The Entlebuch region lies between Lucerne, Interlaken, and Bern. It is the first Biosphere Reserve in Switzer- land that follows the Sevilla Criteria. The Entlebuch Biosphere is rated as the Number One Natural Park in Switzerland, not just for the peace and relaxation in its untouched area, but also for the numerous various activities it offers, such as mountain biking, Kneipp’s hydrotherapy, hiking, and golfing, just to name a few. The region is also known for its history and cultu- ral heritage. Goldwashing, coal burning works, or the «Stairs to your Soul» in the Pilgrimage village of Heiligkreuz could be some of the highlights of your visit, according to «The Biggest Book of the World» - Entlebuch. The region had an resurgance following its acceptance to the Unesco Biosphere Reserve in 2001. Regional spe- cialities as well as quality are valued over and quantity. The liaison between agriculture, businesses, farming, tourism, hospitality, and educational institutions will lead to synergies to a partnership for the future. After all, «Echt Entlebuch» means «The Best of the Region» and is a label for products that follow very strict rules and regulations regarding their methods and ingredients of production. The brand «Echt Entlebuch» guarantees the consumer a high quality regional product. The majority of the companies that carry the «Echt Entlebuch» label even open their doors to the public for tours of their premises. See you soon! INTROCUCTION The contest application by UNESCO BIOSPHERE ENTLEBUCH was checked from 3rd to 8th December 2008 on behalf of the Institute for Tourism and Development (Studienkreis für Tourismus und Entwicklung e.V.). The statements on concept and objectives of the project could be verified without difficulty. Conclusion: The expert in charge recommends awarding UNESCO BIOSPHERE ENTLEBUCH with the TO DO! 2008 at ITB 2009. 2. About 43% of the Entlebuch are covered by forest, 18% of the area are alpine pastures in the Alps, 30% can be used for agriculture, but only 0.8% for cultivation. Only 2% of the area are populated. Just about 17,000 people live in the eight municipalities of the biosphere reservation1, about 0.25% of the Swiss population.
