Beetles, wood louse, flies etc) Beetles , flies etc use this room all the year. Beetles use it nights and winter, keeping them relatively safe, they live from eating leaf louse. 2 Bees (z.B. Wasps, and assorted bees) The hollow reeds make opitmal places for wasps and bees to over winter. The tubes make especially good places for the young larvae to hatch and grow 3 Butterflies (z.B. and various similar creatures) This design lends itself for shelter in bad weather and in winter. The sheltered hollow space makes good environment for rest and care 4 Wasps, The various species of wasp fall into two main categories, solitary and social wasps. Solitary wasps live alone and do not contruct nests. All adult wasps are fertile. Social wasps live in colonies and build nests. 5 Ladybirds ( Coccinellidae) These are a family of beetles ranging from 08 to 18mm. They are commonly yellow, orange or scarlet with small black spots. They favour natural materials. Their main source of food is the leaf louse. This habitat is suitable for them to over winter in WHERE TO PLACE YOUR INSECT HOTEL The best place to stand your insect hotel is in a sunny place , sheltered from wind and rain. The height sholud be above 50cam from the ground level The open side should be south facing. You can place them on a patio etc. Make sure they are not disturbed by pets or young children. You should leave the hotel to weather naturally and leave it in the same place winter and summer so as not to disturb the "guests". D114815#2 3 INSTRUCTIONS Insect hotel-cleaning and care Should you clean and care for an insect house yes or no Whilst this question often comes up , please read the following An insect hotel or home should be made from natural materials without any manmade finish. In nature the insects choose natural materials without any chemical coatings such as varnish or paint. This is say places that do not have any chemical smell. If you need to clean youur insect hotel use use only clean natural water. In truth you will should not ever need to clean the hotel. In time it will take on a natural grey ,silver patina. If you really want to protect your hotel you can use a natural beewax, olive oil or sunflower oil to keep it natural and not put off any of the insects. The entrance to the insect hotel should not be disturbed, the insects will keep this free themselves Sometimes larvae lay for 6 months before they emerge. So you must not worry about them being in closed space and not being able to survive. Insect hotel cleaning and keeping it free from spiders webs Spiders eat insects. For this reason they make spin their webs in the flight path of insects, the entrance to the insect hotel. This means freshly emerging insects can make a ready meal for a hungry spider .To hinder this keep your house free from spiders webs, more is not necessary As a rule you do not have to change the filling in your insect hotel. However if for one reason or another , the wind or other small animals may take some of the filling, this being the case and it should be topped up.To do this you can also use dry twigs, and the soft inners from the stems of blackberry , raspberry or hedge roses for your nest 4 D114815#1.
