Textile Library Hangzhou together with the St. Gallen Textile Museum hold, for the first time, an exhibition in China. It is a creative carnival of internationally renowned designers and artists combining the classical and contemporary lace craftsmanship. Together with a number of brands, the exhibitors show the diversity of fashion elements with lace and demonstrate how those delicate designs and aesthetics go with everyone’s daily life. The visitors is offered a unique artistic and cultural experience.

Charlie Chaplin is the founder of modern comedy, one of the most influential performing artists and film directors of the 20th century. His comical image with bowler hat, bamboo cane and small moustache is well known and deeply rooted worldwide. The recipient of a Special Oscar in 1928 for The Circus and an Academy Honorary Award in 1972, Chaplin made an immeasurable contribution to the development of film in the 20th century. He himself was a famous pacifist and social activist.

Charlie Chaplin spent the last 25 years of his life on the sunny plateau above , Switzerland. Chaplin’s last home, the 37-acre estate, Manoir de Ban, in the small Swiss Riviera town of Corsier-sur-Vevey, where he lived from 1953 until his death in 1977, has been restored and refashioned into a museum, Chaplin’s World, which includes an immersive cinema museum devoted to his professional achievements.

Presented in chronological order, Charlie Chaplin. A Vision aims at helping us better understand the modernity of Charles Chaplin and of his timeless character by shedding a new light on their deep humanism. Who was Charles Chaplin? What had he seen of this world and how did it influence his art? What was he trying to transmit to us? How did the world and especially the artists of his time perceive the man and ? How is he perceived by modern artists? The exhibition explores the reasons for his success, those that brought about and nourished his critical fortunes, and measures the role that the photographic image played in the prosperity of the legend. Dorj and his heavily pregnant wife Suren live an idyllic nomadic life on the Mongolian steppe, but as Suren develops complications during childbirth, the local doctor advises them to ven-ture into the capital city to seek medical attention. With no official documentation they find themselves unable to cover the medical fees and Dorj must pawn their wedding belongings before signing up to a local karaoke contest. A heart-warming and feel-good road movie about the clash between nature and the urban world, Out of Paradise is as much a love story as a reflection on our modern ways of living.

About the director, BATBAYAR CHOGSOM

Batbayar Chogsom was born on 2 June 1974 in Mongolia and emigrated to Switzerland at the age of 26. After completing a basic programme in journalism, in 2012 he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences from the University of Zurich. He went on to work as an archivist in the National Museum Zurich’s graphics and historical photograph collections. He is married, has two children and lives in Rapperswil in the canton of St. Gallen. “Out of Para-dise” is Batbayar Chogsom’s debut film.

Claude Diallo Solo The Swiss Jazz Pianist and Composer is back in Asia

Swiss jazz pianist and composer Claude Diallo is no stranger to Asia. Regularly performing with his trio Claude Diallo Situation and with local talents since 2007, he has visited Hong Kong, China Mainland, Japan, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Taiwan and Korea. With his original compositions and re-arranged jazz standards he mesmerizes the audience around the globe. This June he is set to perform at two stages in Hong Kong and at three clubs in China Mainland, ready to stun the audience with his dynamic and tender sound.

Claude Diallo was born in St. Gallen, Switzerland, in 1981. Inspired by Oscar Peterson’s fiery music, the young pianist found his passion in Jazz. Between 2004 and 2006, Claude Diallo completed his bachelor degree in Performance at the renowned Berklee College of Music. During his studies in Boston, he had the extraordinary privilege of learning from the late Charlie Banacos, one of the best jazz educators of our time. In 2007, Claude Diallo moved to New York City, where he earned his master degree from Queen`s College in 2008. He is a passionate piano teacher himself.

The Brass Quintet is a chamber music group of Swiss musicians, who met during studying at the Geneva Conservatory. Eager to create a close-knit musical unit and being particularly attracted to chamber music, they formed the ‘Geneva Brass Quintet’ (GBQ) with the aim of sharing their passion with the public. Well-known in Switzerland, the GBQ has already performed at the Sion Festival, St- Germain concerts in Geneva and the “Guilde romande de la musique de chambre” (French- speaking Chamber Music Guild), as well as at prestigious venues such as the Victoria Hall and Saint Peter’s Cathedral in Geneva. The Geneva Brass Quintet regularly plays for various Swiss radios. Since their debut in 2001 they have toured the world and are now back in South Korea and China.
