Confrontational Torah George Brock

Part I of IV: Methods

Confrontational Torah is confronting people with the Torah without becoming confrontational. Most Noahides came out of Christendom (which is worshipping creation as the Creator). The divorce was not easy for most.

This can be compared to a bamboo rod that is bent. If you bend the rod until it is straight, it will return to its fallen state. You must bend the rod the same distance the other way to straighten the rod. This becomes the premise for the way we confront people with the Torah.

Confrontational Torah uses a four step process: Identify, fi nd the opposite, use the opposite to overcome, and then learn how to balance the two opposites. Before we can consider the fi rst step, we need to remember that the teaches that you must accept the King before you can receive the Kingdom. People must know who God is, 4 NOAHIDE NATIONS who man is, and know the difference or they will just substitute their created god for the one true Creator. Identify can be compared to a map, you have to know where someone is before you can help them get to where they need to go.

The answer to every question and every problem is: it depends. What does it depend on? It depends on where you are looking from. This becomes the fi rst step of identify. The fi rst thing we teach a person is to identify where they are. We start this process with an aphorism, “It is not what you are looking at, but where you are looking from.” The second thing we need to know is where they are in their thinking. Levels of thought can be described in human terms -- an “adult” (someone who is led by reason and logic), a “child” (someone who is led by emotion), or an “infant” (someone you cannot communicate with).

Humor is the third way a person can be taught to identify. Example: Two intellects are at a river, one on one side, the other on the other side. One looks both directions and, seeing no bridge, shouts across to the other, “How do you get to the other side?” The other looks both directions and says, “You are on the other side!” Again, it is not what you are looking at, but where you are looking from.

The fourth way we teach the importance of identifying the situation is through a parable. Example: Parable – Why WitnessWhy Witness This is Thisthe story is the of story the twoof the greatest two greatest archers archers in in all of Japan.all of Japan. They grew They up grew together up together and were and were best friends.best friends. The historical search for ELOKIM HaSheM then walked’ in Eden and was calling: in Nature “Adam, where are you?”

The Torah presents ELoKiM in an awesome way, Of course, ELoKiM knew well where Adam and mentioning His Name 32 times in just a few verses Eve were. Yet He called them, to let them know of the Story of Genesis. The number 32 hints that that He was searching for them. ELoKiM is the ‘heart’ of Nature (the word heart in Hebrew, Lev, carries a numerical value of 32.) Hence ELoKiM did not create the Universe and It reminds me playing hide and seek with my young left it to its fate. ELoKiM, rather, is inside every daughters. He would seek ELoKiM in the Oceans and the Dry Land, in the Mountains and in the Valleys, like the Canaanites, Greek, the American Indians and practically all cultures on earth has done. He would even seek the CREATOR in Earth itself, worshipping it as a goddess called Maya, recently resuscitated in America. But Adam would fi nd out that ELoKiM is not there. And all that journey historical Adam would hear ELoKiM calling him to fi nd Him, to get closer to Him. “Adam, here I am!” ELoKiM would keep calling.

Now Adam would looks farther away from him, into things created as remotely as the Second Creational Day. Adam would look at the Waters Above in Space, in Comets, and would ask, “Are you hiding there, my CREATOR?” And in his enthusiasm, Adam would be allured into worship these things in Space rather than his true CREATOR. But ELoKiM would call: “Search for me, Adam, I am here!”

And in his progress, Adam would be able to seek ELoKiM in things made on the First Day, at the BEGINNING. Adam would look at Chaos and Order, at Light and Matter, at Black Holes and White Holes, at exploding Novas and even at the Big Bang itself. “Are you there, my CREATOR?” Adam would ask and would be tempted, very much so, to worship these things in lieu of his true CREATOR.

Only now would Adam realize that his entire journey was in error, and that his true CREATOR has been, and always be here in every creature of Nature. Only when Adam realizes this, his historical IDOLATRY trial would end and the Eternal Sabbath would enter our world.

Kosher. A word I did not grow up hearing often. I do remember my Granny sometimes buying kosher pickles. But, that was the extent of my knowledge about anything kosher. Pickles. Not a very solid background for someone who is now known as “Kosher Bubbie” by her children, grandchildren, and friends.

For many years I did not know that G-d has an interest in what people eat or don’t eat. From reading Proverbs 23:21 I realized that it is wrong to be a glutton.

For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty... KJV Bible

For the guzzler and the gorger will be poor... Stone Tanach

It was not until early in the year 2000 (when I was 45 years old) that I came to the realization that G-d DOES care about, not only how much I eat, but WHAT I eat. That day was the beginning of an amazing journey for my family and me.

I am excited about the opportunity to share some of the things I have learned with others who have also come to the realization that this is an important issue for Noahides as well as for Jews.

And I look forward to sharing kosher meals with you in years to come as we continue on our journey to live holy lives in this transmigration, Baruch Hashem!

Rabbi Baruch S. It is a natural human expression to share with friends, family, and co-workers ones thoughts, feelings, and experiences. In our society as in many others, there are boundaries as to what is proper or improper to discuss. Subjects like faith and belief are among the highest of these tabooed topics. It is the intent of these articles to explore the boundaries, with the hope that we may broaden or even eliminate these boundaries in order to do Kiruv (bringing close) for all those who are around us to the beauty and truth of Torah.

Noahides from western cultures may feel uncomfortable with approaching others with their views of Torah, due to the stigma associated with their experiences of religious groups knocking on their front doors. The above picture shows a group that gathered for a photo on the last day of this truly remarkable event. The one most apparent aspect of this historic conference was the feeling of homecoming. There were Noahides from all over American and one amazing lady from Britain, who may have never spoken to each other before the conference, that were huddled together in groups through out the conference during the breaks, laughing and sharing stories as if they were talking to family members that they have not seen for years. It was obvious that the 2008 Noahide Nations World Conference was a family event. A family of who shared the same love for HaShem and His Torah. A family that shared the same respect for each other, as well as, for the Rabbi’s who attended. Feelings of fellowship and unity fi lled the air as one of the largest and most infl uential group of Rabbi’s and Noahide leaders ever gathered for a Noahide conference.

Each and every speaker at the conference did an outstanding job with conveying their wisdom and knowledge in Torah and Halacha for Noahides. One of the most generous acts came from Rabbi Tovia Singer. Rabbi Singer for months had planned to speak at this conference, unfortunately at the last minute circumstances arose where he could not attend. Instead of canceling and just leaving it like that, Rabbi Singer went to the trouble to make a prerecorded lecture just for this conference. He placed this special message on two hundred CD’s with cases, labels, and beautifully designed covers. This attitude of ‘above and beyond’ was displayed by all the Rabbi’s that were in attendance as well. Many traveled long distances Above: Crown of the High Priest is an artifact for the opportunity to speak at this Noahide conference. created for use in the Third Temple by the Temple It was truly humbling to witness their commitment to the Institute. Rabbi Chiam Richman of the Temple Mound Institute blessed this conference in a very special way with one of the most beautiful treasures imaginable. Rabbi Richman brought one of the most valuable and signifi cant items of the Temple, the crown of the High Priest.

At the 2008 World conference the Noahide Nations organization gave out two every beautifully crafted awards to two every deserving people. The fi rst was the Noah Award, which went to Dr. Vendyl Jones for a lifetime of achievement in the Noahide movement. The second was the Tzedakah award, which went to Jon Voight (the actor) for his many acts of generosity. Although, it was an unplanned event that made Noahide history, Rabbi Yeshayahu HaKohen Hollander, Rabbi Chiam Richman, and Rabbi Yoel David Bakst were seated in a Brit Din in order to administer a pledge to the seven

To see the joy on the faces of all those who took this Noahide pledge holding up their signed documents was the crowning event of this wonderful conference. One question I get asked quite often is how I came up not wanting to think that this was the sign I prayed for with the idea to create the Noahide Nations organization the day before. No rain, no clouds to speak of and it’s and in particular the web site that has so much to sunny out; this isn’t happening, not to me! In an uneasy offer Noahides? The simple answer is that I did not state I turned back to continue reading the parsha and have the original idea that was all HaShem’s doing. said to HaShem, “your going to have to do better than HaShem’s idea was to provide a place for the Noahide that”!
