SCNA Newsletter for January 2013 Page 3 of 10 OTHER NUDIST NEWS NUDIST REPS MEET WITH SANTA BARBARA COUNTY OFFICIAL ABOUT LOCAL BEACHES 12/5/2012 – Gary Mussell (past SCNA president) and Walt Stephens (AANR-West GAT Chair) had a meeting this afternoon with Eric Friedman, the Exec Assistant to Santa Barbara Supervisor Salud Carbajal, whose First District covers Carpinteria and Bates Beach. Gary, Walt, and Sonya met with him three years ago about re-opening the nude section of Bates Beach, and he expressed support after hearing our presentation about the positive economic impact the beach would have on the south county. We then will begin the hard part of convincing 2 of the 4 remaining supervisors to vote to change the law (to provide a 3-2 majority). Our previous meetings with Supervisors Wolf and Farr indicated don’t mind the beaches being there as long as they didn’t have to go on record and vote for them. If the answer is no, then our only recourse to get Bates Beach back, and to secure the survival of both Mores Mesa Beach and Gaviota Beach as nudist sites, is to go through the courts with some test cases to overturn the law. Stafford-Loibl of Internaturally has announced her company has ceased publishing its quarterly Naturally Magazine, effective with the current Fall 2012 issue. Her husband, Bernie Lobil, died last September 7 of cancer, and the letter we received states: “Without Bern, I can’t publish.” “He was the angel on my shoulder, the elf in the middle of the night, and the man who still made it perfect. N84, our fall issue, was the last one he worked on with me, and I feel good leaving you with that.” Bern was a contemporary of Lee Baxandall, and helped lead the battle to establish the nude status of Gunnison Beach at Sandy Hook, N.J. in 1982. Although publishing competitors, Sherry said they remained friends until Baxandall’s death. Naturally Magazine described itself as being “about people who enjoy being nude, with stories and pictures of nude living and recreation from around the world: nudist parks, nude beaches, clothes-free resorts, and at home.” Each issue was a travelogue which focused on the pictorial experiences of nudist tourists visiting nudist locations.

HOW TO RSVP AND PAY FOR SCNA PARTIES AND ACTIVITIES Non-Members who are interested in coming to one of our events must first attend one of our Meet-up dinners, be invited by an SCNA member (who are responsible for the actions of their guests), or be a card-carrying members of either AANR or The Naturist Society (on a space-available basis). Because we provide a safe, family-friendly environment at our activities, SCNA reserves the right to screen any or all non-member guests through the Megan's Law national database and FBI felony arrest database before the event. To encourage payment in advance, we have instituted a $5 surcharge for people who reserve during the last 48 hours because in the past too many people RSVP without paying and then just don’t show up after we buy the party supplies. Payments by cash or check are accepted, but we prefer you pay by credit card through our on-line PayPal (you don’t need a Pay Pal account yourself to use ours). We accept MasterCard, VISA, Discover, and American Express through our Pay Pal system. Party cancellations are also accepted no later than 48 hours before the start of the event because that is when we buy the party supplies and food. No Refunds are given after that deadline. Thank you for understanding. SCNA Newsletter for January 2013 Page 10 of 10
