Andy ensured that the background to the raid and relevant detail was fully understood, allowing the mentors to communicate this to the students. The key to the mentoring programme was Mission Command – set the objective, establish the guidelines, then let the schools go from there before finalising the briefs to be delivered at Waddington. The mentors faced challenges in balancing their primary work commitments with equally busy teachers and school timetable requirements. They then had to maintain oversight of the school teams to make sure they were achieving the objectives.
