Text: Heidi Kalmari / Matkailulehti Mondo – Mondo Helsinki Travel Guide Helsinki for Families Options for Accommodation Sokos Hotel Vaakuna - Located in the centre of everything. The present ambience of the hotel, completed in 1952, is a splendid show of Finnish design traditions. The hotel is protected by the National Board of An- tiquities. HEINÄVEDEN GRAFIITTIKAIVOKSEN VAIKUTUKSISTA 31.8.2018 PRO HEINÄVESI 1 LYHYESTI Grafiittikaivoshanke vaarantaisi ympäristön ja arvokkaan vesistöalueen. Vesien ja ympäristön saastumisen lisäksi kaivos haittaisi merkittävästi Heinäveden kunnan olemassa olevia sekä potentiaalisia elinkeinoja. Kaivos sijoittuisi alueelle, jossa on asumiskeskittymiä (Karvio ja Varistaipale), satoja vakituisia asuinrakennuksia ja vapaa-ajan asuntoja, Lintulan luostari ja Kermajärven laajat erinomaisessa kunnossa olevat luonnonsuojelualueet, jot- ka kuuluvat Natura 2000-ohjelmaan. Alueella elää EU-direktiivien suojaamia lajeja sekä sijaitsee valtakunnallisesti tärkeä ja alueen imagolle merkittävä Hei- näveden reitti. Kiinteistön omistajille aiheutuisi kaivoksesta jopa kymmenien miljoonien eurojen taloudelliset vahingot. Kermajärvi on myös tärkein puhtaan veden syöttäjä Saimaaseen. Toiminnanharjoittaja on kokematon varsinaisessa kaivostoiminnassa, sillä yhtiö harjoittaa ainoastaan riskirahoituspohjaista malminetsintää. Heinäveden grafiittiesiintymä sisältää merkittävästi ongelmallista sulfidirikkiä (4,5 - 5,2%). Malminetsintäalueen reunalta on Kermäjärveen, Suvasveteen ja Varisveteen alle 400m. Lyhytaikaisen (5-15 v.) kaivostoiminnan päätyttyä kaivannaisjätteet jäävät kai- vosalueelle. Ne saastuttaisivat ympäristöään satojen, jopa tuhansien vuosien ajan. Tällöin luontoon ja puhtaisiin vesistöihin perustuvat elinkeinot tulisivat alueella käytännössä pysyvästi mahdottomaksi. 2 KAIVOSHANKE LAAJENTUISI ERITTÄIN SUUREKSI Kaivoshanke voi laajentua Heinäveden lisäksi

The Baltic Sea is a semi-enclosed shelf sea whose central deep basins have been highly prone to deoxygenation during its Holocene history, as shown previously by numerous paleoenvironmental studies.

  • KRUUNUSILLAT International Design Competition a Brief Outline of the Competition 20.2.2013 Kruunusillat
KRUUNUSILLAT INTERNATIONAL DESIGN COMPETITION A BRIEF OUTLINE OF THE COMPETITION 20.2.2013 KRUUNUSILLAT • Kruunusillat is a traffic connection currently being designed for linking maritime Kruunuhaka and the future island district of Kruunuvuorenranta. • The competition area is situated between Kalasatama and Kruunuvuorenranta. • Kruunusillat is meant for trams, cyclists and pedestrians. • The bridge connection would significantly shorten the distance between Helsinki city centre and Kruunuvuorenranta. • The competition will be held to ascertain what kinds of options exist. • As a result of the competition, information will be obtained for assessing the traffic connection’s environmental impact. • The competition is international because we want the world’s top experts for this challenging task. • The connection will be situated in the middle of a national landscape. The bridge connection must be of high aesthetic quality and should be appropriate for the landscape and natural environment. • The design has to be safe in all weather conditions and it must enable a free, unobstructed flow of traffic. The City of Helsinki wants to favour sustainable forms of traffic, such as rail transport, and improve the standard of service of public transport. The bridge connection proposal meets this requirement. The bridge connection would also enhance provisions for pedestrian traffic and cycling. 2 KRUUNUSILLAT International design competition The City of Helsinki will hold an international design competition for Kruunusillat. The aim is to attract the world’s best bridge experts here to design the new tram, cycle and pedestrian connection between centrally located Kalasatama and Laajasalo’s Kruunuvuorenranta. The bridge connection would be made up of at least two bridges, the longest of which could be, at nearly 1.2 kilometres, the longest in Finland.

But can you travel so that your trip results in pleasure and recreation? In most cases when travelling on business and for similar reasons, wc cannot help sacrificing comfort to speed, but when setting out on a recreation trip duringour vacation wc have a chance to plan our tour and our life entirely with a view to comfort, and to see that wc really can enjoy our holiday. Is there any sense in starting out on a holiday tour to sit day after day in a stifling, close and dusty railway compartment, or to sweat in a crowded bus speeding along a dusty road? No, that is not travelling, that is not the right way to tour! FTFravél by boat! The most ideal recreation trip is a journey •*• över lakes.

This data originated from subfossil and modern pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) mate- rials comprising a continuous dendroclimatic record over the past millennium. Calibrating and verify- ing the MXD chronologies against the instrumental temperature data showed a promising opportunity to reconstruct warm-season (May through September) temperature variability. A new palaeotempera- ture record correlated statistically significantly with the long instrumental temperature records in the region and adjacent areas since the 1740s. Comparisons with tree-ring based (MXD and tree-ring width) reconstructions from northern Fennoscandia and northern Finland exhibited consistent summer temperature variations through the Medieval Climate Anomaly, Little Ice Age, and the 20th century warmth. A culmination of the LIA cooling during the early 18th century appeared consistently with the Maunder Minimum, when the solar activity was drastically reduced.
