lieven ameel Helsinki in Early Twentieth-Century Literature Urban Experiences in Finnish Prose Fiction 1890–1940 Studia Fennica Litteraria The Finnish Literature Society (SKS) was founded in 1831 and has, from the very beginning, engaged in publishing operations. It nowadays publishes literature in the fields of ethnology and folkloristics, linguistics, literary research and cultural history. The first volume of the Studia Fennica series appeared in 1933. Since 1992, the series has been divided into three thematic subseries: Ethnologica, Folkloristica and Linguistica. Two additional subseries were formed in 2002, Historica and Litteraria. The subseries Anthropologica was formed in 2007. In addition to its publishing activities, the Finnish Literature Society maintains research activities and infrastructures, an archive containing folklore and literary collections, a research library and promotes Finnish literature abroad. You can purchase your ticket from the train conductor. The cost is 5 euros. By bus: There is a regular airport bus service 615 from the airport to the Helsinki Central railway station. The total travel time is about 30–45 minutes. You can purchase your ticket from a ticket machine or from the driver. The cost is 5 euros (7 euros night-time 2am-4:30am). A direct coach service by Finnair is also available to and from the city center. Traveling time is about 30 min and the cost is 6,30 euros. From Helsinki Airport to Aalto University, Otaniemi Campus, Espoo By train: I and P trains run from Vantaa Airport to Helsinki Railway Station – the journey time is about 25 minutes. From the railway station you can take the new West Metro to Aalto University. A single ticket from the Airport all the way to Espoo costs €5.50. From Helsinki Station we advise you take the West Metro to either Aalto station for the Radission Blu Hotel or Tapiola station for Original Sokas Tapiola Garden Hotel. By Yellow Line Airport taxi (shuttle taxi): Yellow Line’s desk can be found in the arrival hall. The cost to Aalto University campus is €29.50 for 1-2 persons. Note: shuttle taxis may take longer to reach the destination as you might share the taxi with other people going to the same direction. By normal taxi: There is a Taxi stand outside the main entrance of the arrival hall. The cost to get to the Aalto campus area is approximately €40 and takes approx. 30 mins. Note: all Taxi’s in Finland have standardized fares and provide receipts at the end of the journey. The Network Statement describes the state-owned railway network, access conditions, the infrastructure capacity allocation process, the services supplied to railway undertakings and their pricing as well as the principles for determining the infrastructure charge. The Network Statement is published for each timetable period for applicants requesting infrastructure capacity. This Network Statement covers the timetable period 12 December 2021 – 10 December 2022. The Network Statement 2022 has been prepared on the basis of the previous Network Statement taking into account the feedback received from users and the Network Statements of other European Infrastructure Managers. -

Travel to Turku Turku Airport Turku Airport is just 15 minutes away from the center of Turku. Bus number 1, with the harbour as its final destina- tion, will take you to the center of Turku (Market Square). Time tables can be found from the Turku public transport travel planner. Buses leave every half hour and tickets cost approximately 3 euros, only cash is accepted. Please note that there are no cash machines or bank services at the Turku Airport, please bring euros with you if you plan on using the bus! A taxi ride to the center of Turku will cost around 20 euros. All taxis accept credit/debit cards. Taxi in Turku You can reserve a taxi at +358 2 10041. There are several taxi stands in the City centre. Helsinki Airport Bus There is a bus service from Helsinki Airport directly to Turku that leaves once an hour for most of the day (there are periods during the late night that they leave less regularly). You can find information about the timetables and prices from Express Bus. Tickets cost approximately 30 euros per direction (a small discount is given for a return ticket) and you can either buy them on the internet or directly from the bus. Credit/debit cards are accepted. If you arrive in Terminal 1, the bus stops at platform 3. From Terminal 2, the bus stops at platform 13-14. The bus will have a sign saying TURKU on it. There is a bus change about 20-30 minutes into the ride, make sure you specify that you want the Express bus if there is a choice between Express and Pika when you take the bus (the former is a bit quicker than the latter). -

2005.12.28 If one were to describe European dance since the 1990s in geopolitical terms, it would be a disintegration of the center and dispersion toward new cells. While on the one hand we see a continuing diversification of expression, we are also seeing the start of trend toward similarity in the creative approach and ideas due to the development of information networks and media. The creators are questioning the fundamental elements of “creativity” as the source of creation. Within this context, there was widespread critical acclaim when the Lyon Dance Biennial 2004 chose a program consisting primarily of artists from what had until recently had been considered the peripheral regions of Eastern Europe, Scandinavia and the Mediterranean countries rather than the “mainstream” countries of France and Germany. This move was considered an apt reflection of present conditions. In fact, there is increasing attention coming to focus today on the refreshing new expressions coming out of these areas of Eastern Europe, Scandinavia and the Mediterranean countries, which are indeed possessed of new, untapped appeal. Among these up and coming dance nations, Finland has shown especially vital growth in recent years. It is dance that is energetic and strong-boned or, you would not call it stylish or adroit, but it stands out among the dance styles of Europe with a unique vibrancy that draws from an accentuated presence of the body. For example, among the performances I saw during the 2005 season, the one that perhaps left the strongest impression was Borrowed Light by one of Finland’s representative choreographers, Tero Saarinen. -

The Network Statement 2021 has been prepared on the basis of the previous Network Statement taking into account the feedback received from users and the Network Statements of other European Infrastructure Managers. The Network Statement 2021 is published as a PDF publication. The Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency updates the Network Statement as necessary and keeps capacity managers and known applicants for infrastructure capacity in the Finnish railway network up to date on the document.
