Academy Board of Trustees member Peter Tichansky, who serves as president of the Business Council for International Understanding (BCUI), recently presented the award to Schoenfeld in a ceremony held at Times Square in New York City. Regarded as one of the world's leading strength and fitness experts, Schoenfeld is a lifetime drug-free bodybuilder and advocate of natural bodybuilding who has won multiple natural bodybuilding titles. Through his research, writing and speaking, he has expanded global awareness and knowledge of health and fitness. The Academy’s Dwight David Eisenhower Fitness Award is presented to a person who has shown outstanding individual or cumulative achievement in fitness and has contributed to the growth and development of sport fitness through outstanding leadership activity. President Dwight David Eisenhower founded the President's Youth Council on Sport and Fitness. This national committee served as the catalyst to the nation's fitness movement, and Eisenhower’s work is evidenced by the number of “physical fitness tests” being administered today to American youth. Schoenfeld is considered one of the leading authorities on body composition training, which includes muscle development and fat loss. The 2011 National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) Personal Trainer of the Year has worked with numerous elite-level physique athletes, including many top professionals. He is a best-selling author of multiple fitness books including “The M.A.X. Muscle Plan,” widely referred to as the “muscle-building bible;” “Strong and Sculpted;” “Science and Development of Muscle Hypertrophy;” “Sculpting Her Body Perfect;” “Look Great Naked” (Los Angeles Times bestseller and #1 on Amazon.com); and the “Women's Home Workout Bible.” Schoenfeld has appeared in such publications as Shape, Self, Fitness, Ladies Home Journal, Redbook, Cosmopolitan, Marie Claire, Woman's Day, Fit, The New York Times, New York Daily News, Gannett Suburban Papers, The Washington Post, Chicago Tribune, Oxygen, Musclemag, Ironman, Muscle and Fitness Hers, and many others. He is a columnist for Muscular Development Magazine and serves as a regular fitness expert for numerous popular websites. He has appeared on over 100 television shows including FOX Newschannel, CNN Headline News, CBS Evening News, UPN News, Good Day New York, Good Day LA, CBS New York Live, NBC Live at Five, and Today in New York, as well as hundreds of radio programs. Schoenfeld is widely regarded as a “trainer of trainers.” He is an assistant professor in the exercise science department at Lehman College in the Bronx, N.Y., where he directs the human performance laboratory. He was previously a faculty and board member at the American Academy of Personal Training in New York City, a vocational school for fitness trainers. Schoenfeld is president of Global Fitness Services, which provides fitness consulting to institutions as well as producing the Scientific Muscle Newsletter and the Lookgreatnaked.com website. He is a popular lecturer, providing seminars and workshops in over 20 countries. Schoenfeld received his bachelor’s degree in business administration from Pace University, his master’s degree in kinesiology/exercise science from the University of Texas and his Ph.D. in health promotion and wellness at Rocky Mountain University, where his research focused on the mechanisms of muscle hypertrophy and their application to resistance training. He has published more than 90 peer-reviewed scientific papers. He is a member of the board of directors for the NSCA and is assistant editor-in-chief for the NSCA's Strength and Conditioning Journal, as well as serving on the editorial advisory board for the Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition and the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research. He is a certified strength and conditioning specialist by the NSCA and achieved a fellowship with the organization. He has achieved multiple certifications as a personal trainer, including the NSCA, American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), American Council on Exercise (ACE), Aerobics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA), and CanFitPro. The IDEA Health and Fitness Association has named him a “master trainer.” The Dwight David Eisenhower Fitness Award is part of the United States Sports Academy’s Awards of Sport, which each year serve as “A Tribute to the Artist and the Athlete.” The Academy presents the awards to pay tribute to those who have made significant contributions to sport, in categories as diverse as the artist and the athlete in several different arenas of sport. The awards honor exemplary achievement in coaching, all-around athletic performance, courage, humanitarian activity, fitness, and media, among others. The Academy’s American Sport Art Museum and Archives (ASAMA) annually recognizes these men and women through its Sport Artist of the Year, Honorary Doctorates, Distinguished Service Awards, Medallion Series, Outstanding Athletes, and Alumni of the Year awards. Based in Daphne, Ala., the United States Sports Academy is an independent, non-profit, accredited, special mission sports university created to serve the nation and world with programs in instruction, research, and service. • The Law Firm Barasch Mcgarry Has Provided Consistent Advocacy for Workers, Students, Residents and First Responders Who Have
The law firm Barasch McGarry has provided consistent advocacy for workers, students, residents and first responders who have become seriously ill from exposure in Lower Manhattan to 9/11 toxins. Having advocated for over 10,000 who are already sick, some still awaiting 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund (VCF) certification, the firm’s statistical database contained findings of a dangerous medical anomaly. It found at least a 1,000% higher male breast cancer cluster, among men exposed to the air in Lower Manhattan. Armed with these alarming facts, Butler Associates deployed a strategic communications campaign that reached many millions via network television, radio, print, digital and social communications. Butler Associates began conducting research, shaping narratives and interviewing men stricken with or recovering from the exceptionally rare form of cancer. The men spoke passionately of having to overcome the “macho stigma” of contracting what they always understood to be a disease impacting women. That stigma often results in denial and men often wait until it is too late to seek medical diagnosis and treatment. According to medical findings, only about 1-in-100,000 U.S. males will ever be stricken by breast cancer. Given a total estimated 9/11 community reaching just 400,000, this suggests that at the maximum, only four cases, if every single member of the 9/11 community were of the male gender. At the launch of the campaign, prior to the 17th anniversary of the September 11 attacks, the group consisted of 15 men. The victims participating agreed to tell their own personal stories of discovering their illness, the stages of denial, fear and delay in seeking medical help, eventual acceptance, treatment and the importance of emotional and peer counseling to help with their recovery.

  • “We Have Breaking News” the First Plane
CHAPTER 1 “We Have Breaking News” The First Plane “‘Man, he’s really low’” Eric Shawn, Senior Correspondent, Fox News Channel, New York Since the morning was so bright and crisp, I caught a bus down Fifth Avenue instead of taking the subway. I thought I would be spend- ing the day investigating a new and curious development with TWA Flight 800. It had been five years since a fuel-tank explosion brought the plane down just off Long Island, but a nagging mystery had sur- faced, which I intended to investigate. After I got off the bus on Fifth Avenue near Fifty-first Street, I heard the echo of a jet—louder than usual, closer than expected. Its 7 8 “We Have Breaking News” sudden appearance caused a few of us on the street to crane our necks toward the sky. It was heading south. As the plane passed over me I thought, “Man, he’s really low.” “Loud, low, and very determined” Tom Flynn, Producer, CBS News, New York As I sat in my garden in Greenwich Village, having coffee, reading the paper, ready to go to work, I heard what seemed to be an airplane. It was loud, low, and very determined. You know the sound of a plane that’s trying to save itself: it whines and screeches. There was none of that with this plane. “Sounded really close” Joan Fleischer, Account Executive, WINS-AM, New York I was up on the roof of my six-story apartment building in Tribeca with my dog. I was really relaxed, peaceful, sort of daydreaming, soak- ing up the rays, and enjoying this time when I heard an incredibly loud plane that sounded really close.
