Route 1: Xintiandi

Shanghai Xintiandi is a famous tourism spot that records the historic style of Shanghai and combines architectural features of both western and eastern design. Compared with the narrow streets in , the streets in Xintiandi are more spacious, silently showing its inclusiveness and expressing the old stories underneath. Xintiandi is divided into two parts. The north block is constructed based on the original residence, while the south block mainly consists of modern architecture. There are also diverse variety of restaurants, commercial buildings, recreational facilities and cultural museums arranged neatly and orderly on the pedestrian street. In the meanwhile, the site of the first national congress of the Communist Party of China is also located there. Visitors who are interested in this part of the history are welcomed to visit. Tour itinerary: Visitors will walk along the historic lane, listen to the in-depth introduction of the layout and architectural features of Xintiandi, as well as the process of its ingenious transformation from a historic to a fashion trendsetter.

Route 2: Xujiahui and Mathematics

Xujiahui is named after the famous mathematician (also known as Seu Kwang-ke) in Ming Dynasty and has already became one of the main central business districts in Shanghai. The buildings here have witnessed the development of modern culture in Shanghai and even in China. Not only the earliest and most comprehensive library is located here, but the which was reconstructed from the original Shanghai Film Studio is also in this area. Route itinerary: Visitors will firstly go to the Guangqi Park and Xu Guangqi Memorial Hall, and then visit Shanghai Film Museum.

Route 3: Nature and Art

Jing'an Park is located in the east of Jing’an district and is the only specialized sculpture park in Shanghai. In addition to enjoy creative from home and abroad, visitors can also learn the traditional gardening concepts and modern gardening techniques in this public park. The Shanghai Natural History Museum in the park is one of the largest natural museums in China, which looks like a huge nautilus shell from the outside and has a building area of 45,086 square meters. The Museum has more than 290,000 exhibits in total and takes “Nature·Human·Harmony” as the theme and aims to lead visitors to explore the mystery of the origin of life through the three main lines as "the movement of evolution", "the picture scroll of life", and "the epic of civilization". Route 4: Historic area on North Sichuan Road

As a part of the “Bund historical and cultural area”, North Sichuan Road is located at the west-central of . It is one of the 64 roads listed by the Shanghai Municipal Government that will never be widened and it remains the original road width since the concession era. What’s more, there are more than 60 old residences of historical celebrities still retained in this area, which contributes to the strong cultural atmosphere around this region. Tour itinerary: Visitors will enter from Lu Xun (also known as Lu Hsun) Park and visit Luxun Memorial Hall and Luxun Tomb in turn. After that, visitors will then go to the National Anthem Exhibition Hall to visit the 6 main exhibition halls such as the National Anthem Birth Hall, the National Anthem Memorial Hall, and the National Anthem Shock Hall.

Route 5:

The China Art Museum which is located on the World Expo Axis is the famous China Pavilion in the 2010 Shanghai Expo. The exterior of the museum is very eye-catching and unforgettable, not only because of its jumping red wall but also for its bracket design. The shape of the China Art Museum draws on the concept of the tripod culture in Xia, Shang and Zhou dynasties and incorporates the oriental philosophy of “the harmony and coexistence between man and nature”, to express the splendor of China. Tour itinerary: Visitors will enter the China Art Museum and visit not only the artworks representing the forefront level of creation, but also the modern artworks of various countries that exhibiting together with other world-renowned art museums.

Route 6:

As one of the most important transportation hubs, People’s Square is absolutely the landmark and core of Shanghai. The most famous sightseeing spots here are the Shanghai Museum and Road Pedestrian Street. Both the exterior design of the round dome and square base and the displayed treasures of the Shanghai museum reflect the wisdom and philosophy of ancient China, while the Pedestrian Street is always one of the most well-known landmarks in Shanghai. Tour itinerary: Visitors will enter the Shanghai Museum and visit three characteristic exhibition halls, including ancient museum and ancient museum. After that, visitors can take a look on other exhibition halls and stroll along the Nanjing Road Pedestrian Street in the free activity hour.

Route 7: The cruise on the Huangpu River

Huangpu River, also known as Huangxiepu or Chunshen River, is a world-famous landmark of Shanghai, separating the city into two parts, Pudong and . Being regarded as the mother river of Shanghai, the Huangpu river is 113 kilometers long and 300 to 770 meters wide. It runs through over 10 districts of this city and carries Shanghai people’s memory of historical development. As the most unmissable scenery, on the west bank consists of historic buildings in western styles while Binjinag Avenue on the east bank has a collection of high-rise modern buildings. Tour itinerary: Visitors will take a cruise to enjoy the scenery on both sides of the Huangpu River, then stroll around the core area of the bund in Puxi to learn more stories behind the buildings.

Route 8: Yu Garden and Shanghai Old Street

Yu Garden was originally a private garden in the Ming dynasty, which was build in the period of Jiajing and Wanli and has a history of more than 400 to 500 years. The former owner of this Jiangnan classical garden is Sichuan government officer Pan Yunduan, who invited the famous gardener Zhang Nanyang to make the design and spent 20 years to complete the construction. usually call Yu Garden as Chenghuang Temple, where they’d like to take family and friends to stroll around from time to time. Although the Chenghuang Temple in different cities has similarities, Yu Garden in Shanghai is especially impressive because of the zigzag bridge and exquisite garden landscape. Route 9: Modern historical buildings in Shanghai

Wukang Building is the first veranda style apartment in Shanghai, which has caught attention for its architectural style of the French Renaissance since it completed construction in 1924. It later became a popular tourist attraction due to its nickname: “the thinnest building of Shanghai”. Like Xintiandi, Tianzifang was also reconstructed from the traditional Shikumen buildings, what is different is that the residents living in Tianzifang contribute to create a mundane and intimate atmosphere when compared with the fashion but distant Xintiandi. Walking across the labyrinth of alleys, visitors will encounter a variety of distinctive shops and art workshops and feel the harmonious coexistence of art and life. Tour itinerary: Visitors will first look around the exterior of the Wukang Building and listen to the wonderful stories between Shanghai and the architect Laszlo Hudek, then go to Tianzifang and experience the alley culture.

Route 10: Shanghai in old times - Sinan Mansion

Adjacent to Fuxing Park, Sinan Mansion is the name of an elegant community consisting of more than 50 garden villas on Sinan Road and covers an area of about 50,000 square meters. As a part of the French concession, this is the place where the upper class settled and converged in the 1920s. A large number of former residences of modern historical celebrities can also be found here, include Zhou Mansion. Through the centuries-old cedar, the sunlight kisses the Spanish-style garden house and creates a quiet and secluded atmosphere. Tour itinerary: After visiting the core area of Sinan Mansion, visitors will enter inside the Zhou Mansion to continue with the tour.

Route 11: Historic and Modern Architecture

The alongshore areas of Creek were the initial economic and cultural development centers of Shanghai. It is not exaggerated to say that they raise almost half of the populations in old Shanghai. In the process of being an international metropolis within the last 100 years, Suzhou Creek is always considered as one of the most important water areas of Shanghai. The downstream of Suzhou Creek, the part that close to the sea is called "Hudu", which is the source of Shanghai's abbreviation "Hu". The historic constructions along the creek are highly recommended, especially for those who want to know more about the ’s development. Tour itinerary: The tour will start from 1933 Old Millfun, where the twisted corridors scattered high and low in the building and make visitors feel like wandering in the labyrinth. Next place is the Shanghai Foursagade, visitors will enter the concrete building through the old iron gate and look for the past stories under the rusty textures.

Route 12: Guangfulin Relics Park

Guangfulin, formerly known as Huangfulin, located 6 kilometers northwest of , was the cultural and economic center of the Eastern Wu dynasty. It is reported that the aborigines of Songjiang came to the Guangfulin area about 6000 years ago and thrived in the form of a patrilineal clan community. Until 4000 years ago, the first immigrants from the Yellow River basin came here and created the Guangfulin culture together with the aborigines. Therefore, there is a saying in the local folklore that “Guangfulin culture appears earlier than the Songjiang history, while the Songjiang history appears earlier than Shanghai history”. From then on, the Guangfulin site is thus regarded as the root of Shanghai’s history and culture. Tour itinerary: Visitors will enter the Guangfulin Relics Park and walk into the exhibition space underneath the water, to visit the fascinating collections.

Route 13: An old Watertown - Zhujiajiao

Zhujiajiao is located in of Shanghai, closes to Scenic Area. As a typical ancient water town in the south of the Yangtze River, it is also called "Pearl stream" and is the best-preserved ancient town among the four ancient towns in Shanghai. There are waterways crisscrossing the streets and alleys and old bridges across bubbling streams, while small rivers shaded by willow trees and houses with courtyards, which bring people who have been living in the modern big city back to a brand-new world full of antiquity, leisure and tranquility. Tour itinerary: After arriving at Zhujiajiao, the tour will start at the Kezhi Garden and the Post Office of Qing Dynasty, then visitors can freely stroll the ancient town and enjoy the graceful beauty here. (Kezhi Garden was built by gathering the best designs of Jiangnan gardens, so it’s also considered as the bright spot of Zhujiajiao)

Important Tips

1. Tour cost is included in the conference registration fee (physical attendance). 2. There are in total 13 routes. Tour cost includes bottled water, lunch, tour guide, transportation, travel insurance and admission fee. 3. Each route will be operated only when at least 40 visitors joined and signed. Route might be adjusted if the signed visitors are not enough. Each route has maximum number of visitors and we follow the principle of “first come first serve”, so your soonest booking is highly recommended. 4. Tour buses will depart on time. Please arrive 20 minutes prior to the departure time. Punctuality at pick-up point is required. Please note that badge is required to get on the bus. 5. Please wear your badge throughout the whole excursion. 6. If there are irresistible incidents, organizers may change or adjust route plans, please refer to further announcement.
