The Lickey Incline and Tardebigge Flight (12¼ miles) The walk starts at Stoke Works, criss-crosses the railway uphill with an easy stroll back down the canal towpath. In dry weather only sensible footwear is needed. The link-paths can become muddy and overgrown making boots and trousers sensible at other times. Bring a telephoto lens with your camera. Roadside parking available near start point. There are car parks at Aston Fields and Tardebigge Church. Most public houses will allow walkers to park but please check. Between 1791 and 1815 men toiled to link the Severn at Worcester with Birmingham by canal. In doing so they created the Tardebigge Flight with 30 locks, the longest in the UK followed by a tunnel of 580 yards. Between 1838 and 1841 navvies linked Gloucester and Birmingham by rail. In doing so they built the Lickey Incline - generally regarded as the steepest main line gradient in Britain - 2½ miles at 1 in 37. In two places the walk follows the long distance Monarch’s Way. The future King Charles II fled north after the Battle of Worcester (1651) to Madeley, Shropshire before coming south through Bromsgrove to Stratford, Charmouth and Shoreham The towpath is not a public right of way but the Canal and Rivers Trust allows walkers access. 1. Stoke Works - In 1812 salt was discovered during the building of the canal. In 1825 and 1828 two works developed which, following various financial and technical problems, came under the control of John Corbett, the Salt King in 1852 and 1858. He built an industrial village, including the village school, now converted to dwellings. -

JICA PREPARATORY SURVEY ON GREATER CAIRO METRO LINE NO. 4 4.3.2 Existing Standard for Fire Fighting and Management of Metro The characteristics of the fire accidents are indicated in the preceding section. According to the type of tunnels, the standard/design guideline for fire accident management is regulated by some countries taking these characteristics into consideration. On the other hand, the countries which do not have tunnels and underground stations blindly use or apply other country’s standard/design guideline. As a result, the scale of the tunnel and station becomes more excessive than its requirement in some cases. In order to apply appropriate measure and method, the present conditions of standards/guidelines for metro construction/operation in the world are explained in this section and some points of these standards are studied in the following section. (1) NFPA 130 (USA) NFPA 130 which is the “Standard for Fixed Guideway Transit and Passenger Rail Systems” is the standard of USA for the design of the metro. It is widely used in countries which do not have their own standard/regulation and it has strong influence in other countries. So far, this standard is applied for the metro in India, Singapore, etc. NFPA 130 is one of the strictest standards and it could not be often applied for the old metro which was constructed before NFPA 130, which was established in 1983. If this standard is applied strictly, the structure of the tunnel and station tends to be bigger and the cost of the construction also tends to be higher. -

There was a presentation by Sergeant Ram Aston on “We don’t Buy Crime/Smartwater Protected Towns and Villages”. The safety scheme involves the Parish Council working in partnership with West Mercia Police and Crime Commissioner on the provision of Smartwater Kit to each household within the Parish Council Area. The cost of the kit will be purchased by the Parish Council however 25% of the cost will be subsidised by the Police and Crime Commissioner who will also supply appropriate warning notices to be displayed within the Parish area. 3.
