Welcome to Pulaski Summer School 2017. We are excited to kick off another great year of summer school in the Pulaski Community School District. We have been busy planning this year’s summer school and are happy to again have many of our popular class offerings, as well as new programs our families and students will enjoy.

In Pulaski, we feel we offer the best summer school experience in Wisconsin because we have excellent teachers, great classes, great facilities and a recreation program that keeps our students active and engaged in learning!

As always, Pulaski’s Summer School is built on flexibility. Students have the option of enrolling in one class or taking a full day of classes, as well as staying for our afternoon Raider Recreation (RRR) program.

From the Superintendent

Greetings! I hope that you are each enjoying a successful, #RaiderStrong school year. While there are still months of learning and growth to enjoy this school year, it is also time to begin thinking about opportunities to continue learning and growing through summer school. Our PCSD summer school staff have been busy planning and preparing and have an outstanding program with innovative new offerings as well as some of your favorites and are eagerly awaiting the summer school season! We look forward to sharing exciting learning experiences with you in the coming months. In order to make summer school accessible to all students, we will again provide busing from the outlying elementary schools to Summer School sites during each term. We are pleased to continue offering breakfast and lunch to all school aged students! Stay tuned for more information on our options for breakfast and lunch during the summer, brought to you by our district food service department. New this year is a one-day adult summer school! I am thrilled to have the opportunity to both teach and learn through these offerings! I hope that you’ll consider joining me! You can find more information on this new program on page 51. I encourage you to explore all that the Pulaski Community School District has to offer families throughout Red Raider Country. I look forward to seeing you at Summer School 2017!

From the Director

Dear Summer School Families, Continue to think warm thoughts, Summer School will soon be here. The program will move back to the Middle School this year. Early Childhood, 4K and 5K programs will again be at Lannoye. The future of summer school in Wisconsin seems very bright. We have had some changes from the state that have gone into effect and will positively affect us. There is a possibility of many more positive changes to come in the near future. The one change that everyone will notice is summer school can now be offered 24 hours a day. In the past, we were limited to 4.5 hours per day. The one actual change I will talk about on page 7 is for Red Raider Rec. Starting in July you will notice a drastic decrease in the cost of RRR. Enjoy the sites and sounds of new life this spring. Soon summer school will be here before you know it. See you June 12th.

Please be sure to familiarize yourself with these changes, as we will have to adhere to them to keep our program running smoothly.

This year the majority of Summer School classes will take place at Pulaski Community Middle School (PCMS). Reading & Math Workshop will be held at PHS in the Social Studies Pod. Swimming lessons and RRR will be held at PCMS. Getting Ready for 4K and Getting Ready for Kindergarten will be held at Lannoye Elementary.

All Summer School swimming lesson fees must be paid to PACE at the Summer School Office. Please do not pay these fees at the pool.

WATCH IT HAPPEN RRR------>Afternoon Á la Carte There are many proposed changes coming from the DPI in regards to summer school. The state would like to see more districts run a program similar to ours in Pulaski. Much research shows a slide in student performances from May to September. I think common sense would tell us that 3 months without a structured classroom setting would, at minimum, halt the growth of a child’s educational base. Taking six weeks of enrichment classes helps keep math and reading skills sharp for most students and some may even see increases.

In the past, the state has only allowed summer school to be offered for 4.5 hours per day. Now we can offer summer school for the entire summer. This change will be noticed in the RRR program starting in July. Beginning on July 10th we will offer Afternoon Á la Carte and it will cost and look more like summer school. We will still meet from 1:15pm – 3:30pm but students will be able to choose two – 1 hour classes for a week at a time. Please see pages 42-43 for more information and class options.

Registration Information Online Registration for summer school will open to the public at 5:00pm on Wednesday, April 5th and continue until Sunday, April 23rd. Any changes must be made by April 23rd.

The PACE Office will be open from 5:00pm to 8:00pm on April 5th to provide assistance to families who do not have online computer access or need help signing up for classes.

The Summer School Office will be open from 8:00am to 4:00pm M-F. We can also be reached by phone at 822-6053 and email at [email protected]. We will be available to assist you with any questions you may have and will do our best to return phone calls and emails as quickly as possible. 5 Late Registration Information To register for Summer School after April 23rd, please call the Summer School Office at 822-6053 or email [email protected]. Please be aware that available classes will be limited.

The deadline for late registrations is Friday, May 26th.

Payment Information The deadline for online registration is Sunday, April 23rd. After this day, all schedules will be locked. If you decide that your student will not be attending a class they are registered for, please remove the class from their schedule before the registration deadline. Course fees will be applied to your student’s Fee Management account in Skyward Family Access on Monday, May 1st. After this date, you will be responsible for payment of all fees associated with Summer School classes regardless of attendance. Fees will remain on student’s Skyward accounts until they are paid.

Payments will be accepted beginning Monday, May 1st until Friday, May 19th. As in the past, payments can be made online with a credit card (highly recommended) or with cash or check by mail or in person to the Summer School Office. Cash payments must be exact as we do not have the ability to make change. Please do not send cash or check payments until the payment period begins. Any payments received prior will not be processed until this time. Payments cannot be accepted over the phone. All payments must be received by Friday, May 19th.

Financial assistance is available to those who qualify for free or reduced lunch. Please call the Summer School Office at 822-6053 for more information.

There will be a $35 NSF charge on all returned checks.

There is an additional $25 per term fee for non-district residents.

Refund & Cancellation Policy To keep class costs affordable, refunds will only be issued if a class is canceled by the Summer School Director or because of a family/medical emergency. All refund requests must be submitted, in writing, to the Summer School Office one week prior to the start of the term for which the request is being made. No refunds will be given for classes and camps once they have started. Refund checks for Term 1 will be issued by June 30th. Refund checks for Term 2 and Term 3 will be issued by July 30th.

All classes are subject to cancellation by the Summer School Director. Any class that does not have sufficient enrollment may be canceled. If a class is canceled, alternate classes will be available. 6 Schedules & Confirmations Summer school schedules will be sent home, by first class mail, at the beginning of June as confirmation of registration and payment. To ensure that your student receives a schedule, payment must be made in full by the May 19th payment deadline. Schedules will list classes for all four terms, teachers, classroom numbers and lunch period.

Open House An open house will be held on Wednesday, June 7, 2017 from 5:00 to 7:00pm at Pulaski Community Middle School for 1st - 12th grade students and at Lannoye Elementary School for 4K and Kindergarten students. This will give students and families the opportunity to tour the buildings, find classrooms, and have any questions answered.

Students with Special Needs Students who receive Special Education services during the regular school year may not need them during the summer. Please contact the Student Services office at 822-6020 if you have questions about your student’s needs.
