Just when I thought the highlight of the September was the District 25C Banner Night on September 25th, the clubs of District 25C just put the cherry on top of the sundae with the District’s first 100%-100% filing month of our Monthly Membership Reports (MMR) and Service Activity Reports (SAR). There was no way that we are not going to celebrate, and my article just had to take a back seat to this feat. This just may be the first time that this has ever been accomplished in any of the districts in Indiana and even possibly the entire world. There is just one word that really applies: So now, let’s take a breath. Breathe…breathe…breathe! Now back to Banner Night. It was really great to see a total of 21 club banners spanning the room the room in Martinsville, and all of the Past District Governors passing the flame of Lionism (even though they were only battery powered candles) across the generations of Lions represented. My home club, the Martinsville Noon Lions Club, hosted the event, and I can never thank them enough for all of the support that they have shown since I decided to move into the chairs of eventually becoming your District Governor. There are so many people and Lions to thank and just so much space, but I really want to thank our First Lady of District 25C, Lion Jennifer, for all of her hard work on rounding up the volunteers, making countless telephone calls, and making the afternoon a success. The cakes were just one of the hits. They all did a banner job. As we usher in October, my District Governor tour really starts to pick up steam. There are nine club visitations scheduled this month, and even more scheduled in November. There are still eight clubs which need to schedule their official visits. And when I do make it to your club, don’t forget to come up with your “Remember when…?” stories. I’m starting to amass quite a collection of stories from our clubs. Probably the most important event for the Lions of Indiana this month is when Lions Clubs International President Bob Corlew comes back to Indiana on October 23-24. IP Bob will be coming to the Council of Governors meeting in Indianapolis on the 23rd, followed by an informal dinner in Clermont, Indiana (see the flier), and then going to the Indiana Secretary of State’s Office on the 24th. That is the day that he will be reenacting the original signing of the incorporation papers of the International Association of Lions Club, as filed by Dr. W.P. Woods on October 24, 1916. This reenactment, 100 years to the day, is extremely significant for the Lions of Indiana. We have always heard about how Melvin Jones started a letter writing campaign in 1917 to invite like-minded individuals to meet in Chicago, Illinois, and how he became known as the “Founder” of Lions Clubs International, but International President Corlew’s coming to Indiana to celebrate this anniversary cements Indiana’s claim as being the true birthplace of Lionism. This is something that should make the Lions of Indiana proud. Although we may have a few more hot days, enjoy the cooler weather! During September 14th through the 17th, I was able to attend the USA/Canada Leadership Forum that was held in Omaha, Nebraska. This was my first Leadership Forum, and it was a great experience. I and another First VDG traveled to Omaha on Wednesday the 14th so that we could be there ahead of the beginning meetings on Thursday. That left time to get ourselves acclimated to the area, and pick up a few essentials. The banquets were very nice, giving an opportunity to meet Lions from many different areas. The food was wonderful, and there was a lot of it! There were 71 different seminars, which meant that everyone could find something that would interest them. I had to choose seminars that would help me in what I’m going to be doing in the next couple of years, but next year when the Forum is held in Portland, Oregon, I will have an opportunity to pick up some of the other seminars that looked interesting. In 2018 the Forum will be in Columbus, Ohio, 2019 in Spokane, Washington, 2020 in Louisville, Kentucky. One of the really special parts of the Forum was the Service Project that I participated in on Saturday afternoon. USA/Canada Forum partnered with The Outreach Program, whose mission is “Providing safe water, food, medical care and education to children and those in need at home and abroad.” to package over 100,000 meals that would be distributed to locations in Omaha. It was a lot of fun working on the assembly line with people that I had never met before, and was great knowing that this group effort was going to help those in most need. For those of you who have not attended a District Banner Night, you missed a great one in Martinsville on Sunday, September 25th. This is a time for fellowship with other Lions in your District (or Multiple District), as well as the transferring of the Banner from the Immediate Past District Governor to the current District Governor. Fellowship is the key word here. So many times we are in a situation when we are attending a conference or a convention that we don’t have time to socialize. Banner Nights are great for that—building a relationship with Lions from all over the District and Multiple District. I’d like to suggest that you start making plans to attend the 25C District Convention which will be held March 11, 2017 at Turkey Run State Park, and the 2017 Lions Indiana State Convention which will be held April 26-30, 2017 in Evansville, Indiana. District Governor Ross Drapalik www.e-district.org/sites/25c/ Issue No. 4 District 25C Chronicles October 2016 International President (IP) Corlew recently announced that we reached the 100 million people served milestone in the Centennial Service Challenge. As we celebrate this incredible accomplishment, let's renew our commit- ment to serve those who need us so much. The Centennial Celebration is a great time for every Lion to get involved in service. There is still time to invite new members to serve with you, to dedicate a Centennial Community Legacy Project in your community, and continue supporting the Centennial Service Challenge by hosting youth, vision, hunger and environmental projects. Be sure to report your activities through MyLCI so we can share our impact with Lions and the world. How will your club celebrate our Centennial? In between service projects and recruitment events, take some time to celebrate the Centennial with your club. After all, this only happens once every 100 years. "Ways to Celebrate" on the LCI website contains a list of ideas to get you started (www.lionsclubs.org --- Lions 100 -- Programs -- Ways to Celebrate). Share your ideas with me, and I will share them with the district through our e- mail communication system. PDG Sara Provines 25C Centennial Coordinator [email protected] Congratulations Lions Congratulations to all our clubs for the filing of last month’s Monthly Membership Reports (MMR) and Service Activity Reports (SAR). The standard is set and our goal 100% filing each month of both of these reports has been. By only taking a few minutes each month, you have made District 25C the leader in reporting. With harvest season starting, some members will be absent from club meetings. So it is up to all of us to keep them informed on activities of your club. Make a call to a fellow Lion and let them know they are missed.
