Monday, November 11 – Tel Aviv / Center AM Following a delicious Israeli buffet breakfast at the hotel, depart to the Palmach Museum to learn about the strike-force arm of the Haganah, Israel’s pre-state underground defense organization. Experience a multimedia tour that will share the stories, struggles, and motivations of the brave men and women who made declaring an independent State of Israel possible. Meet with Palmach veterans and hear their personal stories. Continue to Ayalon Institute, a clandestine bullet factory that was established by the Haganah in 1945. As the largest bullet factory during that time, it produced 2.25 million bullets from 1946–1948, in complete secrecy. Tour the grounds of Ayalon, which played a major role in aiding the Jewish soldiers who fought for Israel’s Independence. Take a walking tour in Old Jaffa, one of the world’s oldest seaports, and now home to a multiethnic community of Muslims, Christians, and Jews. Tuesday, November 12 – Coastal Route AM Following breakfast, depart north along the coastal route to explore Caesarea, the former Roman capital of the region. Tour the rich remains spanning from the time of the Romans to the Islamic period: the historic aqueduct, the 2,000-year-old Roman amphitheater that has been restored and converted to a concert venue, the Crusader harbor, and Herod’s palace. Proceed to the Tishbi Winery, which offers views of the lush vineyards of the Tishbi Estate. Enjoy a delicious wine and chocolate tasting followed by lunch. PM Continue south to Be’er Sheva, the capital of the Negev. Have an authentic Ethiopian lunch with social entrepreneur Naftali Aklum and hear his captivating story of being among the first group of Jews to make Aliyah via Sudan. Now, his inspiring work raises awareness about Jewish-Ethiopian history and strengthens Ethiopian-Israeli identity. Thursday, November 14 – Masada / Dead Sea AM Following breakfast, ascend Masada, the mountain fortress built by King Herod where religious zealots made their final stand against the Romans. Learn about JNF’s new Torah Scroll Initiative and have your own honorary letter written into a Torah by a Jewish Sofer (scribe), who spends his days in the ancient, glass-enclosed synagogue atop Masada. PM Afterwards, descend the mountain to the depths of the Dead Sea. Enjoy lunch, float in the buoyant waters, and relax at the beach. In partnership with the Central Arava Regional Council and the Israeli government, JNF has built a world-class medical center to replace the former dilapidated clinic and provide quality care to local residents and workers. Continue next door to the Arava Emergency Response Center, providing a facility to ensure the safety and security of the Arava’s residents and the thousands of annual visitors that come to enjoy the many desert adventures the region has to offer. This was just three months after the start of World War II. I arrived in Haifa on December 20, 1939. My brother, who was three years older than I, made Aliya three months earlier within the framework of Youth Aliya. My parents and two sisters were killed by the Germans, but this only became known to me some time later. In 1940 I was accepted as a student in the Max Fein Technical High School in Tel Aviv and started to learn metalworking. In 1941-42 there seemed to be a danger that the Germans might invade Palestine from the direction of Egypt and the sea, under the command of Field Marshal Rommel. I was a bit young but enlisted with almost the whole class, in the Hagana. I swore my loyalty to a fellow called Al Dema in the Borochov quarter of Givataim. Al Dema was the director of the Herzliya Gymnasium in Tel Aviv. We began training, with light weapons during the day and had field practice on Saturdays. We often stood watch at strategic locations to make certain that the Germans didn't try to land paratroopers there. The peak of our service was during the vacation period of the summer of 1942 when we were taken to an English camp at Tel Litvinsky and swore our loyalty to the English monarch.

Take a left after you pass through the people waiting to pick up other passengers. (Take a right to exchange some money if you need to do that first. You can also rent cell phones in this area.) After taking the left, follow the signs to the train station. You will take a right at airport exit #3. Go through the doors and down the hallway. Off to your left, you will see the turnstiles for the train. Walk through that opening in the hallway, before the turnstiles, off to your left is the ticket window. Go to the ticket window and ask for a ticket to Beersheva Central. (Note: If the train is not running for some unknown reason, you will have to take the bus instead. Have someone direct you to the bus stop and take the bus to the Central Bus Station, where you can get a ticket to Tamar like you would at Beersheva.) The train ticket price should be around 32 shekels. You have to change trains once, and they may mention this to you when you buy the ticket. Just tell them you know you have to change trains. Then, proceed to the turnstiles just before the stairs or escalator. You need to put your train ticket through a machine to activate the turnstile.

Among the most important ancient resinous spices were frankin- cense, derivedCOPYRIGHTED from Boswellia spp., myrrh, derived MATERIAL from Commiphoras spp., both from southern Arabia and the Horn of Africa, and balm of Gilead of Judea, derived from Commiphora gileadensis.     Following the call of their faith, they began moving to the Holy Land in 1868. They were the first to successfully drain swamps and make the land habitable for Europeans. First of all a necessary distinction: they have nothing to do with the Knights Templar of the crusader era. That order was dissolved in 1312 AD. The Christian community of the Templers evolved out of mid-nineteenth century Protestant Pietism. The Temple Society was brought into being by the theologian Christoph Hoffmann (1815-1885), who was the son of the founder of the Korntal Pietist Community near Stuttgart and a delegate to the 1848 National Assembly in the Frankfurt Pauls- kirche. Its special concern is to return to the core message of Jesus, to his promise of the kingdom of God and his directive to contribute to the making of a better world through personal action to bring about this kingdom of love and kindness. In view of the grave social ills of the time and guided by this basic attitude, Hoffmann and his followers saw the renewal of society in line with Jesus’ teachings as the foremost challenge facing a Christian community. They separated from the Church because they believed that, along with all the other Churches, the Protestant Church was neglecting this main task. They perceived such renewal to be achievable through a more profound Christianity, where individuals strive to align their life and the choices they make with the words of Jesus in the New Testament, and where creeds, dogmas and rituals are of secondary importance in line with the Society’s motto: Set your mind on God’s kingdom and his justice before everything else.
