Comparative national data are also provided. The main source of the Pennsylvania data was an annual survey of Pennsylvania colleges and universities. Individual tables and figures provide information on: (I) average undergraduate in-state tuition and required fees by institutio'al category, 1985-86 through 1994-95;(2) average annual increase !- undergraduate in-state tuition and required fees, 1985-86 through 1994-95;(3) average combined room and board charges by institutional category, 1985-86 through 1994-95;(4) average annual increase in room and board charges, 1985-86 through 1994-95; (5) average basic student charges by institutional category, 1994-95; and (6) average undergraduate basic student charges in four-year institutions, United States, Pennsylvania and selected neighboring states, 1993-94. Appendices provide additional information on basic student charges, tuition and required fees for first-professional programs, and student charges by control of institution and state. Also provided are a glossary and notes on data sources and nonrespondents. Nonrespondents F-1 OVERVIEW This publication provides information about the cost of attending Pennsylvania colleges and universities.It lists the tuition and required fees for undergraduate, graduate, and first-professional programs, as well as room and board charges by institution.In addition, historical data by institutional category for the past 10 years is provided for those interested in knowing the trend of these changes and how it compares with the average cost of living index during the same period. National data by ;tate, as well as 3 graphic presentation of these costs for the selected neighboring states, compares how Pennsylvanio ranked in relation to these states. These statistics have proven to be of interest and value to prospective cullege-bound high school students, guidance counselors, educational researchers, legislators, media representatives, business leaders, and other interested individuals. The source of this data is an annual survey of Pennsylvania colleges and universities. National data was drawn from the results of a survey conducted by the U. S. Department of Education, National Center for Education Statistics (NCES). Consumer price indices were obtained frum the U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics.
