POSITION VACANCY NOTICE Department: Information Technology Location: Rockingham Office Job Title: Network Administrator Job Classification: Exempt Position Summary: To design, maintain and support the network infrastructure. To install, manage, and monitor routers, switches, firewalls and other network equipment. To administrate servers and their associated operating software. Coordinates and cooperates with all personnel and persons outside the where the providing of information and assistance will benefit the member- owners of the Cooperative. Reporting Relationships: Reports to - Manager of IT Infrastructure Directs - None Internal Relationships: Other Employees External Relationships: Members and General Public Responsibilities and Authorities: Essential Functions of the Job - Perform all position responsibilities in accordance with SVEC policies and procedures and VOSHA safety rules. It is the individual responsibility of every employee to maintain a current awareness and understanding of appropriate laws, regulations, internal policies and procedures, and to comply fully with those laws, regulations, policies and procedures. High level of concentration on accuracy, timeliness, flexibility, reasoning, ability to prioritize and maintain confidentiality. Installs, maintains and manages routers, switches, firewalls, wireless access points, hubs, modems and any other equipment that comprises the local and wide area networks. Investigates and resolves network communications and usage problems. Provides technical expertise for information technology projects involving and including integration of desktop resources with Cooperative servers and computer systems. Researches and evaluates technology and makes recommendations to supervisor when hardware and software should be upgraded to enhance efficiency and cost savings. Provides backup to Security Administrator to review and audit network security. Administrates and maintains servers in a virtualized environment as well as standalone. Provide support of the Exchange server by performing daily administration, testing, and applying patches and updates, and ensuring high availability. Monitors server logs, firewall logs, and network traffic for unusual or suspicious activity. Interpret activity and make recommendations for resolution. Manages reliable and comprehensive server backups. Maintains the Cooperative’s internet connection to ensure reliability and integrity. Maintains high level of software knowledge to provide application training and support. Assists with basic operational aspects of the IBM mid-range server. Network Administrator shall have full authority to carry out the duties and responsibilities of this position in conformity with established policies and procedures. Network Administrator should remember that he/she is accountable to his/her supervisor and the of the Cooperative for the efficient performance of these responsibilities. Though some of the authorities may be delegated or assigned to another person, the accountability cannot be. Job Requirements (Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills): Knowledge - A thorough knowledge of rural electrification and Cooperative principles. Abilities and Skills - Leadership ability and the ability to motivate peers toward goal achievement. Strong verbal, written, analytical and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated problem-solving skills. Must be able to perform job responsibilities in a timely manner within established guidelines under minimal supervision. Must be able to stay current on changes to all areas for which this position has responsibility. Must be able to use office equipment including telephone, computer and other mechanical office systems and related software in the performance of position responsibilities. Must be able to maintain professionalism and control under all circumstances. Has and maintains valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record and be able to operate SVEC vehicles. Must become and remain certified in CPR and first aid. Must also be skilled in the use of all safety equipment. Must pass physical exam, drug & alcohol testing initially; drug/alcohol test randomly. Must be able to install, configure and test network hardware. Must be able to assess network performance and make necessary changes to resolve problems and enhance performance. Must be able to assist with and troubleshoot network cabling projects such as wiring, jacks, punch blocks, hubs, network interfaces, etc. Shall be required to maintain confidentiality of information. Must be well organized, be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing and carry out delegated duties with a minimum of supervision. Must have access to reliable transportation to and from work. Educational Requirements - Associate Degree in Computer Science/Information or 5 years related experience and/or training or equivalent.
