Responsible for:

The Network Administrator is a member of the Information Technology (IT) Department. The primary role of this position is to install, configure and maintain the ’s servers, network operating systems, end user computers and other IT-related technologies critical to operations. In addition, this team member will support the end-user in a variety of issues related to PC software and hardware, system security, network performance and LAN/WAN systems. The Network Administrator will also research technology options, interface with vendors and provide technology solutions to support requirements and also provide support and maintenance of the cooperative’s WAN and fiber network.

Key Accountabilities & Duties:

Broad Scope

 Respond to inquiries and requests for assistance by end-users with the cooperative’s IT systems and end-user computers.  Identify problems, troubleshoot and provide advice to assist users with use of their system and its proper function within the .  Install, configure and maintain the cooperative’s servers and end-user computers.  Ensure proper operation of all of the cooperative’s servers and network equipment. Proactively monitor and maintain systems to ensure system reliability.  Configure and install new servers when needed. Ensure that the proper back up and recovery methods are in place for any new equipment installed.  Continually monitor patches and continuously research patch levels that are available.

Position Description Investigate potential vulnerabilities to ensure that the cooperative’s systems are secured.  Assist in maintain the cooperative’s firewall, VPN, web filter, intrusion detection software, and email filter and virus protection to ensure security and protection of the cooperative’s systems.  Ensure that there are proper recovery methods in place and that the systems can be restored should equipment fail. Participate in the cooperative’s business continuity drills.  Maintain the cooperative’s Citrix environment ensuring proper patches as well as system availability.  Support the cooperative’s telephone system and ensure that vendor billing is properly accounted for.  Document procedures and processes used related to the local area and wide area network.  Manage the performance of the cooperative’s LAN and WAN equipment.  Troubleshoot, repair and recommend for replacement computer hardware.  Perform operating system upgrades and installations.  Serve as the liaison between vendors and end user departments to resolve software or hardware issues that may arise.  Write instructions for users to describe PC operating procedures and new deployment of applications or security systems.  Assist in the creation and maintenance of a detailed inventory for all server related hardware.  Assist in the creation and maintenance of a detailed inventory for software and license compliance.  Review security issues with the other IT staff (and inform the Manager of Infrastructure and Security Systems) to ensure data integrity and accuracy.  Strictly enforce all copyright laws as they regard to copying, distribution, and use of software as stated in software license and EU Electronic media policies.  Keep current with technology trends and maintain skill set to implement new technology.  Observe all safety rules and regulations adopted by the Cooperative.  Observe all work rules adopted by the Cooperative.  Maintenance and support of the Cooperative’s fiber network  Assist in maintaining Linux/UNIX systems

Specific Focus

 Maintenance and support of the LAN  Maintenance and support of the Cooperative’s WAN.  Assist end users with the implementation of new equipment within the department and procedures related to the use of the new hardware or software applications.  Maintain and enhance efficiencies within departments by providing additional software capabilities.  Attend conferences and training as requested by the Manager of Infrastructure and Security Systems.  Keep abreast of current technologies and offer recommendations related to the use of updated technology.

Position Description Reports To: Manager of Infrastructure and Security Systems and is accountable to him/her for results achieved.

Internal Relationships: The Network Administrator shall maintain internal relationships necessary to achieving the above departmental results.

External Contacts: Must maintain relationship with vendors to ensure that hardware/software issues are resolved, future hardware direction is identified and supported environments are kept up to date. Shall maintain necessary job related external contacts to assure satisfactory results.

Authority: The Network Administrator is authorized to take any actions necessary to carry out the responsibilities delegated to him/her so long as such action does not deviate from established corporate policies and is conducted with sound business judgment. The exceptions to this authority are limited by the discretion by the Manager of Infrastructure and Security Systems.

Accountability: The Network Administrator is accountable to the Manager of Infrastructure and Security Systems for achieving agreed upon results in each area of this position. Results (performance standards) to be developed by the Systems Specialist II and approved by the Manager of Infrastructure and Security Systems. In Addition, the Manager of Infrastructure and Security Systems may provide goals each year.

Position Specifications for:

EDUCATION – Must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology or related experience. Education may be substituted with additional experience. In addition, must have 1 to 3 years of experience working as in an information technology department supporting networks and assisting users.

EXPERIENCE - Experience working with internet firewall and filtering technologies – Real Secure Network and Surf Control software preferred and Experience working with internet firewall and filtering technologies – Real Secure Network and Surf Control software. Must have experience with published Citrix applications and with telecommunications, frame-relay communications and data-channel .

KNOWLEDGE - Programming knowledge to create and support web technology used within the cooperative. Must have working knowledge of PC applications including Microsoft Office 97 & 2000/3/7/10, MS Outlook, MS Project, Visio, MS SQL, and Windows client operating systems.

ATTITUDE - Must have a positive, open mind and considerate attitude toward the responsibilities of the position. Must be a self-starter. Must have an attitude of neatness, orderliness and accuracy toward the job. Must possess a very conscientious attitude toward systems and data management.

PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS - Must be of high moral integrity, pleasing personality and possess good personal habits. Must be in good physical shape and mental health. Must be neatly groomed and dressed. Must be able to project a good public image. Must possess characteristic of confidentiality.

ABILITIES AND SKILLS - Must have ability to implement project plans, make sound decisions from observations and carry out instructions. Must possess database management skills. Must possess business machine and PC skills. Must have a valid North Carolina driver’s license with good driving record. Must be able to work with minimum supervision. In depth knowledge of LAN/WAN topologies and concepts and an in-depth knowledge of PC applications. Must have the ability to support end users and communicate effective resolutions to their issues. Must have strong interpersonal and communications skills.

WORKING CONDITIONS - Normal working conditions and hours of 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Some irregular working hours may be required. The duties of this position are primarily performed in an office environment or computer room with travel required as necessary to the position.

EQUIPMENT AND MACHINERY OPERATED - Motor vehicles, PCs, Servers, CIS mainframe/server hardware, and customary office and business communications equipment used in the position.

GENERAL PHYSICAL ACTIVITY AND DEMANDS - Lifting and moving of weights in excess of 50 pounds is infrequent, but occasionally required. Good hand to eye coordination is required as to read printed materials and operate office machinery.

WORK REQUIREMENTS - Must possess and maintain a valid North Carolina driver’s license. Should reside within the Cooperative’s service area; if outside the service area, not more than twenty statute road miles from an operational office or be willing to relocate.

SAFETY - Performs all assignments safely assuring compliance with all Safety related rules, regulations and policies.
