Schluchzende mexikanische Mariachis, verdrossene schottische Dudelsackspieler, traurige westafrikanische Trommler und zahlreiche andere von Kummer betroffene Ensembles konkurrieren - während die Welt am Radio zuhört... Inhalt Es ist die Zeit der Weltwirtschaftskrise und der Prohibition in den USA. 1933 wird Winnipeg (Kanada) zur traurigsten Stadt der Welt gekürt und die lokale Chefbrauerin Lady Port-Huntly (Isabella Rossellini) wittert Profit. Sie ruft einen internationalen Wettbewerb aus: Welches Land hat die traurigste Musik der Welt zu bieten? Neben einer Krone aus gefrorenen Tränen und jeder Menge Bier, wird es dabei um fabelhafte 25.000 „Depression-Era-Dollars“ gehen. Musiker von nah und fern reisen nun nach Winnipeg, um ihre Darbietungen vor der Jury zu präsentieren. Der sowohl schmierige als auch gescheiterte Broadway-Produzent Chester Kent (Marc Mc Kinney) sieht in dem Preisgeld seine Chance auf Sanierung. Begleitet wird er von der entrückten Narcissa (Maria de Medeiros), die auch für ihn im Wettbewerb singen wird. Mit Lady Port-Huntly verband den Zyniker vor langer Zeit eine Liebesbeziehung, von der nur noch eine Mischung aus Verlangen und Hass übrig geblieben ist. Nun gilt es sie wieder zu erobern, zumal sie in der Jury sitzt. Auch Chesters Vater Fyodor (David Fox), ein einstiger Chirurg, der sich als Straßenbahnfahrer durchschlägt, war der Lady verfallen und vertritt im Turnier Kanada. Zum Wettbewerb reist auch Chesters älterer Bruder Roderick (Ross McMillan) an, um als serbischer Cellist „Gavrillo der Große“ mit all seinem Schmerz das Requiem für seinen verstorbenen Sohn zu intonieren, dessen Herz er in einem Glas stets bei sich trägt. Nach dem Tod des Jungen war seine Frau spurlos verschwunden. Spätestens wenn der schwermütige Roderick auf der Bühne seine verlorene Frau an der Seite seines verhassten Bruders wiedererkennt, wird das Ausmaß der Verstrickungen deutlich. Doch wer kann Lady Port-Huntly schlussendlich zum Weinen bringen und The Saddest Music In The World zum Besten geben? Es ist eine Art musikalischer Globalisierung, die Musiker aus der ganzen Welt mit ihren traurigsten Melodien zusammenbringt. Es ist aber auch das Zusammentreffen zweier ungleicher Brüder und ihres Vaters, deren Schicksale durch zwei Frauen miteinander verwoben sind. Das Wiedersehen kulminiert schließlich in einer Katastrophe, die jedoch eine Erlösung für einen von beiden Brüdern in sich birgt. Festival Main Title The main title gets more boring every year. All of the Festival posters this year have someone holding a film frame in front of them through which one can see the background. This image is transferred to the screen with a woman on a long wooden bridge whose rails and posts suggest/become frames on a film. By the second day, I was seriously bored with this, and astounded that the Festival has only prints of this with overexposed and out of focus titles. The only time I saw it properly was at digital projections. Universal Studios’ salute to the volunteers, on the other hand, was always warmly received even though it’s seen over and over again because the audience really appreciates the work the volunteers (and the Festival staff) do to make this whole thing possible. People’s Choice Trailer AGF has three trailers and one poster this year, all based on the concept that a character is trapped in a job other than his/her true desire. · The Poster: A teacher who would rather be in the movies has Dick, Jane and Spot in screenplay format on her blackboard. · A Private Eye really wants to be a director/cinematographer, and critiques his surveillance of a tryst while, presumably, the tearful husband watches on a camcorder’s monitor.

    KASI LEMMONS A proven talent as an actress, director and writer, Kasi Lemmons continues to creatively tantalize with each and every project she takes on. Lemmons' work as an actress includes roles in Jonathan Demme's Silence of the Lambs opposite Jodie Foster; John Woo's first American film, Hard Target; Rusty Cundieff's parody of the rap music industry, Fear of a Black Hat; Candyman with Virginia Madsen; the Spike Lee produced Drop Squad opposite Eriq La Salle; and Vampire’s Kiss with Nicolas Cage. Lemmons' first feature-length film, Eve’s Bayou, became the highest grossing independent film of 1997. El concert tindrà lloc el divendres 24 d’octubre, a les 21 h, a l’Auditori Nacional d’Andorra. Pájaros eternos és el seu tercer disc i el primer escrit i compost majoritàriament per ella. L’àlbum, que va sortir a la venda l’any 2012, ha estat gravat als Estudis Eureka, propietat del músic i productor Fernando Vacas. El disc compta amb la col·laboració de grans músics de diversos àmbits, com els percussionistes Edmundo Carneiro i Rubem Dantas, el bateria Donald Edwards, el guitarrista de flamenc i blues Raimundo Amador i el baixista Foto: Victor Hugo Dominique di Piazza. També hi participen músics de jazz com Ximo Tebar o els francesos Pascal Salmon i Didier Goret al piano, Ricardo Feijão al baix i el guitarrista i compositor de blues The Legendary Tigerman. Pájaros Eternos-El concierto es va estrenar a Madrid el 7 de febrer de 2012 al Teatro Bellas Artes, amb The Legendary Tigerman com a artista convidat.
