when I receive the annual report from Supreme and find at least 25% of the participating Councils, the previous year, did not send me a copy of their RSVP report sheet. I don't need a copy of the checks, just the report sheet. O Remember, “NO ONE IS BORN A PRIEST" F Vivat Jesus

Page 30 Vol. 112 No. 5 June - July 2016 General Program Director Report

Hello, Brother Knights; So far this job as General Program Director has been delightful. Our State Convention was full of surprises. Many of our Councils took home numerous plaques and awards. So, for the rest of George Murphy this calendar year and next year, the other Directors and I will be working hard, with support of our State Officers and District Deputies, to increase the reporting of the many projects that you and your Council are working together to complete.

Michael Woody will be our new Membership Director. Michael Rooke is our new State Warden. All the new rookie Directors are working very hard to lead the way for a very industrious year. The results that they are producing are more like veteran Directors. The future is unlimited for growth with these guys. I will be back at Supreme during the weekend of June 18, 2016 to learn about the latest information that is available.

Now, keep in mind, all of the things that happened during State Convention you can view on line. Thanks in advance.

Vivat Jesus

Page 31 Vol. 112 No. 5 June - July 2016 Youth Director Report

My fellow Brothers!

Wonderful job for all of the Councils who put in the time and hard work for our Youth Essay, Bert Bungcayo Soccer Shootout, Poster and Basketball Free Throw event for the 2015-2016 school year. As my Council’s Youth Director, I can speak to that. For other Councils that tried to hold these youth events but could not due to many different reasons, thank you for your efforts. Keep all of the Councils that are trying in your prayers to God for a successful program in the future that they may strive for 100% participation in Oregon. As I look back over the 4 months, following taking on this new position as State Youth Director, I can say I am learning as much as I can but I have a lot more to learn and experience. In this position, one of my jobs is to input points in an Excel spreadsheet and send it off to our State Programs Director. In the past 4 months, I have only received a total of 25 Councils who are reporting points. I believe there can be more participation from Councils who do a lot of work but do not report their Council’s hours every month. My goal as State Youth Director is to follow this year’s theme of “Move Forward.” These are the memorable words I heard and learned at the Convention and they now become our “theme” as Brother Knights. How can I help you all “Move Forward?” You can ask me questions on anything. I might have solutions on how our Council does it or I can find out what works for other Councils, which then could be used by Councils like yours. I am open to questions. I had the chance to talk to three Youth Directors at the State Convention about the reporting form and how to start an event with a local Catholic school near their Council, but they do not know how to break the Ice. One of the questions from a fellow Brother was regarding problems with the online Youth reporting form. I hope the Brother who asked that question the day before was present the next day at the State Convention when State mentioned working on a better reporting form. All I offered that Brother was that we have a video online on how to do it with ease. I feel that this was meant for using your own personal Outlook or whatever is on your personal computer as default email platform (mine is Microsoft Outlook) account but he used Yahoo. This could well be the problem using accounts like that. You have to watch the video on our state website. I had another question from a Brother about building better participation for their program. I asked who is your target market? The Brother said, “We advertise to the public,” but do not get a good turn out? I then asked if they had some kind of school in their area like a Catholic School. The Brother said, “Yes.” I said, “Are you communicating with that school?” He said, “No.” I mentioned that they should make connections in that school and maybe a home for that Council because that is how my Council has done it for years. I mentioned that I could write a letter of acceptance to the school after he gets me names of the principal and priest from that parish. I feel, I could be a huge resource for solutions. I will try to give ideas on how our Council has had success or I will find out from other successful Councils in a similar situation like yours and how they did it. If anyone should have any questions about this activity, you will find my contact information located on the reporting form.

As I close this month’s report, I would like to thank again all of the Councils that held our youth programs and who reported points for the last 4 months. The theme of this year’s State Convention was to “Move Forward.” How can I help you “Move Forward.” I know we can have more than 25 councils report and one day hopefully get 90+ councils reporting points every month. As state Youth Director, I can only remind, help, and encourage Councils to participate. Do you think we can have 30 councils next month reporting? I believe we can! God Bless you Brothers for all of your hard work and let’s pray for Councils that are trying to put a youth program together. Vivat Jesus! Bert Bungcayo Youth Director

State Warden Report

My Brother Knights,

Steve Steele I hope all who attended the State Convention in Salem had a wonderful time. I did, even State Warden Advocate Elect though it may have looked like I was running around like a chicken with my head cut off. But it was my last one as State Warden, so I can’t complain too much.

I would like to give a special shout out to Nick Guenther. He did an outstanding job helping all the State Officers and making sure everything ran smoothly. Thank you to Council 5060 who put on a great themed Barn Dance dinner Friday night. The chicken was fabulous. Also want to thank Mike Woody for his help with scanning and being the “bouncer”. Also, I thank anyone else who I may have missed - Thank you.

It has been an honor serving you as the State Warden the past 2 years and I look forward to being the new State Advocate July, 1.

Baker City Council 849 greeted all ladies and mothers by presenting them with a carnation as they entered Sunday Mass at St. Francis DeSales Cathedral on Mother’s Day, Sunday May 8th.

After Mass the Council then cooked and served their Annual Mother’s Day Champagne Breakfast of Texas French toast with their famous rum syrup, maple favored baked ham, scrambled eggs and fresh fruit salad.

Baskets were also available in the vestibule of the Cathedral for collection of small gifts (lotions, nail polish, gift cards, etc.) that help say "Thank You" and "Happy Mothers Day" to the young and often single girls who are either pregnant or already moms with infants, who are clients at the local Rachael Pregnancy Center.

Silver Rose Chairman Report Submitted by: Larry Mullalay, Chairman

Dear Brothers,

Since 1960, the Knights of Columbus have celebrated the yearly pilgrimage of the Silver Rose. The Silver Rose honors Our Lady of the Americas, and expresses the unity of our Order and its dedication to the sanctity of human life. In recent years the program has expanded to from three to six silver roses with the Knights of Columbus from Canada to Mexico carrying them from destination to destination and finally to the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico. The Silver Rose provides us an occasion to strengthen the spirituality of our Councils and build bridges within our parishes, particularly with the Hispanic community. I want to thank the following Eastern Oregon Councils who will be participating in this year’s pilgrimage.

Food For Families Submitted by: Richard Adkins, Chairman

Report Due By: JUNE 30 - Form 10057

The Knights of Columbus Food for Families Reimbursement Program was established in Dick Akins 2012. Under this program, local Knights of Columbus Councils or Assemblies make an annual contribution of $500 or more, or 1,000 pounds of food to a local community food bank or parish food pantry. For every $500 or 1,000 pounds of food contributed, the Council or Assembly is eligible for a refund of $100 from the Supreme Council. The maximum refund a Council or Assembly can receive is $500 per fraternal year. For Columbian Squires Circles, the minimum donation is $100, or 200 pounds of food, with each circle eligible to receive from the Supreme Council a refund of $20 for each $100 donated or 200 pounds of food. Reimbursement must be applied for in the fraternal year during which contributions were made.

As resources permit, Councils, Assemblies and Circles may provide support to multiple food banks and/or food pantries. The minimum contribution to qualify for a refund is $500 ($100 for Squires circles) for each food bank/food pantry supported.

In addition to a refund for financial contributions, Councils, Assemblies and Circles are also eligible to receive a Food for Families plaque (and, in successive years, date plates signifying years of participation) in recognition of manpower support provided to food banks and food pantries. Significant manpower support is required, and should be outlined in Section II of this application.

OREGON STATE COUNCIL May 7, 2016 Merry Christmas!!

Yes, there are still a few months to go, but it is not too early to start thinking and planning for Keep Christ in Christmas Billboards along Oregon Interstates and Highways. I can start reserving billboards in early summer. The sooner we know how much funds we have, the more billboards I can reserve.

Eighty five percent of the billboard sites we rented last year were also posted in November, which added more “public exposure days” during the “commercial Christmas season.” According to statistics provided by the three billboard companies we used, these billboard sites provided nearly three million “viewing impressions.”

The view on the billboard is the Nativity scene (Joseph, Mary and the Christ Child) with the phrase “Keep Christ in Christmas”, along with 10 inch bold letters at the bottom indicating the sponsor is: “Oregon Knights of Columbus.” The billboard activity is an opportunity for high public exposure both for this Christian message and for the Knights of Columbus Organization.

What might your Council or Assembly contribute? You can consider the range of contributions received during past years which was $50 to $450. Twenty two of the 24 Councils that participated were in the $200-350 range. All amounts help!

As Chairman, my goal is “involvement” i.e. every Council participating with some contribution. Last year only 24 Councils participated, or 27%. Can’t we do better?

Please include this activity as you plan ahead for the next fiscal year. You can help me with my planning for this coming Christmas Season by sending your contribution soon, preferably right after the start of the new fiscal year (July 1st).

Don’t hesitate to call me – (541) 523-6245, with any questions. Please mail the COMMITMENT NOTICE -- and hopefully a check!! --- To our State Secretary, Francis Mohr, 1555 14th Street, Baker City, Oregon 97814. Thank you for your timely attention and assistance with this State Activity.

Prayer for the Sick

Dear Jesus, Divine Physician and Healer of the sick, we turn to you in this time of illness. O dearest comforter of the troubled, alleviate our worry and sorrow with your gentle love, and grant us the grace and strength to accept this burden. Dear God, we place our worries in your hands. We place our sick under your care and humbly ask that you restore your servant to health again. Above all, grant us the grace to acknowledge your will and know that whatever you do, you do for the love of us. Amen.

Please direct your prayer requests to: Andrew “Andy” Robinson Jr. State Health/Welfare/Prayer Chairman Email: [email protected] Phone:503-543-2338

May our prayers help to speed the recovery and help to alleviate the suffering of those sick or in distress. This we ask in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen Page 40 Vol. 112 No. 5 June - July 2016 IN MEMORIAM
