This is the first issue of our fourth year of publication and it is hoped to continue in the same vein as past years, as always contributions from members are always welcome as are any suggestions for the improvement of the newsletter. 1992 was a most successful year for our group as detailed in the Area Administrators corner, our task in 1993 is to keep the momentum going and all members can contribute by encouraging new members to join, participate in some of the projects planned for the year and in general become as involved as you can in the operations of the group. It is amazing how an odd hour here and there allows major tasks to be completed quickly and efficiently. Last year a number of members got involved and the Beattie And Phillips Registers were copied in no time at all. Coming up is the entering of our card system onto computer, so if you have basic keyboard skills and can spare a few hours here and there please become involved, the more participants the quicker it will get done. our ongoing series in Marie's Memorabilia on local schools continues as does our Death Notices from the Hamilton Spectator and our hard working research officer Betty is back with her Warrnambool & District Historicals. Rosemary Archer recently attended a 'Street, family reunion and reports on proceedings. This issue is larger than planned due to the large amount of material to be included. I hope that is an omen for our operations in 1993. **************************** THE AREA ADMINISTRATORS CORNER Dear Members and Friends, Here we are into a new year, which I hope will be successful for all doing their family research. Last year saw the membership of our Group increase to 46 members and this is very pleasing, especially as our common interest makes for new and lasting friendships. Last year we had a Beginners Class which proved to be popular and it is hoped to hold another. If there is interest more advanced classes could be held. Our Guest Speakers last year spoke on different aspects of Genealogy and were well received by those present. Much interest was shown in our members nights. Flagstaff Hill Library is continuing to be manned by our volunteers. If you find that you have a couple of hours to spare please contact Rosemary Archer who will put your name on the roster. By helping them we are indirectly helping ourselves. Fund raising was again successful. This included a Pie Drive, and a Christmas Cake, made and donated by Robin Gray. Raffle was drawn at the end of year breakup at Rafferty's. The winner was Larry Burns, father of member Laurence Burns. There was much interest shown in the Seminar which is now to be an Annual event. Thanks must go to Melbourne Members who gave up their time to attend. Betty Inwood should also be thanked for her interest in our group. Some good news! The Fire Brigade Visitor's Book turned up in January. Page Three AREA ADMINISTRATORS CORNER (Cont) The highlight of the year would have to be the copying of the Beattie and Phillips Burial Books. I was interviewed by Margaret Good on 3WAY FM, subject of course being Genealogy, and as Margaret has researched her families it was just like two old girls having a good old gossip. I enjoyed the half hour.. Till the next time good luck with your researching Regards to all Marie Boyce Area Administrator **************************** LIBRARY ACQUISITIONS WARRNAMBOOL & DISTRICT Harpoons to Harvest J R Carroll (on loan M Boyce) Shamrock Beneath the Southern Cross P Marriot (on loan V Malik) Good Family History (donated by Margaret Good) OTHER DISTRICTS IN VICTORIA Crown Lands Pre-Emptive Right Applications Victoria 1850-54 Gippsland Electoral Rolls for 1856 Family and Local History Indexes in Victoria Family and Local History Sources in Victoria Old Melbourne Cemetery Registers and Plans microfiche Civil Establishment of the Colony of Victoria 1851 Civil Establishment of the Colony of Victoria 1857 Point Piper Past and Present G N Griffiths A Melbourne Family 1848 - 1948 W E Matensen Mary of Maranoa E Pownall Township - Parish Guide 1985 Vic.
