Jan 2018 UI GreenMetric World University Rankings

UI GreenMetric World University Rankings is an initiative of Universitas which is launched in 2010. The aim of this ranking is to provide the result of online survey regarding the current condition and policies related to Green Campus and Sustainability in the Universities all over the world. It is expected that by drawing the attention of university leaders and stake holders, more attention will be given to combating global climate change, energy and water conservation, waste recycling, and green transportation. Such activities will require change of behavior and providing more attention to sustainability of the environment, as well as economic and social problems related to the sustainability. UI GreenMetric collects data questionnaires submitted from universities worldwide and process them systematically to reflect the efforts being made by the institutions to implement environmentally friendly and sustainable policies and programs. Universities will be ranked according to this score. The rankings will be useful to university leaders in their efforts to put in place eco-friendly policies and manage behavioral change among the academic community at their respective institutions.

Conducted since 2010, the ranking has ranked 618 universities from 76 countries around the world so far. It has seen a dramatic increase from 95 universities in 2010 to 618 universities in 2017. The increasing number shows that UI GreenMetric World University Rankings has been acknowledged as the first and only world university rankings on sustainability. In 2017 UI GreenMetric has a wide impact in promoting sustainability practices to universities, reaching up to 618 universities from 76 countries involving 1.697.280 faculty members, 21.526.407 students and more than US$ 9.920.012.140,27 total research fund on environment and sustainability with participating institutions located on the dynamic, and diverse Asia, Europe, Africa, , America and Oceania. The creation of a strategic network that includes universities around the world will take this initiative one step ahead.

UI GreenMetric have been presented in IREG (International Ranking Experts Group) and ISCN (International Sustainable Campus Network) forums in Doha and Vancouver. On June, August, September, and October 2017, nine UI GreenMetric technical workshops have been conducted to encourage full participations of Kazakhstan, Colombia, Brazil, Indonesia, Taiwan, , Nordic, , and Russian Universities. These workshops are organized in collaboration between UI GreenMetric Team and Host Universities, i.e. Kazakh National Agrarian University, El Bosque University, University of Sao Paulo, , Green university union of Taiwan, University of Bologna, Aalborg University, Sustainable University Network of Thailand, and RUDN university, in order to promote UI GreenMetric participations and providing platforms for universities to share their experiences in creating green and sustainable campuses.
