Nicolas Parola

The Nicolas Parola shop is a traditional workshop with each maker crafting their own instruments by hand. We believe these to be among the best violins, violas and cellos available today. The handwork is superb and the skill of the craftsman is extraordinary. The Luthiers are very focused on making quality instruments in the traditional way. The best quality materials are used and each instrument is hand graduated according to the characteristics of the tone wood. Stefan Petrov The shop of Stefan Petrov continues to offer wonderful instruments that are replicas of the old Italian masters. They are finished to perfec- tion with a warm, rich, clear, hand-rubbed varnish and special antiquing. Their tonal qualities are exceptional as is their playability. Stefan Petrov now offers three levels of violins and two levels of viola. The Workshop model uses quality aged materials and is made by a promising apprentice under proper supervision. The Standard model uses highly figured, well aged loft seasoned tone wood. The bulk of the hand work is completed by an apprentice. It is then hand graduated and varnished by the master maker. The Superior model is made completely by Master Petrov. European tone woods are hand selected for their intrinsic tonal qualities. The instrument then receives a lightly antiqued hand oil varnish. This year Petrov is making a limited number of his standard instruments out of European tone wood. These instruments are identified by the EURO indication on their labels.

Keith, Curtis & Clifton The shop of Keith, Curtis and Clifton continues to make some of the most affordable and best European instruments available today. We recognize that some of the shops with whom we do business prefer to do their own setups. If your shop falls into that category, you can take advantage of the additional discount we offer for instruments shipped without setup. One thing you can always count on, there are no hidden or extra charges to receive an instrument that is ready to play or sell. Below you will find some details about the choices you have for setups and what you can expect when buying an instrument that is not setup by us. Factory Setup For most instruments a factory setup will include: • Bridge, sound post, steel strings, tailpiece and pegs. With this setup we do not go over the instrument, check its adjustments or do any cleaning/polishing. You get the instrument just as it was when it came out of the shop/factory. This is a great option for shops that like to do their own setups. The additional discounts we offer enable them to offset some, if not all, of the inhouse setup costs.

Standard Setup • Includes a properly cut and fit bridge and soundpost, strings of choice, tailpiece and properly fitted pegs. We go over the instrument for proper playability, sound and fitment. Instruments are set up, polished and ready to play. This is a typical option for shops wanting the instruments ready to play. High end instruments or those wanting top grade bridge blanks and special attention should option for Profes- sional setup. Professional Setup We take great pride in our hand work and make certain every instrument that leaves our shop is carefully and precisely setup for playability and sound. We start with a general overview of the instrument, taking careful measurements for the pattern and size of the instrument. We do final fitment and adjustment of the pegs, install the strings of choice, cut and fit a professional bridge (Despiau two tree blank or similar) and adjust the string length and tailpiece to achieve the proper proportion and harmonic balance. Final setup includes assuring the proper dimensions throughout and making certain the string height is appropriate and/or within customer specifications. Additionally, sound post and tuning adjustments are done before each instrument is play tested. Our most skilled luthiers do a final post and sound check in order to assure that every instrument is playing to its full potential. The result is a professionally setup instrument that is sure to please the player for balance, tonal qualities and playability.

Choice of Strings Our agreements and volume with the major manufacturers of strings enables us to not only offer you the very best in professional setups, but also to offer them with any string you are likely to need...all at a very cost effective price. 6 Ametto The Ametto factory specializes in entry level student violins and violas. These instruments are some of the best quality for the inexpensive price, but is still not considered a quality instrument by traditional methods of making. The CV100, CV150 violins and CA100 viola are the best that we have seen for the money. We rec- ommend these instruments when price is the most important factor in the buying decision. Made in China. Ametto Violin and Viola Outfits

The CV100 violin and CA100 viola by Ametto are fully carved for good tone at an economical price. Solid spruce tops, maple backs, ribs and necks. Fittings are dyed hardwood, except for the CV150 which has ebony fingerboard and pegs. The 100/150 series come with an integrated fine tuner tailpiece, lightweight shaped case and a wood horsehair bow. The varnish is shaded and has an attractive antique look.

Popular Upgrade Options - Ametto or H. Luger

Depending on the make, model and instrument, there are a number of affordable upgrade options that will in- crease the playability of these student level instruments as well as enhance their tonal qualities. These include a string upgrade to the brand of your choice for enhanced sound, an upgrade from a shaped case (CV100, CV150 violins and CA100 viola) to a lightweight oblong or other case, and a bow upgrade to a H. Luger Brazilwood horsehair bow (300 and 500 level instruments include the H. Luger bow upgrade as well as the carbon fiber tailpiece with integrated fine tuners) or CFX carbon fiber bow.

H. Luger The H. Luger shop specializes in student level step-up instruments such as the CV300 and CV500 violins, as well as the CA300 and CA500 violas and the CC100, C500 cellos. All are hand carved from loft seasoned tone woods. The primary difference between the 300 and 500 instruments is in the grade of tone wood use. The 500 uses maple that is highly figured and has a hand-rubbed varnish, while the 300 instruments have some figuring and an antique shaded varnish. H. Luger instruments represent some of the best value in the student market today with nice handwork, very good tone and ease of playability. Made in China. H. Luger Violin and Viola Outfits The CV300, CV500 violins & CA300, CA500 violas by H. Luger are a step up from the economical Ametto instruments. They are fully hand carved and graduated for consistency and great tone. The tops are made from solid, straight grain spruce and the back, sides and neck are made from nicely flamed maple (the CV500 has a highly flamed maple back). Further, these instruments have ebony pegs and fingerboards. We also upgrade to a full carbon fiber tailpiece with integrated fine tuners and swap out the factory bow with our popular H. Luger Brazilwood bow. The outfit includes a lightweight oblong case with a blanket and lots of storage. Luger Cello The H. Luger shop makes two excellent cellos. The first is the CC100 which is designed to meet the needs of an entry level student. The second is the C500 which is a nice step-up instrument. Its back is highly flamed and the hand rubbed varnish creates a great look while enhancing its sound.

H. Luger CC100 Entry Level Cello Outfit H. Luger CC100 cello is fully hand carved. The top is from solid straight grain spruce. Its back, sides and neck are made from aged maple. The fittings and fingerboard are ebony. The CC100 outfit includes our popular H. Luger Brazilwood horsehair bow and a backpack style bag case. H. Luger C500 Cello Outfit

The C500 cello by H. Luger is an excellent step up instrument. The top is hand carved from solid spruce that is nicely grained. The fingerboard and pegs are made from premium ebony. The varnish is had rubbed and has great clarity, which allows the natural beauty of the highly flamed maple show through. We upgrade the tailpiece to our full carbon fiber version with four integrated fine tuners for years of trouble free use. The VB100 is an economical entry level fully laminated bass. It has a dyed hardwood fingerboard and is built to stand up to the rigors of travel and proactive playing. KCC R31V and R32V Violin Outfits The KCC R31V is a step up instrument that builds on the solid foundation of the 100 and 103. The tone wood used to make R31V and R32V are aged about six years and are more select. More time is taken in the making and better wood is used so finer graduations are possible. The R32V uses a more select portion of the well aged tone wood. Us- ing more select woods justifies the additional time spent in the graduation process.
