Illinois State Fair Unveils First Grandstand Act For

For Immediate Release Contacts: January 29, 2018 Rebecca Clark (217) 558-1546 Morgan Booth (217) 785-5485 ILLINOIS STATE FAIR UNVEILS FIRST GRANDSTAND ACT FOR 2018 FAIR SPRINGFIELD, IL – The 2018 concert season is heating up as the Illinois State Fair Grandstand lineup begins to take shape. The Illinois State Fair is pleased to announce country-rocker Brantley Gilbert will close out the 2018 Illinois State Fair on Sunday, August 19. Critics say Gilbert hides a rock show in a country concert, making it difficult to box this singer/songwriter in with other current county music stars. Gilbert is best known for songs such as, “Bottoms Up,” “Country Must be Country Wide,” “You Don’t Know Her Like I Do,” “One Hell of an Amen,” and “The Weekend.” One of only four country artists with back-to-back platinum certified albums this decade (HALFWAY TO HEAVEN and the 2014 American Music Awards Favorite Country Album JUST AS I AM), Gilbert received a prestigious CMA Song of the Year nomination for penning Jason Aldean’s signature hit song “Dirt Road Anthem,” as well as co-writing Aldean’s hit “My Kind of Party.” Gilbert is currently promoting his #1 country album THE DEVIL DON’T SLEEP through his The Ones That Like Me Tour that has been crisscrossing the nation this winter. “Brantley Gilbert is a well-known artist with a great fan base,” said Acting State Fair Manager Luke Sailer. “We expect BG Nation will be treated to a fantastic, high-energy, in-your-face concert they soon won’t forget.” An opening act for Brantley Gilbert will be announced at a later date. Nancy Alumni Engagement The Office of Alumni Engagement has been traveling across the state over the past few months with President Dan and First Lady Cheri Bradley, the Office of Admissions, and Career Center for the Fall Tour events. Alumni, prospective and current students, and their families have attended events hosted in Indianapolis, South Bend, Fort Wayne, Chicago, Jasper, and Lake County. In partnership with the Sycamore Athletic Fund, the Office of Alumni Engagement hosted Sycamore Receptions surrounding the Gildan Charleston Classic in Charleston, S.C. on Thursday, Nov. 16 and Friday, Nov. 17 at the Hyatt House Charleston Historic District. Business Engagement STEM Road Show The Business Engagement Center has created a S.T.E.M. roadshow that gives K-12 students the opportunity to work hands-on with emerging technologies, such as 3D printers, virtual reality, laser cutters, and drones. The interactive programs are tailored to present technologies that aren’t otherwise available to many educators and students in the Wabash Valley. The Center expects to reach almost 500 students in the first year of the program.

Country Radio Hall of Famer and Red Cross volunteer Dan Halyburton was rec- ognized with the Tom Rivers Award for his generous contributions.
