WARRINGTON market showed it was "out of this world" for Christmas shopping when it organised a Christmas market in the town centre streets to support the St Andrew's Day Festival celebrations taking place in the town. Market customers were entertained by a Doctor Who lookalike as he was chased around the market and town centre by a couple of Daleks seeking to take over the world. Over 100 market traders took part in the event which attracted large crowds throughout the day. Many of the regular indoor market traders went outside for the day joined by invited guest traders, while over 30 specialist vintage traders put on a Christmas market of their own inside the event hall of the market.     From Supernanny to Gilmore Girls, from Katie Price to Holly Willoughby, a MOTHERS ON wide range of examples of mothers and motherhood appear on television today. Drawing on questionnaires completed by mothers across the UK, this MOTHERS ON MOTHERS book sheds new light on the varied and diverse ways in which expectant, new MATERNAL READINGS OF POPULAR TELEVISION and existing mothers make sense of popular representations of motherhood on television. The volume examines the ways in which these women find pleasure, empowerment, escapist fantasy, displeasure and frustration in popular depictions of motherhood. The research seeks to present the MATERNAL READINGS OF POPULAR TELEVISION voice of the maternal audience and, as such, it takes as its starting REBECCA FEASEY point those maternal depictions and motherwork representations that are highlighted by this demographic, including figures such as Tess Daly and Katie Hopkins and programmes like TeenMom and Kirstie Allsopp’s oeuvre. An assessment of what has been done so far is vital to considering what the goals of addressing the past might be, what future developments are useful or required, and what kind of mechanisms might successfully be employed in achieving those goals. DEALING WITH THE PAST IN NORTHERN IRELAND Christine Bell* INTRODUCTION The term "transitional justice" has increasingly been used to consider how governments in countries emerging from deeply rooted conflict address the legacy of past human rights viola- tions.' While the term has a pedigree dating back to the Nuremburg Tribunals, three contemporary factors have reinvig- orated interest.2 The first factor is the prevalence of negotiated agreements as the preferred way of resolving internal conflicts. Premised on some degree of compromise between those who were engaged militarily in the conflict, these compromises affect whether and how the past is dealt with. The island, originally two small marshes, was developed during the mid-1920s by David P. Davis, who had made his fortune selling Miami real estate. By 1929, after Davis’s death and the collapse of the Florida land boom, most construction on the island had ceased, not to resume until the late 1930s. It is now a large and fashionable residential area.
