Robert Deaton
November 21, 2011 Issue 270 Inside The Awards: Robert Deaton Just shy of two weeks since the 45th Annual CMA Awards, Country Aircheck spoke with Executive Producer Robert Deaton for his thoughts on the telecast, how it all came together and several of its memorable moments. CA: You’ve had some time to process the show and maybe decompress. What are your Robert Deaton thoughts in hindsight? RD: A lot of credit needs to be passed around because there are so many people – starting with the artists – who make it happen, but I feel like this was our best effort. Going into the show, what I really wanted to do was not compromise at all with Pub Scouts: EMI Nashville’s Eric Church buddies up with the backstage crowd at last week’s Chief Deconstructed show at Joe’s Pub in Chicago. Pictured (l-r) are any of the performances. I wanted each one to put the artist in the label’s Chuck Swaney and Angela Lange, Church, and WUSN’s Marci Braun, the best possible position. We started working about a month and Lisa Dent and Liz Geerling. a half earlier than we normally do to make each performance’s It is a sensitive issue but, again, I think it goes back to the writing. visuals as good as the music. We wanted every one to stand out, If I had said, “We’re going to do something with Hank,” they and that’s hard to do over three hours, but we really stepped up probably would have said, “Hold on a second,” and rightly so. -
Business Engagement Hulman Center Events
November 2017 Colleagues, On behalf of the Division of University Engagement, I wish you and your family a very happy Thanksgiving. As you prepare for the holidays, I hope you will consider supporting one of our many fine community partners through use of your community service leave or participation in one of the many food or gift drives that will be happening over the next several weeks. The on-going generosity of ISU students, faculty, staff, and alumni makes a difference in the Terre Haute community throughout the year. Thanks for all you do. Nancy Alumni Engagement The Office of Alumni Engagement has been traveling across the state over the past few months with President Dan and First Lady Cheri Bradley, the Office of Admissions, and Career Center for the Fall Tour events. Alumni, prospective and current students, and their families have attended events hosted in Indianapolis, South Bend, Fort Wayne, Chicago, Jasper, and Lake County. In partnership with the Sycamore Athletic Fund, the Office of Alumni Engagement hosted Sycamore Receptions surrounding the Gildan Charleston Classic in Charleston, S.C. on Thursday, Nov. 16 and Friday, Nov. 17 at the Hyatt House Charleston Historic District. Business Engagement STEM Road Show The Business Engagement Center has created a S.T.E.M. roadshow that gives K-12 students the opportunity to work hands-on with emerging technologies, such as 3D printers, virtual reality, laser cutters, and drones. The interactive programs are tailored to present technologies that aren’t otherwise available to many educators and students in the Wabash Valley. The Center expects to reach almost 500 students in the first year of the program. -
Visual Metaphors on Album Covers: an Analysis Into Graphic Design's
Visual Metaphors on Album Covers: An Analysis into Graphic Design’s Effectiveness at Conveying Music Genres by Vivian Le A THESIS submitted to Oregon State University Honors College in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Honors Baccalaureate of Science in Accounting and Business Information Systems (Honors Scholar) Presented May 29, 2020 Commencement June 2020 AN ABSTRACT OF THE THESIS OF Vivian Le for the degree of Honors Baccalaureate of Science in Accounting and Business Information Systems presented on May 29, 2020. Title: Visual Metaphors on Album Covers: An Analysis into Graphic Design’s Effectiveness at Conveying Music Genres. Abstract approved:_____________________________________________________ Ryann Reynolds-McIlnay The rise of digital streaming has largely impacted the way the average listener consumes music. Consequentially, while the role of album art has evolved to meet the changes in music technology, it is hard to measure the effect of digital streaming on modern album art. This research seeks to determine whether or not graphic design still plays a role in marketing information about the music, such as its genre, to the consumer. It does so through two studies: 1. A computer visual analysis that measures color dominance of an image, and 2. A mixed-design lab experiment with volunteer participants who attempt to assess the genre of a given album. Findings from the first study show that color scheme models created from album samples cannot be used to predict the genre of an album. Further findings from the second theory show that consumers pay a significant amount of attention to album covers, enough to be able to correctly assess the genre of an album most of the time. -

As Radio Contracts, Syndication Surges Q&A: Records President
October 5, 2020, Issue 725 As Radio Contracts, Syndication Surges Consolidation, debt load, competing platforms and a pandemic have compounded into furloughs and permanent personnel cutbacks at radio. Arguably, the last several months aren’t as much a cataclysmic transformation as a greatly accelerated evolution. Amid the decline, there does seem to be at least one major growth area – syndication. Country Aircheck spoke with several with new and growing shows in the space for thoughts on the shift and resulting opportunities. “The pandemic has definitely sped things up, as there’s economic pressure everywhere,” says United Stations’ Andy Denemark, whose daypart show Backstage Country is Andy already holding down nights for Beasley Denemark stations. “Network radio has been growing in lots of different ways, and it’s all about Curb Your Enthusiasm: The Curb team celebrates Lee Brice’s resources, meaning that we provide resources two-week No. 1, “One Of Them Girls.” Pictured (top, l-r) are that local stations need.
