WELCOME FROM OUR JOINT MANAGER ANDY HUNT

Good evening and welcome to the Franki Foundation Stadium home of Fleet Town F.C. Tonight we face our local rivals Hartley Wintney for the very first time at this level in an Evo-Stik South East Division fixture. I hope everyone visiting us has a good time, enjoys the game and a safe journey home.

I would especially like to extend a very warm welcome to everyone from H.W.F.C tonight. Having had some very enjoyable times at the club as a player, I am pleased they are doing so well over the last few years but that will be on hold for 90 odd minutes tonight whilst the game is in progress though ! Hartley are having a fantastic season, which continues on from ‘back to back’ League titles in the Combined Counties. The club is where it should be now and I hope this continues for years to come. They have got a great chance of making the play offs and have had good runs in both major Cup competitions. It’s always good to have a proper derby match at this time of year and I fully expect both teams to go out and give every effort to make it a game to remember. Millers and Dan Brownlie, their joint Managers have really made great progress with the club and when you look at the players they are attracting then you have to take your hat off to them. I’ve known them both for a long time, Dan came to play at Hartley as a young player when I was there and Millers has been good mates with my brother from school and we’ve been had some good times together over the years.

Our squad is really stretched tonight as we have a number of key players with knocks but that hands

opportunities to players who have waited for chances to perform for the team to impress Steve and

myself. Tonight will be a huge test as we look to record our first league win in 2018 which has been

hard on us as I feel our performances have been pretty good in general. We do of course still need the

points as we look to become mathematically safe from relegation.

Our game on Saturday saw us unfortunate not to get a point I felt against Ashford Town. Earlier in the season we were on the end of a heavy defeat from them but this time we competed for the whole game. We took the lead in the first 10 minutes after a good bit of play. Bradley beat the full back and put in a great ball for T to score. A couple of slips of concentration cost us two goals but apart from that we pushed them all the way. We got the ball down and played some good football. We just couldn’t find that final pass or cross to give us that needed equaliser. I would just like to say a big thank you to everyone who has supported management and the team so far this season. We really do appreciate it because this drives us on to keep doing well and improving. It has been a tough season for The Club but by all pulling together we can make long term improvements to make it good again.

Enjoy the game and COYB

THE HISTORY OF HARTLEY WINTNEY F.C.

Hartley Wintney Football Club was founded in the North Hampshire village of Hartley Wintney in 1897 and played in an area adjacent to the village's golf and cricket clubs, the facilities not quite being up to today's standard, with only a horse trough or the pond to remove the heavy mud from a sub-standard pitch. The Club's nickname of 'The Row' comes from 'Hartley Row', a former hamlet within Hartley Wintney. In 1953, the club moved to its present ground in Green Lane, known as 'The Memorial Ground'. A pavilion was erected and the team played in the Basingstoke League and, later, in the Aldershot League.

In 1973, an influx of players under new manager Glynn Howell put the club firmly on the local football map. In his six year reign, the team won the Aldershot Senior League three times in succession, and the Aldershot Senior Cup.

After several seasons in the Aldershot Senior League, Hartley were admitted to the Combined Counties League (previously Surrey Senior League). After the first couple of seasons and two changes of management, the club appointed Ian Bedford, and once again an influx of senior players brought Hartley success. Within his three years in management, they gained trophies including the League Title (1982-1983) and Runners Up (1981-1982), Aldershot Senior Cup Winners (1980-1981), and George Allen Cup Winners (1981- 1982). They were also Runners Up in the League Cup (1982-1983) and Aldershot Senior Cup (1981-1982).

The club gained promotion from Division One of the Combined Counties League in 2007-08 under manager Mike Scott, but 08-09 began poorly and, despite a change of management, the season ended in relegation by a narrow margin. Under the management team of Pete Gray and John Condon, the first team rallied in 09-10, finishing 5th in CCL Div 1, and 7th in season 10-11 under manager Louis King after Pete Gray had stepped down for family reasons.

The 2011-12 season under manager Neville Roach, Assistant Mick Wollen and Coach Scott Tarr was a notable one for the club as they again achieved promotion to the Combined Counties League Premier Division, as well as having a fine FA Cup run that took them to the Third Qualifying Round. However, end-of-season celebrations were dampened when the coaching staff left to join Thatcham Town. The entire squad bar two players departed, so new manager Dave Tuttle was faced with the task of rebuilding a squad competitive enough for the CCL Premier. A string of poor results led to a second change in management in less than 4 months, with 24 year-old ex-Hartley player, Ben Dillon, given his first managerial position already deep into the 2012-13 season.

Once again there was an almost total outflow of players from Tuttle's squad, and Ben, with assistants Jason Minton and Joe Lawler, set about rebuilding the squad, but by this time with Hartley set well adrift at the bottom of the table. The introduction of a talented group of players restored the spirit around the club, and in what became known as the club's 'Great Escape' season, Hartley Wintney's place in the CCL Premier was secured against all the odds after a truly remarkable second half of the season.

Ben further strengthened the squad for 2013-14, with Steve Saunders and player/coach Dan Brownlie brought in to the coaching setup alongside Jason and Joe. The season started well and there were notable wins in the FA Cup on a run that took the club to the 4th Qualifying Round for the first time in its history. The cup run took its toll on league form but the club finished a creditable 7th in the Premier Division.

After a comfortable 9th place finish in 2014-15, Ben Dillon stepped down and Dan Brownlie and Anthony Millerick were appointed Joint First Team Managers, alongside coaches Joe Lawler and Luke Tuffs. With strong additions to the playing squad, it was an eventful 2015-16 season. After a memorable 1-0 win away at Southern League Merthyr Town in the 2nd Qualifying Round of the FA Cup, Hartley took Conference South Eastbourne Borough to the wire, losing out to an injury time winner. In the FA Vase, a longstanding club record was broken by reaching the 5th Round Proper played in front of a sell-out 1,300 at Green Lane against the eventual finalists, Hereford FC. And despite the cup commitments, the club topped the CCL Premier Division for most of the season and claimed the 2015-16 league title. Promotion, however, was denied due to ground grading issues.

Faced with huge challenges on and off the pitch - to achieve back-to-back title wins and put in place the necessary ground improvements to take advantage of any second opportunity for promotion - the 2016-17 season was perhaps the club's best yet, topping the Combined Counties League Premier Division for the entire season, reaching the semi-finals of the Hampshire senior county cup and the final of the Aldershot Senior Cup, and securing the required ground grading to allow the club to take its place in The Evo-Stik (Southern) League South; the first time in its history that the club has made it to Step 4 of the English football pyramid.

To top off a wonderful 2016-17 season, our young Youth team won the Hampshire FA Youth Midweek Floodlit Cup, winning on penalties against a strong Aldershot Town U18.

Hartley Wintney FC has come a long way, from 'village side' in every sense of the term, to today's 7 days a week modern football club. Under longstanding Club Chairman, Luke Mullen, the football club has established a clear line of progression for young players with the establishment of an U18 Youth setup, currently playing in the Allied Counties Youth League, a Reserve team playing in the Suburban League, and an A Team playing in the Aldershot & District Football League.

Hartley Wintney Joint Managers

Pictured above are Hartley Wintney’s joint Managers Anthony Millerick and Dan Brownlie a position they have both held with great success since the start of Season 2015/6.

‘Tony’ Millerick is of course well known to Fleet Town F.C. fans as for several years in the early 2000’s he was our first choice left back. A local lad he joined from Basingstoke Town and made his debut for us in August 2003. Including starts from the bench Tony went on to make 112 appearances and scored 1 goal. Always a keen student of the game it is no surprise that he has gone on to be successful in management

Hartley Wintney Player Profiles Season 2017-18

Steve Noakes : Steve is a very experienced defender whose previous clubs include Burnham, Metropolitan Police and of course Fleet Town. Steve made his debut for us on August 20th 2005 in a 1-1 Draw away to Tonbridge Angels in The Ryman League Division 1. He went on to make 226 staring appearances for Fleet Town plus 3 as substitute and scored 11 goals. For most of these appearances he was our Captain and it was during one of the most successful periods in The Club’s history.

Steven Duff : Steve is a very strong midfielder. He is powerful, direct and a defender’s nightmare because he is equally as dangerous on the inside as as the outside.

Liam Eagle : Liam is an experienced Central defender who is now in his third season with Hartley Wintney

Paul Strudley: Goalkeeper: One of the best communicators in non-league football. Makes saves that don’t seem humanly possible. Often the unsung hero of the side.

Chris Harris: Goalkeeper: Young goalkeeper who has equipped himself well when call upon this season

Freddie Gee: Goalkeeper: Another promising keeper who is on dual registration with Wessex league side Tadley Calleva. Proving to be a more than capable understudy to Struds. Hartley’s designated penalty taker Louie Paget: Defender: A versatile player who can play at full back or anywhere in midfield. A youth team product and previous youth captain.

Jack Ball: Defender: Recently returned from overseas and joined up with his old mentor Millers.

Comfortable in defence and attack. Nick Hutchings: Defender Nick is an excellent left back who has been at Farnborough and of course with us at Fleet Town until last season. He did in fact make over 100 appearances here and scored 2 goals. He like Jack was a very popular player whom we were sorry to lose. James King: Defender: Reliable defender who can also play in midfield. In his second spell with the club. Josh Webb: Midfielder: Combative midfielder forming a formidable partnership with Frenchy, Joined Hartley this season from Met Police. Jack French: Midfielder:Jack is a very impressive midfield player with a great first touch. With his tight control he is capable of finding his way out of impossible situations. Always puts in a good shift. James Tennant Midfielder: Another new signing this season. Powerful and pacey wide player to add to our attacking options. Luke Perkins: Midfielder: Quick winger who joined us midway through last season from Godalming Town. Jayden Englefield: Midfielder: A young and tricky winger who joined us from Winchester City.
