NEW RELEASES MP3 CD, CD & LIBRARY DOWNLOAD COMPLETE and UNABRIDGED 1 Introducing Awais Khan…
APRIL – JUNE 2021 Australia ULVERSCROFT AUDIO NEW RELEASES MP3 CD, CD & LIBRARY DOWNLOAD COMPLETE AND UNABRIDGED 1 Introducing Awais Khan… Awais Khan currently lives in Pakistan. He has studied Novel Writing and Editing at the prestigious Faber Academy in London and is the founder of the Writing Institute, the largest institute for Creative Writing in Pakistan. In the Company of Strangers is his debut novel. What inspired the story behind In the Company of Strangers? In the Company of Strangers explores the secrets and lies of Pakistan’s wealthy society as they become a target in a terror plot. Over the years, I have had the chance to observe the lives of the people here and I’ve come to realise that no matter how privileged they may be, they are still subject to the toxic issues plaguing all of Pakistan, namely domestic abuse, misogyny and shaming. There are no heroes in In the Company of Strangers. My intention was to shine a light on how flawed and vicious much of Pakistani society can be, and how much still needs to be done to improve the lives of people, especially women, here. Introduce us to Mona. What’s facing her at the start of the novel? Mona is in her early forties and is married to one of the richest men in Lahore. Despite having wealth and all the luxuries that come with it at her disposal, she is unhappy. She is trapped in an abusive marriage with Bilal and she finds her friends extremely fake and judgmental…When a former friend tries to reconnect with her, offering her a chance to venture into a glittering world of secrets and covert affairs, she doesn’t think twice. -
Hipster Black Metal?
Hipster Black Metal? Deafheaven’s Sunbather and the Evolution of an (Un) popular Genre Paola Ferrero A couple of months ago a guy walks into a bar in Brooklyn and strikes up a conversation with the bartenders about heavy metal. The guy happens to mention that Deafheaven, an up-and-coming American black metal (BM) band, is going to perform at Saint Vitus, the local metal concert venue, in a couple of weeks. The bartenders immediately become confrontational, denying Deafheaven the BM ‘label of authenticity’: the band, according to them, plays ‘hipster metal’ and their singer, George Clarke, clearly sports a hipster hairstyle. Good thing they probably did not know who they were talking to: the ‘guy’ in our story is, in fact, Jonah Bayer, a contributor to Noisey, the music magazine of Vice, considered to be one of the bastions of hipster online culture. The product of that conversation, a piece entitled ‘Why are black metal fans such elitist assholes?’ was almost certainly intended as a humorous nod to the ongoing debate, generated mainly by music webzines and their readers, over Deafheaven’s inclusion in the BM canon. The article features a promo picture of the band, two young, clean- shaven guys, wearing indistinct clothing, with short haircuts and mild, neutral facial expressions, their faces made to look like they were ironically wearing black and white make up, the typical ‘corpse-paint’ of traditional, early BM. It certainly did not help that Bayer also included a picture of Inquisition, a historical BM band from Colombia formed in the early 1990s, and ridiculed their corpse-paint and black cloaks attire with the following caption: ‘Here’s what you’re defending, black metal purists. -
NEW RELEASES MP3 CD, CD & LIBRARY DOWNLOAD COMPLETE and UNABRIDGED 1 Introducing Samantha Silva… Samantha Silva Is a Writer and Screenwriter Based in Idaho
JULY– SEPTEMBER 2021 Canada ULVERSCROFT AUDIO NEW RELEASES MP3 CD, CD & LIBRARY DOWNLOAD COMPLETE AND UNABRIDGED 1 Introducing Samantha Silva… Samantha Silva is a writer and screenwriter based in Idaho. She is currently adapting her debut novel, Mr Dickens and His Carol, for the stage. Love and Fury is her latest novel. Introduce us to Love and Fury. Everyone knows Mary Shelley, who gave us Frankenstein, but not everyone knows her mother, who gave us feminism…Wollstonecraft is an enormously important 18th century writer and philosopher who argues and fights with every shred of her being for an end to tyranny, whether of kings, of marriage, or men. She took Edmund Burke head on, supported both the American and French Revolutions…and managed to live as an independent woman, supporting herself as a writer, which is extraordinary for the period. She was famous in her own lifetime, but her reputation was destroyed for a century when her grieving husband, radical philosopher William Godwin, rushed to write a tell-all memoir, including her tragic love affairs, out-of-wedlock child, severe depression, suicide attempts, that scandalised even her admirers. I think we’re still recovering from that loss – trying to recover her. ‘Two centuries later, her fight for gender equality is still the fight, and her presence as necessary as ever.’ What’s your favourite quality about her? It hadn’t occurred to me that my favourite qualities of Wollstonecraft’s – fierce love and rage – are qualities of mine, even if not as attractive in me as they are in her. -

news #34 MUNGOLIAN JETSET - MUNGODELICS Hot on the heels of 2011`s "Schlungs", the Jetsetters have kept those buttons busily pushed, and are already here with their next chapter installment, featuring 8 new nuggets entitled "Mungodelics". The album is essentially a psychodramatic sequel to the highly acclaimed "We Gave It All Away, Now We Are Taking It Back" album of 2009, as it is musically a blend of originals and remakes made into originals, as well as solo performances and external collaborations from the band`s musical core members, Knut Saevik and Paul "Strangefruit" Nyhus. All in all, "Mungodelics" musically summons everything that is hazy, dazy, underearthly and crazy. This is the Mungolian Jetset taking you on a ride through the seasons, and shifts of the days and nights, from the Cantina to the Ewok forest, via ritualistic dancing at Kilmin Taboour and stellar swimming in the galactic Goa. Racial and Ethnic Representation in Swedish Commercials 2008–2017
genealogy Article Who Is Marketised in Colour-Blind Sweden? Racial and Ethnic Representation in Swedish Commercials 2008–2017 Sayaka Osanami Törngren 1,* and Sofia Ulver 2 1 Malmö Institute for Studies of Migration, Diversity and Welfare, Malmö University, 205 06 Malmö, Sweden 2 Department of Business Administration, School of Economics and Management, Lund University, 220 07 Lund, Sweden; sofi[email protected] * Correspondence: [email protected] Received: 20 August 2020; Accepted: 29 September 2020; Published: 10 October 2020 Abstract: From a social equality representation perspective, advertising should ideally mirror the multicultural composition at the national market, because mass-mediated identity representations may act as cultural resources for those with marginalised identities. To investigate the observance to such an ideal in a context where the ethnic and racial composition of the population saw a rapid change, this article examines 676 Swedish TV commercials in over the period 2008–2017, and analyses the representation of non-White persons of colour (POC). Through this quantitative and qualitative examination, we find that POC are indeed visible in the commercials, but predominantly in the background or playing minor roles. With the, at times, unproportionally high representation of racial and ethnic diversity in Swedish advertising, we find significant tokenism, or in other words, the structurally ineffectual approach common in market-based multiculturalism. Keywords: advertising; persons of colour; representation; Sweden; tokenism 1. Introduction How multicultural is a country through the eyes of the Market? Although marketing is usually criticised for reproducing dominant power structures in society, mass-mediated identity representations at the marketplace may in fact also act as cultural resources for citizens with marginalised identities (Weinberger and Crockett 2018). -

Sunn O))) Was Formed in 1998 by Stephen O'malley and Greg
Sunn O))) was formed in 1998 by Stephen O’Malley and Greg Anderson. They were initially based in Seattle, shortly before moving to Los Angeles, and O'Malley now resides in Paris. The band have become known for their very recognisable “drone metal” sound, and extremely loud live performances. Widely considered pioneering, their music can be described as very slow, with distorted guitars, and an emphasis on texture rather than rhythm. Their name, pronounced "sun", is a reference to the Sunn amplifier brand, and their logo is that of the amplifier’s too. Over their seven solo studio albums and scores of EPs, live albums and other releases, Sunn O))) have collaborated and recorded with artists across the globe, including Scott Walker, Attila Csihar (Mayhem), Kim Thayil (Soundgarden), Japan’s Boris, Norway’s Ulver, Nurse With Wound, Petra Hayden, Julian Cope (The Teardrop Explodes), John Wiese, Oren Ambarchi, Malefic, Julian Priester, Eyvind Kang, Dylan Carlson, Stuart Dempster, and many more. Their early releases were met with acclaim across various underground music scenes, and steadily their profile has risen, becoming something of a household name in the alternative music, and arts worlds. The band have played across the world at many prestigious festivals and venues, in the past year at David Byrne’s Meltdown at the Southbank Centre in London, and curating a four day program at Le Guess Who? Festival in Utrecht. Other notable appearances include Barcelona’s Sonar (2009), Krakow’s Unsound (2009), CTM Berlin (2013), Japan’s Earthdom (2007) and Leave Them All Behind (2012), North Carolina’s Hopscotch (2012), Australia’s Totally Huge New Music Festival (2007) and All Tomorrow’s Parties/The Nightmare Before Christmas (2003, 2004, 2007 and 2009) and Supersonic (2007 and 2009) in the UK. -

Hello Dayal! Let's Go Back to the Beginning When the Idea of Evolution of the Cult Was Born. Why Did You Choose Black Metal?
Hello Dayal! Let’s go back to the beginning when the idea of Evolution of the Cult was born. Why did you choose Black Metal? There are so many kinds of metal and you chose only one? I didn’t have a particular desire to write a book before that so it wasn’t like I was looking for possible subjects, rather it was the other way around - ie. that my fascination with black metal actually made me want to write a book in the first place. But I think it was also more important to write a book about black metal than any other genre at that point because so many other people were writing books, articles and making films about the genre, and the truth in the genre was being lost because mostly these people were outsiders to the movement. A very different situation to that of, say, death metal, which has several good and accurate books written by people from the scene. So my aim with Evolution of the Cult was to finally give the artists involved a proper voice and tell the real story of how this genre was born and developed. Structural composition of black metal joins primitive and multilayer set up. From one side it is an anti-these and from the other it is like tornado, which destroys everything in its path. Composition is as important ad the delivery. Can black metal exists if we remove one piece of the two elements of this music? I think what makes black metal the most fascinating genre of metal is that it is full of these opposing and contradictory tendencies. -
Translocal Narratives of Whiteness in Heavy Metal Scenes in Norway, South Africa and Australia
MEDIANZ ! VOL 15, NO 1 ! 2015 DOI: 10.11157/medianz-vol15iss1id3 - ARTICLE - Whiteness With(out) Borders: Translocal narratives of whiteness in heavy metal scenes in Norway, South Africa and Australia Catherine Hoad Abstract This article discusses how narratives of white masculine identity have been deployed in nation-specific ways within heavy metal scenes in Norway, South Africa and Australia. While heavy metal's global spread has allowed more diverse aesthetics to emerge, within these nations it has also constructed rigid boundaries of community tied both historically and contemporaneously to whiteness. This article interrogates how the dominant practices of three heavy metal scenes affirm an ‘originary’ whiteness that erases its migratory and/or colonial status. In this article I investigate the processes through which discourses of whiteness and white masculinity are translocated and translated from one context to another, enabling spaces of both negotiation and resistance. I address how national heavy metal scenes negotiate these intersections of musicality, whiteness and nationhood in ways that may explore new possibilities for white masculine identities, while also reproducing a rigid politics of power, privilege and exclusion. Introduction As heavy metal experiences wide geographic growth, both its musical style and culture have expanded. However, just as heavy metal's global spread has allowed communities to sound their own particular aesthetics and sociopolitical concerns, this spread has in turn enabled the construction and affirmation of national identity as that which is historically and contemporaneously tied to whiteness and white masculinity. Within such heavy metal scenes, national identity is bound up in the master symbols of nationhood that bear the burden of belonging. -
