Our Mission Statement Roman Catholic Faithful, Inc. (RCF) is a lay organization, with many religious members, dedicated to promoting orthodox Catholic teaching and fighting heterodoxy and corruption within the Catholic hierarchy. Our Philosophy While we accept the authority of the Holy Father and all bishops in union with him, we will not sit idly by, nor blindly follow, while many in the hierarchy allow the Holy Catholic Church to be torn apart and assaulted by the forces of Modernism, Syncretism, Heresy, and the gross immorality of some of its clergy. As parents and teachers, we will not allow our Catholic youth to be robbed of their faith or have their innocence destroyed in the name of “tolerance”, “ecumenism”, “diversity” or any other politically correct ideology of the day. We object to individuals or groups of individuals being given access to Catholic schools, churches, and Church property to promote any belief, teaching, or idea contrary to Catholic teaching as defined by two thousand years of Tradition and Church teaching. We expect every Catholic priest to follow the disciplines of the Catholic Church as he promised. We expect every bishop to do all he can to safeguard the souls of our children by exercising his authority to ensure proper teaching within Catholic schools and parish religion programs. We insist that Catholic colleges and universities either teach the True Faith or cease calling themselves Catholic. We object to any priest treating the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass as his personal possession by adding, changing, or removing any part of the Mass on his own authority.

September 2, 2002 Dear Friends, In a letter dated December 8, 2001, I revealed that Fr. Carlos Urrutigoity, the founder and former superior general of the Society of St. John, had been dismissed for homosexual behavior when he was a seminarian at the Society of St. Pius X (SSPX) seminary in La Reja, Argentina. In that same letter, I noted that Urrutigoity, after he had been dismissed from the seminary in La Reja, was admitted as a seminarian into the SSPX seminary in Winona, Minnesota, where he was eventually ordained and made a professor. Finally, I further mentioned that Fr. Urrutigoity was subsequently expelled from the seminary in Winona as a result of his subversive activities. My letter left many readers with the same question: How could it be that the SSPX dismissed Carlos Urrutigoity for homosexual behavior from one of its seminaries, but subsequently accepted him into another SSPX seminary, and then ultimately ordained him a priest and even made him a professor there? I put this same question to Bishop Richard Williamson of the SSPX whom I contacted shortly after I learned that Fr. Urrutigoity had been accused of homosexual behavior as far back as his seminary days in La Reja. Bishop Williamson explained to me that Carlos Urrutigoity had indeed been dismissed from the SSPX seminary in La Reja for homosexual behavior, but that he was received into the SSPX seminary in Winona because the key SSPX authorities in North and South American did not believe the charges against him. According to Bishop Williamson (and others within the SSPX with whom I spoke), the charges against then seminarian Urrutigoity were not believed because of a deep division that was then taking place within the SSPX district in South America.

  • Holy Trinity Catholic Church History Columbia, Pennsylvania
Holy Trinity Catholic Church History Columbia, Pennsylvania In the beginning . The borough of Columbia lies midway between York and Lancaster on the east bank of the Susquehanna River. The community was founded in 1726 and was known as Wright’s Ferry. Later the name was changed to Columbia after the discoverer of America, Christopher Columbus. The early Catholic settlers had to travel to Lancaster, York or Elizabethtown to attend Holy Mass. In the early Nineteenth Century occasionally a priest would come and offer the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass in private homes for the Catholics of Columbia. The first Catholic Church, known as St. Peter's, was erected on Union Street and dedicated on September 12, 1828, by Most Reverend F.P. Kenrick, Coadjutor Bishop of Philadelphia. All Catholics in and around Columbia attended St. Peter’s Church. The earliest Catholic settlers were English-speaking and chiefly were of Irish ancestry. At this early date, this part of Pennsylvania had not yet been formed into the Harrisburg Diocese, but belonged to the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. Between the years 1840 and 1860 there was a great influx of German people into Columbia. This was because chaotic conditions throughout Europe as the aftermath of the Napoleonic Wars. Many German peoples felt that they would cast their lots for a new life in the New World. Those who practiced the Catholic Faith affiliated themselves with St. Peter’s church. The sermons there were in English and many of the newly arrived Germans had difficulty in understanding them. The Most Reverend John Nepomucene Neumann, Bishop of Philadelphia, suggested that the Germans might find it advisable to erect a church for themselves.

  • Bishop Bambera's Letter Announcing His Decision to Bar Former Bishop James C. Timlin from Publicly Representing the Diocese Of
Bishop Bambera’s letter announcing his decision to bar former bishop James C. Timlin from publicly representing the Diocese of Scranton: Dear Friends, The Fortieth Statewide Grand Jury Report released earlier this month shared the tragic details of child sexual abuse in the Catholic Church of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania over the past seventy years. The report focused not only on abusive priests, but also brought increased attention to the role of those who enabled such abuse to continue. Thus, I took the unprecedented step of asking the Independent Review Board of the Diocese of Scranton to review how Bishop James Timlin handled allegations and his role in all cases prior to the Dallas Charter in 2002. I recently received a recommendation from the Independent Review Board. As background, the board – comprised of three lay persons, a religious sister and a religious priest – is a confidential consultative body put in place to advise a bishop on the assessment of allegations of abuse. These individuals are highly qualified and equipped to assist me with this decision, as each boasts expertise related to law enforcement, education, counseling or victim advocacy. Their combined experience brings a unique perspective that I simply do not have. Though it is unusual for a sitting bishop to review a prior bishop, I insisted the board use the same process for Bishop Timlin as is used for any accused priest or lay person. I understand that it is unfair to judge past actions against present day standards. However, I also know that the Church could have – should have – done more to protect our children.

Saint Justin Martyr House of Studies (SJMHS) is a corporation in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, the sole purpose of which is to establish the College of St. Justin Martyr (College). The College was to be associated with the Society of St. John (SSJ), a diocesan clerical association of the faithful established by Bishop James C. Timlin in the Diocese of Scranton, Pennsylvania. Beginning in 1998, prior to the incorporation of SJMHS, the SSJ conducted a major fund raising effort aimed at Catholic donors with the stated intent of creating a Catholic village with a liberal arts college. During these fund raising efforts, the SSJ, through its Superior General, Rev. Carlos Urrutigoity, and other SSJ officers, claimed in various advertising venues that the monies raised would be used to support three entities: (1) the SSJ; (2) a Catholic liberal arts college; and (3) a Catholic village.

  • Epiphany 125Th Anniversary Book
History of Epiphany Parish, Sayre Pennsylvania! When Father John Costello was made Pastor of Holy Ghost Church at Athens in 1875, I don’t think he had any idea how much his parish would grow and expand during his 24 year stay in the “Valley.” Holy Ghost Parish included all of Athens Township. What is Sayre today was then Pine Plains, a section of the township, and what became South Waverly was Athens Township. The parish also included Ridgebury and Windham. Father Costello was 28 years old as he began his fruitful success here. In 1878 Sayre became the division headquarters for the Lehigh Valley Railroad. Two years later, the population stood at 800. The repair facility for the Lehigh continued to grow and by 1890 the population had grown to 3,200. With this growth came many immigrants from Ireland, Italy and Eastern Europe, many of them having strong ties to the Roman Catholic faith. And so begins the history of Epiphany Parish in Sayre. On Sunday May 12, 1888 Father John J. Costello, pastor of Holy Ghost Parish in Athens, met with his growing congregation in Sayre at the school house. It was decided to break ground for a new church in Sayre. H. J. Baldwin, of Waverly was hired as the contractor and work on the new church began. Construction seemed to move along rapidly. Three churches were being built in Sayre in 1888, Epiphany, Church of the Redeemer, and the Baptist Church. The corner-stone for the new church was laid on Sunday August 19, 1888.

History of St. John the Baptist Church by Michael W. Navrocki. St. John teh Baptist Church, Larksville, PA 1899-1999. CAP at Orchard Lake. Polish immigration to and settlement in America In the late Nineteenth and early Twentieth Century’s, a multitude of immigrants came to America from Eastern and Southern Europe with the hopes of making a better life for themselves. They left behind family and friends and embarked on passenger steamships, facing the unknown. Ahead of them was an extremely difficult, uncomfortable three-week voyage on the Atlantic seas, which they had to endure to reach their destination. They arrived in the port of New York at Ellis Island, and later in the ports of Baltimore, Boston and Philadelphia as well. Many of these immigrants were Poles who came to the United States in large numbers between 1870 and the eve of the First World War in 1914. Poland, at this time, did not exist in a political sense, for it was partitioned between the Empires of Austria-Hungary, Russia, and Prussia. Poles left their homeland to escape the political and religious oppression of the partitioning powers, or the abject poverty caused by overpopulation and scarcity of land that was especially apparent in the peasant territory of Galicia in the Austro-Hungarian partition. Although one of the earliest Polish settlements in the United States was established in Panna Maria, Texas in 1854, most Poles did not begin arriving in the United States until after the Civil War. Stretching from this period, the largest ethnic group to immigrate to Luzerne County, Pennsyl- vania was Poles.
