We insist that Catholic colleges and universities either teach the True Faith or cease calling themselves Catholic. We object to any priest treating the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass as his personal possession by adding, changing, or removing any part of the Mass on his own authority.

    September 2, 2002 Dear Friends, In a letter dated December 8, 2001, I revealed that Fr. Carlos Urrutigoity, the founder and former superior general of the Society of St. John, had been dismissed for homosexual behavior when he was a seminarian at the Society of St. Pius X (SSPX) seminary in La Reja, Argentina. In that same letter, I noted that Urrutigoity, after he had been dismissed from the seminary in La Reja, was admitted as a seminarian into the SSPX seminary in Winona, Minnesota, where he was eventually ordained and made a professor. Finally, I further mentioned that Fr. Urrutigoity was subsequently expelled from the seminary in Winona as a result of his subversive activities. My letter left many readers with the same question: How could it be that the SSPX dismissed Carlos Urrutigoity for homosexual behavior from one of its seminaries, but subsequently accepted him into another SSPX seminary, and then ultimately ordained him a priest and even made him a professor there? I put this same question to Bishop Richard Williamson of the SSPX whom I contacted shortly after I learned that Fr. Urrutigoity had been accused of homosexual behavior as far back as his seminary days in La Reja. Bishop Williamson explained to me that Carlos Urrutigoity had indeed been dismissed from the SSPX seminary in La Reja for homosexual behavior, but that he was received into the SSPX seminary in Winona because the key SSPX authorities in North and South American did not believe the charges against him. According to Bishop Williamson (and others within the SSPX with whom I spoke), the charges against then seminarian Urrutigoity were not believed because of a deep division that was then taking place within the SSPX district in South America.

During 1909, Reverend Fr. Servais from St. Patrick’s Parish in Portland held many of the services in the International Order of Odd Fellows Hall in the Dietz building at the corner of East Second and A Streets. According to the Catholic Sentinel, Jan 14, 1909, Rev. Father Servais celebrated mass on the second and fourth Sundays of each month at both Rainier and Goble. From Feb. 24-28, 1909, Fr. O’Brien, O.P. of Portland gave a series of lectures at the I.O.O.F. Hall. The women of the parish were also very active during this year and formed the Catholic Ladies Aid Society. Besides this group, they also formed the Catholic Sewing Society and gave a Christmas bazaar in Dec. 1909. According to The Rainier Review in the Dec. 16, 1909 issue it was “one of the most successful bazaars ever held in this city…Under the efficient management of Mrs. Chas. Clark the bazaar was successfully carried out. Too much cannot be said of the valuable aid rendered by Mrs. Lee, Mrs. B. Clark, and Mrs. Sheerin, while Mesdames Chambers, O’Leary, Werthes and Vogal and the Misses O’Leary, Nema Brough and May Gallagher all assisted materially to make the bazaar a success.     Holy Trinity Catholic Church History Columbia, Pennsylvania In the beginning . The borough of Columbia lies midway between York and Lancaster on the east bank of the Susquehanna River. The community was founded in 1726 and was known as Wright’s Ferry. Later the name was changed to Columbia after the discoverer of America, Christopher Columbus. The early Catholic settlers had to travel to Lancaster, York or Elizabethtown to attend Holy Mass. In the early Nineteenth Century occasionally a priest would come and offer the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass in private homes for the Catholics of Columbia. The first Catholic Church, known as St. Peter's, was erected on Union Street and dedicated on September 12, 1828, by Most Reverend F.P. Kenrick, Coadjutor Bishop of Philadelphia. All Catholics in and around Columbia attended St. Peter’s Church. The earliest Catholic settlers were English-speaking and chiefly were of Irish ancestry. At this early date, this part of Pennsylvania had not yet been formed into the Harrisburg Diocese, but belonged to the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. Between the years 1840 and 1860 there was a great influx of German people into Columbia. This was because chaotic conditions throughout Europe as the aftermath of the Napoleonic Wars. Many German peoples felt that they would cast their lots for a new life in the New World. Those who practiced the Catholic Faith affiliated themselves with St. Peter’s church. The sermons there were in English and many of the newly arrived Germans had difficulty in understanding them. The Most Reverend John Nepomucene Neumann, Bishop of Philadelphia, suggested that the Germans might find it advisable to erect a church for themselves.
