2003 Hassert Blvd., Naperville, IL 60564 ▪ 630.922.0081 ▪ www.hscc.us • Follow us on FIFTH SUNDAY OF EASTER May 2, 2021 We pray for those who are sick. May God restore them to good health. We also pray for those who have died especially Nancy Goetter, mother of Jennifer Gutke, Ronald Kisiel, husband of Mabel Kisiel, and Ann Leahey, mother of Linda Roberts. May they be blessed with eternal life. May Crowning at all Masses on May 15/16 What is a May Crowning? May Crowning is a traditional ritual held during the month of May. It is a procession to the Blessed Mother statue and crowned with a wreath of flowers honoring Mary as “the Queen of May.” Why a Crowning? The queen symbol was attributed to Mary because she was a perfect follower of Christ, who is the absolute “crown” of creation. She is the Mother of the Son of God, who is the messianic King. Mary is the Mother of Christ. How to celebrate Mary at home? Create a Mary Garden which is a small outdoor sacred garden enclosing a statue of the Virgin Mary. Make a May Altar by placing a statue of Mary, a candle, and fresh or paper flowers on a table. Pray the Rosary during the month of May. HOLIEST FLOWER VINES, BRANCHES, AND FRUIT Mary is the lily in God’s garden. Few activities are as disappointing as cultivating garden plants, watering them, and ensuring that they receive —St. Bridget of Sweden sunlight and nutrients, only to receive one or two vegetables or flowers to show for all the effort. Jesus uses the metaphor of the vine and branches to describe how closely we are called to remain with him—so close that we bear the fruit of his life and love in the way we live. When we do this, Jesus says, we give glory to God the Father, which Jesus did perfectly through his life, pas- sion, death, and resurrection. Like plants that rely on the sun and nutrients from the soil, we rely on the Lord Jesus through whom we can do all for which we are called. Without the Lord, we can do nothing. J.S. Paluch 5th Sunday of Easter “Children, let us love not in word or speech but in deed and truth.” - 1 JOHN 3:18 Regarding our Catholic faith, do you “walk the talk?” Do your actions reflect what it means to be a good disciple? Are you an active participant at Sunday Mass? Are you joyful when participating in parish ministry? Do you give gratefully and generously with your financial support to your parish and other Church needs? If not, it’s not too late to start! With grateful hearts, we thank you for your continued support of the parish. Your gifts allow God’s work to be done in our midst and in the world around us. People have been creative in finding ways to donate; electronically, by mail, dropping off in the mailbox in the circle drive, at the welcome desk, or in the offertory boxes at Mass. Thank you for helping to keep our Spiritual Home in working order while we trust in the Lord to lead us through these difficult times.
