CLAWTON CLARION December 2018 CLAWTON CLARION December 2018 Welcome to the December 2018 edition of the Clawton Clarion. Another year is coming to a close and it has been a busy one for us all! Thanks to all who have contributed to the Clawton Clarion which has certainly grown in size this year – keep those contributions coming. Clawton and the surrounding parishes have lots of events this month to celebrate Christmas, so please come and join in. We are always looking for more people to help and participate in the events to keep Clawton the vibrant community that we know and love, and to maintain our village facilities. Don’t forget, the Clawton Clarion is about YOU and YOUR COMMUNITY. In order to get the January 2019 edition of the Clawton Clarion printed and delivered before Christmas, please send any contributions for the next edition by 13th DECEMBER 2018 [email protected] or call me, Judi Graham: 01409 271265 If you would like to receive the Clarion electronically, send me your e mail address. There are to be changes in the way we minister around the parishes, therefore from January 2019 there is to be a new pattern of services which mean that there will no longer be a service every week in St. Leonard’s, Clawton. The new pattern of services reflect the need to spend time and build up relationships between the Church family of this Benefice, through worshipping together and getting to know people within the ‘family.’ You will notice that there will be services on Wednesdays, Saturdays as well as Sundays giving greater flexibility to everyone. As to what happens after May 2019 , that will depend on you and your willingness to be the hands and feet of Jesus, to serve one another here and in the wider community. Wishing everyone in the Parish a very Happy, Healthy and Peaceful Christmas and New Year. Blessings, Rev. Jane December 2018 Sunday 2nd 10-30am St. Leonard’s Holy Communion (Rev. We particularly wanted to tell the village about the school lottery as we have numbers left to sell and the first draw is at the end of the term at Christmas. We have 3 draws a year (one each term) with £100 prize pot each draw. Contact details Kirsty Dunkin 07779333637 The Oaks - opposite the school. 3 4 Clawton Parish Council News The next meeting of the Parish Council will be held in the Parish Hall on Monday 7th January 2019at 7.30pm. All are welcome to attend. Please send any matters for the attention to the Parish Council to the parish clerk, Sally Whitehead via [email protected] Minutes and Agenda are available on our village web site: www.clawton.org.uk Report from Chairman – Paul Grafton Armistice Service and Tea We all assembled at the War Memorial then repaired to the hall for the second part of the service and a tea. We raised £65 for the Royal British Legion. Many thanks to everyone who contributed goodies towards the tea, who helped install the bunting and set out tables and chairs and who manned the kitchen serving tea and washing up. We’d also like to thank Katherine Smith who designed the two Armistice figures and the poppies displayed by the village noticeboard and Dave Newbury who cut out and painted them. Village Website We’re working on making sure the website has all relevant information and is fully up-to-date. Part of this process is getting Google to index it. We have a new shorter address – www.clawton.org.uk – but the old one still works. Any organisations who would like to expand their entry to show meeting dates and times, officers, contact details and any photos please email [email protected]. If a nominated person would like the details of how to change their content Paul is happy to provide the login and password and a brief guide to editing the site. Clawton village announcements Many Congratulations to Fraser and Alice Daw who welcomed the safe arrival of Lillibeth Grace on Sunday 11th November. Goodbye to Colin and Jenny Burton who have left Clawton for a new life in Herefordshire. We will miss you and wish you well. Welcome to Mr and Mrs Wheadon and family who have moved into Cholditch Barn. 5 Parish Hall News – From Maralyn Bailey – Chair Thanks to everyone who helped in any way at the Wine and Wisdom event in October. A profit of £390 was raised towards the Hall tarmac project. The committee are grateful to Torridge, Tetcott Community Fund, and Pete Watson's Local councillor fund. We now have enough funds to get the tarmac project under way. We are awaiting the plumber to update the sink. Once this is done, our dish washer will be installed. Our electrician will be installing a new exterior light along with the supply for the defibrillator unit. The defibrillator will then follow soon after. Progress has been a little slow but we are achieving our aims. I would also like to give thanks to Cheryl for the knitted poppies she made for our tribute to the fallen, which I am hoping to place in the church. Made in two shades of red as I had a slight hand in the making of them. Don’t forget our December event – Bingo on 8th December, doors open at 6.30pm with great raffle and prizes As always I thank everyone especially Ruth, Henry and committee members for their continued support.

Richard Prouse, Laura Prouse and Charlotte Giordani from Holsworthy and Kelsie Cooling from Chittlehampton were called by name and had hands laid on them by Bishop Sarah and all made their promises to be followers of the Christian Way. The organ was played by Chris March and Church members were stewards. The church was flled with family members, friends of the candidates and supporters from around the Mission Community. After the candidates and everyone had taken their Communion, Bishop Sarah and everyone went to a Bring and Share Supper in Ashwater Parish Hall, which was enjoyed, thanks to those who helped and brought food to be shared.
