    Maiden uniteD – Empire of the Clouds (23:33+18:06, 2EP-CD, Yazmine Park/Nuppel, 2018) 2006 forderte der niederländische Iron Maiden- Fanclub Joey Bruers dazu auf, eine spezielle Show zu kreieren: Und zwar etwas anderes als eine stinknormale Coverband. So performte dieser mit mehreren Gastmusikern einige, neu- arrangierte Maiden-Songs – rein akkustisch. Diese Idee wurde also zu einem Projekt, das Projekt zu einer Band, mit stets wechselnden Gastmusikern, sodass sich mittlerweile auch an die Vocals gewagt wird. Was 2010 also mit „Mind The Acoustic Pieces“, einer rein akustischen Version des Maiden-Klassikers „Piece of Mind“ (im Original von 1983) begann, wird nun, drei Alben später („Across the Seventh Sea“, 2012; „Remembrance“, 2015) mit der EP „Empire of the Clouds“ weitergeführt. Das Original ist auf dem 2015 erschienen „Book of Souls“ zuhause und mit einer Länge von mehr als 18 Minuten der längste Song der Band – bisher. Erzählt wird die tragische Geschichte der „Silver Ghost“, des britischen Verkehrsluftschiffs R101, das in der Nacht vom 4. auf den 5. Oktober 1930 in Paris abstürzte. Durch die Feuerwalze kamen 48 Passagiere ums Leben. Bis heute munkelt man, das Schiff sei überladen gewesen, Kapitän Raymond habe Warnungen ignoriert, man bringt sogar dessen Zuneigung zum Alkohol in Verbindung mit dem Unglück. Naja, erzählt haben die Menschen schon immer viel; das größte bis dato gebaute Luftschiff („the Titanic fits inside“), ein tragisches Unglück und Alkohol, das schreit doch förmlich nach einer Metal-Ballade! Iron Maiden erhörte diesen Ruf bekanntlich. Was von den Briten so großartig quasi in Breitwand umgesetzt wurde, haben Maiden UniteD wirklich klasse neu interpretiert.

Und bei deren aktuellem Tour-Line-up andererseits gerade einmal zwei der Personen dabei sind, die den 2018er Top-Favoriten aufgenommen haben. Doch was nützt die Angst vor Enttäuschung – auf nach Düsseldorf. Auch das „Rock’n Roll Headquarter“ der Landeshauptstadt, den Pitcher 29 und seinen sympathischen Chef Andreas erlebten wir auf dieser Tour das erste Mal. That admixture of Saxon, Danish, and British races which had come to be known under the general name of English, was in most respects far behind the rest of Europe. The island was, as it had always been,—except during the rule of two or three exceptionally strong kings,—distracted by internal dissensions. Broad lines of division still separated the North from the South, and under weak Kings the powerful Earls became almost independent. The enterprise that had distinguished their Saxon and Danish ancestors seems to have died out. There was a general indisposition to change, and except in her ecclesiastical buildings, England made but little progress in civilization from the time of Alfred to that of Harold. Its insular position cut it off from taking part in that rapid advance which, beginning in Italy, was extending throughout Europe. The arrival, however, of the impetuous Norman race, securing as it did a close connection with the Continent, quickened the intellect of the people, raised their intelligence, was of inestimable benefit to the English, and played a most important part in raising England among the nations.
