1 A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING MISS 2 BLACK 2016 ROBIN Y. JACKSON FROM JACKSON, MISSISSIPPI, 3 WHO PLACED SECOND RUNNER-UP AT THE 48TH ANNUAL NATIONAL MISS BLACK 4 AMERICA PAGEANT. 5 WHEREAS, we honor Robin Y. Jackson, Miss Black Mississippi 6 2016. Robin is 22 years old and currently attends Jackson State 7 University, where she will be graduating with a Bachelors Degree

8 in Political Science. She was born and raised in Jackson, 9 Mississippi. Robin has been blessed with a wonderful support 10 system of family, friends and church members; and 11 WHEREAS, as Miss Black Mississippi 2016, Robin competed in 12 the 48th Annual National Miss Black America Pageant held in 13 , , on August 20, 2016. She placed in the 14 Top Three as Second Runner-Up and also received the Miss

15 Positivity Award. This is an award that is voted on by the 16 contestants and provided to the contestants who are the most 17 positive and uplifting, the most friendly, helpful, encouraging, 18 genuine and outgoing, and who have pleasant dispositions. 19 Receiving this award is an honor; and S. No. 533 *SS01/R172* ~ OFFICIAL ~ N1/2 17/SS01/R172 PAGE 1 (tb\rc) 20 WHEREAS, Robin has served in various leadership positions at 21 Jackson State University: Miss Freshman 2012-2013, Miss Sophomore 22 2013-2014, NAACP Secretary 2013-2014, Miss NAACP 2014-2015, 23 Essence of a Lady Tiger, Vice President 2014-2015, and Student 24 Government Association Community Service Director 2016, and she is 25 a member of The Word Center; and

26 WHEREAS, she served as Miss Black Hinds County under the 27 Platform "Beautiful Minds, Beautiful People" advocating the 28 importance of mental health and self-esteem awareness. She has 29 also engaged in many speaking opportunities around the country 30 including , and Louisiana; and 31 WHEREAS, the Miss Black Mississippi Pageant is part of the 32 Miss Black America Pageant Organization. Founded in 1968 by J.

33 Morris Anderson, the Miss Black America Pageant was an opportunity 34 to celebrate women of color, who were not widely represented in 35 the Pageant. Miss Black Mississippi 2016 Robin 36 Jackson is a textbook in self-esteem. Robin hopes to visit 37 Jackson Public Schools in the near future and encourage young

38 girls that it's ok to "be natural and confident." She is also 39 looking to organize a conference centered on empowerment; and

40 WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize this 41 talented young Mississippi citizen who has brought honor to her 42 family, her community, her university and to the State of 43 Mississippi:

Jackson from Jackson, Mississippi, who placed Second 48 Runner-Up at the 48th Annual National Miss Black America Pageant, 49 and extend our best wishes for success during her reign and in her

50 future university and career endeavors. 51 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to 52 Robin Y. Jackson and her family, forwarded to the President of 53 Jackson State University and made available to the Capitol Press 54 Corps.
